It was the same thing with my Dad , after Jock died , he never watched Dallas again . I still watched it most of the time , with the exception of the dream season . I also watched most of the last few years of the show even though a lot of the cast members starting leaving and some of the story lines were not that great . Even though those last seasons weren't as good as the first half of the series , they were still much better than that TNT reboot series which to me was another example of rebooting a successful franchise from the past and ruining it .

I Love both the Waltons and Dallas. Such different shows; but both had Great writers and Oscar winning actors, right on the television screen. Television back then was such a pleasure. I also liked Family, Rich Man, Poor Man and St. Elsewhere. Thank goodness for Retro Channels. I hardly ever watch the newer programs. Wonderful programs!

@derekmathews18188 жыл бұрын
+Astraldragon1, I know that's right. Cliff Barnes was well Cliff Barnes. His obsession in life was beating the Ewings PERIOD. I have not seen a lot of the original series, but Pam was delusional. She knows his obsession is beating the Ewings, and she refuses to believe that her brother can do no wrong. WOW! Need to check yourself Pam.
@Astraldragon18 жыл бұрын
Cliff's obsession to beat the Ewing steams from what Digger told him. Jock cheated him out his share of Ewing Oil when Jock His brother Jason and Digger were partners and when they hit it big.. they were to share the profits evenly.. the unfortunate thing was both Jason and Digger had Drinking problems among other issues and Jock was afraid they would end lose it all... so Jock had it agranged to be in Charge and all paperwork under his name... I'm guessing it's power of attorney . and they would still share it equally ... yet Jason and Digger took it the wrong way and felt Jock cheated them out of what was rightfully their to share.
@derekmathews18188 жыл бұрын
The Barnes have been believing that crap for YEARS! Jock never screwed Digger out of well ANYTHING. Really in reality, if that's the way it went down, then Jock had a right to protect their investment, and in his name, under that would be correct, called Power of attorney. That is EXACTLY RIGHT! Then when Jason and Digger took it the wrong way. See, that's what happens when you make assumptions about situations, and people, you get the wrong idea. If they would have asked questions to Jock, they would have understood everything a lot more. But they didn't, and they believe that lie that Cliff told him.

Harsh but True. Pam allways thought Cliff was perfect and would never do anything to hurt her. yet he has proven he can be just as bad as JR when need be.

Cliff Barnes can be just as nasty as JR. I remember there was one story arc in Dallas, where Cliff blackmail's JR's secretary Sly---basically forcing her to become a "mole" inside of Ewing Oil, feeding confidential information to Cliff.

Not only that, in one episode Cliff is shown to be a real misogynist. He refused Jamie's Ewing help, telling her she has no business in oil and scuffed Pamela's suggestions on the same thing, while J.R congratulates Sue Ellen's scheming and intelligence in sending away one of his lovers. J.R. always loved powerful women while Cliff was a misogynistic ignorant.

To me, bypassing the movies was a mistake. This way, Ewing oil's fate is not known, since Cliff was in charge at the end of the series. The weststar oil storyline is also shunned. The reason for Sue Ellen's and John Ross' return to dallas is also unknown. It would have been much better if J.R's depression was explained by losing WestStar oil and dragging Ewing Oil with it, due to the shortage of oil resources and a financial implication in the Iraqi invasion...
