Hey! I'm learning Lakota Sioux and feel pretty confident of at least basic conversation and expressing basic necessities such as, 'I'm hungry,' 'Are you at home right now?' and 'How you doing?' I can understand Mrs. Leader Charge adequately fine at best; especially when she says wanáškaŋškaŋyaŋpi -- "movie" and šuŋgmánitu tȟáŋka ob wachi -- "Dances with wolf(ves)" What really helps is that she speaks with good volume and with both slow and clear enunciation, three key points in speaking ANY language in the world. What a wonderful spirit she was.

RIP Michael Blake. I know we only have a short time before the Goodfellas vs. DWW debate starts again. But even if I did not agree that DWW deserved to win over Goodfellas (jury's still out on that) your story of how you went from living in your car to being a successful author/screenwriter is an inspiration to a would be writer like me. Also props to you from bringing Doris Leader Charge who played a big role in the film (translating the script, teaching the actors the Lakota language.)

Several Years later, a filmaker stole his Idea for Dances with Wolves and made his own Movie with just some minor alterations in it from the Original Dances with Wolves. That Filmmaker made one of the biggest , if not the Biggest Blockbuster Movie of all time- basically plagerizing Dances with Wolves. That Filmmaker was James Cameron and the Movie was Called Avatar. Avatar is just basically a Science Fiction Version of Dances with Wolves.

If he had gone to his grave, still dreaming and wishing that life could be different than it was, is it possible to do both to have dreams, unfulfilled and yet feel like life is enough as it is, as the Zen Masters proclaim?

Melanie Black Elk 1. Good for you? 2. Writing is about dialogue and character interactions. Dances With Wolves does have that but in reality it’s the visuals and the cinematography that told the story so I don’t see that as a good enough reason to award it Best Screenplay when Goodfellas has all that.

We keep trying to make amends for our past mistakes, slavery of the blacks and stealing land from the Indians, and these Oscars given to this film is part of that amends. Now, let's get on with life as it is today. Tearing down statues is also part of that amends. IMO it ain't right, but I guess we're cleaning up our past. But enough already. Let's move forward.
@patricew.40104 жыл бұрын
austin teutsch Black slavery is still legal and operating in Africa (the world news is your friend.) and white have basically NOTHING to do with it, and conquering land isn’t exclusive to whites only. Asians, whites, blacks and “gasp” Indians have done it as well. Will never understand why whites get so much flack for doing what others have done, who don’t get the same exposure.
@nenabunena4 жыл бұрын
Stealings people's land, killing off 99% of the population, relegating them in site condition, and apparently making 1 film that was the hatdwork of Blake and Costner to bring this to the publics attention is the US' way of making amends and reparations? Lol, so all the suffering equals 1 film that 2 Individuals made is now the amendment of the entire US nation? And people think the Japanese are villains for what they did to East Asia in ww2, lol
