I love how you can sense the barely contained anger in Dan Heng’s voice. Not only is Taoran the major culprit behind his suffering, he is even planning to use the same method that led to his (Dan Heng’s) suffering to give himself a clean getaway. But I love even more how Dan Heng both accepts his own past and invokes his completely new life and identity to get past Taoran’s bullshit. This is not only using one loophole to counter another, but also shows how Dan Heng has reconciled the threads of his existence and turned it into his strength.

I wish this part of the quest hadn’t felt so rushed. It should have been its own story quest. They revealed that Lingsha’s master experimented on Dan Hung when he was just born, then did nothing with that info. Didn’t show us what DH thought or felt about it at all. I hope there’s more on this in future quests

My problem was less that its rushed. It just felt like one of the culprits shouldhv been someone like fiexiao, to me anyway. Shes been hunting borisen this entire time, she needs a cure for her blood moon rage and her healer suspect hooly being a part of a cure. Not only that but moze has experience of breaking out of prison which wouldve been perfect forshadowing for him helping hooly break out of prison!

I feel like this whole 2 parter patch helped to fix the 1st lackluster Luofu arc. And I liked how Linsha got to witness just how far both the Alchemy commision and the Vidyahara had fallen. Goes to show she and Bailu have a lot of work to do and how much Jing Yuan had to deal with. I figured Jing Yuan had an actual reason for exiling her Master (I thought it was gonna be something like he knew she was innocent but exile was the only way to protect them from the medicus cult) but I was surprised it was to do with Dan Heng and the Vidyahara's internal problems.

You’re missing the whole point. Dan Heng said it himself in this cutscene: he does not excuse himself from the responsibility of his past incarnation just because his memories got wiped through rebirth. But the crux of his character, as shown in his animated short, is his realization that accepting that he was Dan Feng in the past does not prevent him from assuming new identities and relationships. He just doesn’t want other people (cough cough Jingliu and Blade cough cough) using his past to hamper how he chooses to live and be in the present.
