I was following your videos and copying your technique! it was so much easier to solve a squeaky sound I had inside the motor! it is absolutely gone! the only think I notice is that it seems a bit heavier when reeling! I believe it just a matter of patience and it becomes normal again! thank you very much for such an instructive video!!!

I was servicing my BG6500 a couple weeks ago and the main shaft was bent. So, I ordered a new main shaft from Daiwa US in California. Shaft came in like 4 days, awesome. I go to put the pinion gear on the shaft and it doesn't want to go. At first I thought I put the old shaft back in but then I saw that it was the new one. I took it out and the pinion just wouldn't go down all the way. Brand new, I was stumped. Well, it turns out there was a little nick in the main shaft and a tiny little burr because of it. I really didn't feel like doing the right thing and returning it. So I just took some 600 grit sandpaper and removed the little burr sticking up. Went 800, 1000, 1500, 2000 grit and then buffed it on a wheel. Works perfectly now but man I was stumped. I actually could only feel it if I used my finger nail. I guess the tolerances were pretty tight for it to matter but it did.

Thanks for the input, Jeff! Yes, I find it happens more around where they cut the section to support the click gear, but it IS tricky sometimes in that it can be difficult to see or even feel..... only when try to put the pinion gear on is there a clue that something's off.

Great tutorial!! My reel still feels sticky. Like it’s grinding. Especially at the point where the shaft changes direction from going to down. Any ideas?
@TSGReelService3 ай бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video. I'm assuming you decided to service your reel because you were having this issue prior to the service. Sounds like it may be a bent main shaft, but it could also be pinion stack bearings and/or possibly even abnormal wear on your drive gear. Check those things. The higher the spool is, the more load it puts on the shaft, bearings, gears, etc. Hope that helps.

Whats your opinion on the best reel and the worse reel from a reel service point of view?
@TSGReelService Жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video. Thanks Penn Spinfshers/Battles, etc are quite easy to service if there are no seized parts. A more difficult reel would be something like a Stella or the Penn International 80S or 80SW, where you may need several attempts at fine tuning the two-speed..... which can take hours.

Solid reels just don't keep saltwater out as well as the more expensive options. If you're willing to really focus on maintaining it, these reels are great. Lots of big fish caught on these reels here in Florida. Also more than a few with very noisy bearings and the saltwater finds it's way in!

@@TSGReelService it’s apparent after painfully watching some of your videos you have no clue on how to repair and service any type of fishing reel. Before I retired completely I was doing over 1000 reels a year. I was the number one parts purchaser of Penn parts two years in a row. Hell you don’t even know the correct name of the parts. Get a Starrett SS scratch all. It’s used many times to move little things around. You need a proper set of ground flat screwdrivers. Wiha makes the best. You need a set if nut drivers for handle and rotor nuts. No Pliers no Crescent wrench You need a set of bearing pullers. Reelspeed makes the best. They are made to pull bearings out of a blind hole. Get rid of that crappy Penn grease. Use Yamaha Marine grease on conventional and some spinning reels. When you do trolling reels you must service the bearings. They have to be opened cleaned and checked. If you feel anything when turning they are no good. Spool bearings get oiled drive bearings get marine grease.

Thanks for checking out the video. Yes, it'll affect the reel. That part keep the bearing in place.... without it, your reel may feel rough or "sticky". It's called the bearing retainer.... G52-5101 for the 4000 size.... H01-7201 for larger sizes. See my community page for parts assistance: www.youtube.com/@TSGReelService/community Spread the word about the channel.
