Agree Dan was great and more and is more forgotten as the years go by. Don’t think he’ll get into the RRHOF anytime soon bc he is/was considered a 70s/80s pop artist, soft rock at the most. Even though on some songs he rocked pretty hard. Sadly excellent pop artists like Dan, Bread, America, Seals and Crofts, the Carpenters, Loggins & Messina, Eric Carmen and many, many others will probably never get into the RRHOF …and there is no Pop hall of fame.

Mike Botts, my friend, RIP, so much Awesomeness on the drums in all of these songs, but especially this one, Mike is doing things no other drummer can or attempts, "Ghost notes" on the snare, off time, always staying away from "Getting in the Way" of vocals , or important parts.. This is why Mike (Michael Botts) Was first call drummer, favorite drummer of any bassist, Leland Sklar, Bob Glaub, and others. He makes the difficult looks simple, it is not, he is always thinking of the song when he plays, not just "pounding the skins".... Just had to say that , miss him and Dan, Thank you for all that you gave us through the years and especially this legendary live performance here RIP, Still listening "Loud" 2024 !!

This song is so haunting to me. When it first came out, I used to sing the refrain rather joyfully. But years later, upon hearing it in 2022, I never realized how prophetic it would be. The lines, "I'm always somewhere that I never belong/ Ooh Ooh, I'm missing you" really hit me when I heard this song today. It's strange, but the first girl I really fell in love with was really so deep an experience for me, but I blew it big time with her. In 1982, the realization hit home to me just how much I blew it while as a sophomore in high school, the same time this song came out. Still, I sung the song as I stated above as if it was a fun song to sing. But despite me growing much as a person and having other relationships over the past four decades, those relationships have all been dead ends, so it's like I'm always somewhere I never belong as Dan sung about in this song. On one level, it seems I'm being punished for blowing it with a girl I fell so so so much in love with at the wrong time because I couldn't handle it. It's been one dead end after another, so yes, I guess I miss her even though I know she apparently moved on with her life just like I tried to, but have yet to feel really redeemed after all this time. Even more interesting are the lyrics in the song "Your love is the promise that guides me/All of the days of my life."
@goldenhealer5645 Жыл бұрын
I did the same thing... exactly. I threw away the relationship thinking there would always be someone better. And I think I did that because , as you stated, I couldn't handle it. She was much smarter than me. I was wrong and kept going from girl to girl. And now at 73 I have nothing. Oh I have material things, lots of them but not the one thing I came down to this Earth for... I am writing this to let you know you are not alone..

He was so baddass. I was first introduced to this beautiful man in 1978 when I had nothing. I was crashing at a friends house after an evening of pot and beer. And, I heard the song “To The Morning”. Oh my God it was so beautiful and it captured the place where I was. And then I saw how beautiful he was. I fell in love with his spirit. Several beautiful pieces of music later, l learned he died. I still mourn for him. He was so beautiful and sensitive. The tune he recorded called “ lm missing you” was so baddass t me because he was a such a softy. I wanted to see his masculine side much because he was so good looking. I got it finally. My heart breaks for his loved ones who personally witnessed his artistic and physical beauty.

I pray that Jean is in a good place tonight/tomorrow. Tomorrow Dec 16 2018 marks the 11 anniversary of Dan's Passing. TG we have yt which gives us performances like this which shows us and the world that Dan was much more than a studio recording genius. He could lay it on the line and perform with so much emotion and skill. I think rare qualities in Today's performance. Did I just hear Dan Sample Layla in this performance. Is anything new really? For Fans and kindred spirits Dan ws much more than a recording star. His mastery of the english language maybe not unique but always seemed to push a button in me that had laid dormant for years. One song in particular always spoke to me like none other. "Make Love Stay". Who has been honest with themselves and not have asked that question.. Especially when that "love" or a "love" has slipped through your hands. I long for that commitment to love yet " the drama" scares me too.
