Dude I appreciate you. I just got done hitting my CV axle with a hammer and bent 3 threads and I knew better. Looking at it I almost called a wrecker to come get it and junk it and be done with mechanics all together. We all live and learn but thank God for youtube

@rubenmartinez1140did the file work? Just did this shit myself. Knew better just didn’t have anything better to get the axle removed. Nut wasn’t on fully flush an I wasn’t fully paying attention, gave her to much sauce an now I can’t even get the damn thing to come back off 🤣

Like almost everyone here, I landed here because I used a hammer to reinstall the axle on my yamaha rhino (use a rubber mallet kids). This video saved me as no local store had any rethread kits in stock. HUGE thanks! Liked and subscribed.

Thank you sir!!! Thought I had totally boned up and would have to get a die and attempt to repair the threads which meant ordering the die and waiting to finish the repair. After watching your video I went right outside, sanded it down and was able to complete the installation. You da man!

Well, you saved another life,...put in brand new cv axles last weekend, seen the state of the ball joints,...expected an easy Job to throw the ball joints on,...didn't catch that the cv axles are in the way of the castle nuts,...open end wrench not strong enough,....exhausted all other options (that this non mechanic has), decided I must remove the axles.....my fault for doing a lousy axle nut staking,...was woried I would mess up the threads as the jagged metal from the nut passed over....and I probably made it worse using an impact. Second side went way worse than I expected,....was about to order a new cv axle...then I found your video....where do I mail the beer?

I did this after hitting the top of the spindle with a hammer installing a CV Gaitor, I couldn’t get a start on it. So I searched for how-to videos and stumbled across this one, so I did it with a grinding stone on my die grinder just enough to run a thread chaser up it to get a thread started 👌🏻 Thanks for the tip mate 👍🏻 Regards from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

this video saved my life... err..project. I messed up a tie rod end/ball joint stud by being a meat head. Inspired by your video, I used an angle grinder to smooth out the section I messed up. It worked after some fine tuning! Thank you :-)

Hi Calvin Had same problem but didn't have sand grinder so used a file, but taking too long so I just used angle grinder and cut end off, worked a treat but your method gave me the idea and it is a brilliant idea you have.

Just did this.. not quite to the same extent.. but I ground off the last 2 threads (I have a half dozen past the nut ) and then chamfered just a hair to break the edge (only really hitting the first thread)... I'm glad I didn't have to replace.. I also had f'd up threads inside my axle nut so I did have to buy a new one of those.. but 44 dollars is a cheap fix. Good on ya for making the video so others know about it.

that was excellent bro!!!!!!you have master this because one can almost never find the right die to fix the threads and when ya do it is very costly as it is a large diameter,metric threads, and fine threads as well. So one usually resorts to just buying a new axle and if your doing it for a living the customer gets really pissed and complains until you give in and pay half or more for a new axle. BUT BRAVO MAN AND IM GOING TO TRY THE BELY SANDER TECHNIQUE AS TRYING A ANGLE GRINDER HAS RARELY WORKED FOR ME.

Thank you. I only had a file available and the axle was off the car. I filed and filed until the die finally gained purchase. Then a vice grip 'round the spindle to fix the axle and a channel lock to work the die to and fro. By George! Thank you. Thank you. Best

Wow this really saved the day!! Thank you so much. Gotta take your time and do precise grinding. I used an angle grinder with grinding wheel. I found the first undamaged thread and grinding up to it making sure to follow the thread until it's all clean. Nut screwed right on after playing with the angle until the threads caught.

@@CalvinThomas05 hi Calvin received my 20mm sander yesterday but does not work right theres no power and sometimes have to push on the belt to get it to spin I have a fairly large compressor aswell no sure if I have a dodgy one when it's running it still blows air from the exhaust outlet stripped it and there is plastic wedges inside which look like they slide up and down but mine a really tight fit so not sure if this is the problem or not enough air from compressor??
@CalvinThomas05
@CalvinThomas05 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary. It sounds like you're compressor might be to small but you should get it to run even for a few seconds on small compressors and then wait for the air to build back up and then go again. Yes the plastic vanes in the air rotor should move freely. Tip some oil on them. Hope this bit of info helps. Cheers Calvin

My motorcycle riding buddy helped me with the front wheel bearing on a Honda CR-V. The new bearing was driven in with a puller using an impact wrench. That went OK. He next installed the wheel hub using the impact wrench. That went OK. When he tried to install the axle, it only went in part way so he put on the axle nut and used the impact wrench. That did not go well. The axle went in about half way then would budge. After removing the wheel nut, the threads on the axle were damaged. The threads now need to be restored and a new wheel nut will be required. Also, the wheel hub is stuck i.e. it will not rotate. It appears that the bearing is damaged and needs to be replaced. Good old Murphy has struck again. Impact wrenches are dangerous when used for installing things. They are only great for removals. I just placed an order on Amazon for a axle re-threader kit and it's going to be delivered this week. I'll buy a new wheel nut.

If you haven't any way to remove material from the end of the shaft you could try and re-shape the damaged thread with a needle file

Can u cut the end off?
@AlanDike
@AlanDike 4 жыл бұрын
Thats what he basically did.. My jeep axles extend about 6-10 threads past the end of the nut when tightened down.. so I did cut the last 2-3 threads off.. but be careful.. you generate a lot of heat and you dont want to mess with any heat treat by over heating the part when working. Work in short bursts and keep cutting oil on it if you're using power tools.
