I have had mine now for 46 years! Still use her and she's pristine! My grandpa bought it for me in 1976. I still have the user manual 🥰

I had the bb gun when I was 10 in 1975 I got it for Christmas. Use to shoot army men I set up on firewood. Then the next year I got the daisy six shooter it looks like a colt gun fighter gun. Those were the days!

I've had over 160 of these 1894's and have rebuilt about 120 of them and they will not hold up to a heavy spring. The barrel bushing that is spot welded inside the barrel will break loose eventually and the feed block to drive forward and destroy the barrel. The abutment seal will stick to the plunger seal and pull loose from the two dimples that hold it in place. Usually, you will find the spring collapsed after a period of time. The normal length should be 7 1/4 inches long and I have found a lot of them about 6 3/4 inches to 7 inches. To improve the velocity the drilled out oversize air tube will help. The air chamber in the 1894 is tapered and the plunger seal sits at the bottom of the chamber and will take a set at the compressed position. The older original seals get hard and will not compress air when this happens, even oiling will not help. I have measured a lot of used seals and they all have the same dimension as the abutment seal because of the tapered air chamber and sitting at the bottom when fired. A good villosity for the 1894 is about 250 to 280fps. The oversized ID of the air tube might increase that some.

I still have mine from the early 70's with the original box it came in. Still works great. My dad bought it for me when I was a kid. I still have a box of Daisy BB's from the same time.

Hello Nibbs I bought one of these with "my own" $$ @ the feed store in the late 1960's !! Mine is long gone. Much more realistic then the red ryders! Memories!!! Thanks man!!

Thanks for posting Walnut and Steel. Great job in getting this gun to work . I remember my model 1894 being pretty powerful. Powerful enough to penetrate an old school soda can. Those cans were thicker than today's soda cans. Great memories.

I had one of these..birthday present for my 12th birthday (1965). Learned safe firearms handling and how to shoot with it. Many pleasant hours shooting it on my indoor range and out in the field with it. My favorite BB gun of all time from ten feet away it was a dead ringer for the Winchester Model 1894 rifle it was patterned after. Two nice features it had was forced-fed BB's into the chamber..no 'shaking around' to chamber a BB like other Daisy models. Also the hammer had to be cocked to fire it..a good safety feature. As I recall mine seemed to have a lot of 'zip'..in later years I believe Daisy reduced the muzzle velocity a bit in their 'youth model' air guns.

I got one of these in the 1960s for Christmas. The first ones they made had power. They hit harder than red Ryder's do. Easily penetrated the old soda cans and even some tin cans at close range. I had to send mine in under warranty and they sent me a later model in the early 70s. It didn't have much power. Probably like the one you're using here. 180 sounds low even for the later models. Hope it improves. Fun guns anyhow. Mine was ridiculously accurate.

The spring in his is probably just worn out. He did say it's from the '70's so it's probably been shot tens of thousands of times, who knows. My old Daisy BB gun from '75 had the same problem after many years of using it, the spring just got weak.

This will blow everone's mind..... 1974 we moved from Ohio to Florida. My parents divorced. My mom threw away my Daisy 179 pistol, Daisy 96 and my Daisy 21 bb shotgun! I thought they were just missplaced. After every box was opened including ones that were headed for the attic. My mom never admitted to it until after I graduated college. Years afterward I graduated. Along with some of my other toys. She did that to my younger brothers bb guns and toys too. Until she told me I thought someone got in our U-haul truck and stole them! What a terrible thing to do to a kid!

They were fun shooters. You hit on the two things to get use to. Cocking the hammer each time & holding it straight down to load & sometimes have to give it a little shake for BBs to roll in place. Hope you get this one. Maybe Hahn vs Daisy time? Thanks 👍

Went through a phase in the 80s of buying the spittin image range from Manchester Airguns in Failsworth which included this rifle, the revolver, and a pump action shotgun (sold the first two to buy an HW45.....took the shotgun back when the barrel liner flew out and embedded itself in the drywall) 🔫👍😸

Oh my goodness, I had one as a boy growing up in Minnesota. We had a small pond in back of our house and had many birds that would land on the cattails on the far side of the pond. I didn't like killing the birds but couldn't resist the challenge of dusting their tail feathers to test my marksmanship. I learned the hard way that sometimes when you think you're out of BBs there is a "straggler" that will surprise you like it did me when I though my empty rifle found that last BB into a basement window. Good times overall

Me too! I must have been 13 or 14 when I owned this 1970 or 1971. Great gun I remember it being pretty powerful. The Daisy model 25 being more powerful. My cousin had the model 25 and I had the 1894. I remember there was a Special Edition which came with Brass colored receiver and lever. Beautiful gun but had to settle for the plain model. Like you...this brings wonderful memories.

The power plant is very similar to the red ryder style plungers. The plunger is smaller and is specific to this gun. If you search for daisy 1894 parts I am sure you will find the seal set

My brother and I each got this model for Christmas in 1973. Ours weren't very powerful. You could watch the bb coming out of the barrel when you shot them. I came darn close to shooting my brothers eye out with mine though. He was behind a wood pyle and I was behind a large tree. We were shooting at each other. He left out a cry and threw his gun in the air. I ran over to him and he was holding his one eye. I thought OH MY GOD, I SHOT MY BROTHER"S EYE OUT!!!! I finally told him to let me look at it. The bb hit his face about a 1/4 inch from his eye. We never shot at each other after that and he never told my mother either. The place where the bb's go in broke on mine and it quit working. I don't remember what happened to it.

Hi Nibs, I've inherited one of these from my bro in law. The stock had broken off and I managed to find a replacement but it shoots just the same as yours did, bbs more or less dribbling out of the barrel for maybe 6 feet. Would you be interested in repairing it ? My mechanical skills are very limited so unfortunately, a DIY fix is not an option. and I'm more than willing to pay for services rendered I live in Upstate NY so getting it to you is not a problem. No doubt you're very busy and have a long waiting list, that's not a problem either as all it's done is sit in the closet for the past 5 years or so.

I had one of these way, way back. Loads of fun, lotta good memories. Wish I still had it, but it along with several others disappeared in the course of several moves in the early 80’s (mega-bummer) Been a while, but seems like mine had a good bit more “juice” than that… weak spring perhaps ???
