The Isle of Cumbrae Pipe Band playing "Scotland The Brave" as they march out of Braemar from the Mews after the 2018 Braemar Gathering weekend. They finish with some verses of "The Gambler" as they reach Castleton Hall.
The band was formed in 1999 by Andy Bryan and some of the committee members from the Millport Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS) The first few members came from Millport, Largs, Fairlie and other areas of North Ayrshire. They now have about 60 members, with 18 young players and they wear their own Isle of Cumbrae tartan.

I'm Canadian, Loud & Proud... but I have the Pipes in my SOUL... Mom said we had some Scottish in there somewhere, even though we mostly identified as French-Canadian (Meservia?). All I know for sure is that my favorite part of any parade is the Piping Bands. When I hear the Pipes, I feel like, some how, something is calling me home. If I read this, I'd be pretty skeptical. But it's true. The Pipes bring me to tears, even as a kid they did. Shivers, and chills. I'm 49 now. In the early 90's I was at Banff National Park. We were taking a rest by having a picnic lunch in a green space(park) in town. Turns out there was a lone Piper. There was no one else around, so we sat almost at his feet. I think there was 8-12 of us? It was long ago! lol Anyways, our picnic lunch lasted 4+ hours, as this young guy(16-20?) PLAYED HIS HEART OUT!!! Not a pro, but MAN, on that day, he was AWESOME!!! I'm not a tipper, or one to give out 'spare change'. Buy on that day, we MADE him take the money. Literally. He made out quite well I think. $120-ish, if my memory serves correctly. Keep in mind, there were 3 kids under 8 yrs. But, to be fair, my Son, the youngest of all, has always said since he could talk, that the Pipes do to him what they do to me! It was an AWESOME DAY! Great memories... sigh... :-) Thanks for listening Folks. Peace! from Alberta, Canada.

@travaillerauetrangerie9617
@travaillerauetrangerie9617 5 жыл бұрын
@Darius Kang umm. Just read your comment. First of all i'd like to thank for your explanation about the "white culture's xenophobic points"(even though i still can't agree with this.) I understand and admit that every country is somewhat xenophobic and racist. But the example you've given me, "there are only whites in that marching band" cannot be the reason of explaining "The Xenophobic whites' culture". There are no evidences that these marching band denied the africans and musilms, and other races. Do you have any case that these whites' cultural groups rejected other races? Or is there any rules about "the racial purity" in traditional culture groups? If so, this can be a xenophobic problems. But as i know, i haven't ever heard about the rules that reject other races in "traditional culture groups". And the second example you've given me - the Rotherham rages, i do not think this is xenophobic action. Think about this. The muslims who lived in rotherham, they are living in england so they should obey the english rules. I believe that you've heard about this quote - "when in rome, do the romans do". Muslims can assert the underage girl grooming as their 'culture', but in western society, this is a crime. Surely it is. I read some news about the 'rotherham rage', and they explained like this - " The first group conviction took place in 2010, when five British-Pakistani men were convicted of sexual offences against girls aged 12-16." This is evidently a crime that cannot be understand by the sights of englishmen and womens. This rotherham rage may be started by the anxiety of lots of adults who worries that their underaged kids in unwanted marriage or pregnant. These results can be treated as a very big social problems in england. Culture is not the chiffon cake. We don't need to take all of them. All cultures are different. Some parts can be admitted, but the others can be denied by the adoptor's point of view and the cultural contexts. Cultural diversity? Sure, it's a great and agreeable title. Though, if somebody impose me to admit all the different culture in the name of 'diversty', even though that difference is recognized as a crime in my country, i'll definitely say no to them. If the foreigners still want to keep their culture, even if it's a crime of problematic stuffs in our country, the best way they could do is going back to their hometown. As you're earning money and living in this country, you first should respect their culture and their point of view. Just blaming natives as the 'xenophobic' and 'racist' seems like a crying baby who wants more ice cream... lol.

Hark when the night is falling Hear! hear the pipes are calling, Loudly and proudly calling, Down through the glen. There where the hills are sleeping, Now feel the blood a-leaping, High as the spirits Of the old Highland men. Towering in gallant fame, Scotland my mountain hame, High may your proud standards, Gloriously wave, Land of my high endeavour, Land of the shining rivers, Land of my heart for ever, Scotland the brave. High in the misty Highlands, Out by the purple islands, Brave are the hearts that beat Beneath Scottish skies. Wild are the winds to meet you, Staunch are the friends that greet you, Kind as the love that shines From fair maidens' eyes. Far off in sunlit places, Sad are the Scottish faces, Yearning to feel the kiss Of sweet Scottish rain. Where tropic skies are beaming, Love sets the heart a-dreaming, Longing and dreaming for the homeland again

Born and raised in Australia but I have half Irish, half Scottish highland blood flowing in my veins. This tune stirs me to the very core of my soul. I always feel a pang of sadness in my heart that so many Irish and Scotts have been displaced from our ancestral home over the centuries. It's my dream that one day I can go back, stand and look upon the lands that my ancestors lived, fought and died for.
