I never understood the deeper meaning but last night as i was falling asleep I chose to meditate in that place between sleep and wakefulness and I entered that place where thoughts fell away. This song just gives me a feeling that not much else in the world can give... The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran is my favorite book for this reason/feeling. It gives me a synthesis of fulfilment and recognition. I feel seen and understood by the poetry, like all the confusions and hypnosis of the world suddenly make complete sense, if only for a moment while listening to this song or reading the words of Gibran. The beauty of the instrumentation transports me to a different place, a place of peace, a place of welcoming and belonging. No matter how far I may be physically or emotionally from that place, in my daily life, the poetry of Gibran and this song are a reliable source of comfort and sunlight. The only other book that I could even think of that would give me similar feelings to this song and the movie is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I can’t recommend that book enough

The ability of Damien rice to move in so many directions with his music while remaining true to his art/craft is what I seek yet often fail to find in other musicians today. His work resonates on a human level with the thoughts, feelings, shards of thoughts, and glimpses of reality I have experienced on the paths I have tread in my own life. Each time he releases something new, for me, it's like revisiting that thrilling feeling I experienced as a little girl opening new presents on Christmas day. His music however is better than those long-forgotten gifts because I remember the songs, I love them dearly, and they are always just a 'click play' away to recapture, experience, and enjoy anew.
