A couple of things I have learned from kiting in New England winters. Warm water in booties and gloves before you go out, vaseline on face, 7mm mittens, 8mm boots, 6/5 mm wetsuit with a windbreaker on top and a van with to get changed in.

great topic - we're out riding in Northern Michigan in similar conditions. A few things I'd add: -riding with 8mm wetsuit has less mobility, but I think it's safer because it still insulates in the event of a tear or hole. -forearm pump is a major problem when wearing thick gloves, even with a harness it can be unbearable. Thin handles help. -the extra gear adds quite a bit of weight, expect it will be harder to get on foil.

Thanks Jonathan, maybe even harsher conditions were you are. I know what you mean about the forearm cramp is what I get especially with new gloves seems they need to break in, I really like my 2mm glacier gloves with the fleece inside and I know my hands will be colder but my forearms won't get fatigued. I know the wetsuits have improved over the years and need to check it out, Thanks again

Another great video, thanks for the tips and advice. I have tried the Dry suit over the winter but prefer the wetsuit. I think if the dry suit gets ripped you have very limited time to get out the situation, but the wetsuit you might have longer. You can put Velcro straps round the wrists and ankles to help prevent water entering and a balaclava works great. Sometimes when you have to break the iced-up water at the edge when entering the water, you risk cutting your suit. Your right about concentration on going in straight lines, without trying any new turns or tricks, you don't want to fall in too much, LOL. Many Thanks

Awesome video guys! It doesn't get that cold where we are in South West UK but very useful tips and ideas still learned. Quick question, what mics did you use when winging? Super crisp sound in those gnarly conditions! Great video 🤙

That's Cold!! I was out in some 38*F water yesterday but the air temp was 58*F. I took my hood off at the end and jumped back in the water to see if I could have made it without the hood and wow...ice cream headache instantly! This was the coldest water I've intentionally jumped into. After an hour of play, I was surprisingly still good with a 5mil suit and boots. As always, awesome video.

They make dry suits with attached "dry" socks. There is no reason to have wet cold feet. I wear the same socks before, during and after my session... never wet, (you do need to have a slightly bigger sized wet-suit bootie or shoe to allow for socks/ layering) Be aware that drysuits do not float you like a wet-suit does, with extreme weather conditions a life jacket might be appropriate.

That's great about the dry socks attached to the dry suit, the 8 and 7 mm booties work good for me feet are comfortable and with the dry suit I always wear a PFD lifejacket, thanks for the advice.
