My integrative health PCP and cardiologist both strongly recommend the Mediterranean diet. It’s doable for most people and includes a healthy dose of protein (mostly fish, eggs and poultry), vegetables, olive oil, fruit and limited carbs. This does not make sense to me. We have been eating plant based since my husband’s by pass surgery. We both feel better and have lost weight.
@carebear81469 ай бұрын
Just my 2 cents, plant based can work but any extreme diet long term can cause problems. Hard to make your protein goals, especially as we age. Need minimum 80 grams a day but probably more. Also too many vegetables can cause endotoxin in gut. Many do well on plant based because they are avoiding processed food. Best thing you can do is not eat vegetable oils, so avoid bad salad dressings etc. Also vegetables these days if not organic are full of glysopahte. I like to think the cow eats the grass (sometimes with chemicals) have multiple stomachs to breakdown the bad stuff and make a perfect food for us. Saturated fat is not a poison, it's a marketing campaign for canola oil. I only share to give you food for thought. Pun intended.

My friends husband ate lots of spicy foods and meats and he had a couple of heart attacks and a stroke in his 50’s. His Mayo Clinic cardiologist has put him on a vegan diet and the wife eats that too because of her high cholesterol. Fast forward a year later they both lost weight and feel great. My father had lots of heart attacks and was a cattleman farmer always eating a delicious steaks and eggs. He went on a vegetarian diet after reading a book from a doctor and lost a ton of weight and had better cognition. His wife told him he looked too thin and so he stopped. Went right back to the same place and died of lung cancer a few years later. He never smoked.

Exactly! What a lot of people refuse to acknowledge is that we are all different. Some people can make a plant-based diet work very well for them because they get enough protein and other nutrients. @@PrettyOverFifty I think they believe that eating plants is better for the environment than meat so they promote vegan eating. There’s nothing wrong with choosing how you want to eat, but telling people that meat is bad for them and going to give the cancer is very disingenuous. Humans have been eating meat for thousands of years. It’s only since the introduction of vegetable oils , high carbohydrate diet and increased sugar that cancer and diabetes have skyrocketed I think back to how our grandparents generation ate . Lots of fatty meats, liver, well cooked vegetables because they knew the vegetables except the stomach. My grandmothers generation had very little cancer, but my mothers generation had a lot of cancer so if eating a low fat diet really work, why is cancer about to overtake heart disease is the biggest killer ? we’re not getting healthy or we’re getting sicker. I was given even heavier antibiotics. The doctor advised me only to have chicken broth and jello for 7 days. That's when the light bulb went off. On your cheat days take digestive enzymes, Vitamin E and aspirin (yes natural aspirin) to off set. His health has been exceptional and he is still mildly active everyday. He has some recent memory loss, but is still coherent most of the time. My 94 year old mother had a quadruple bypass in her early 60’s, and changed her diet radically to eliminate red meat except on special occasions. She is in great health for her age. Her mind is still sharp, which is supported by a healthy diet, daily reading, as well as staying in close contact with family and friends and carrying on long conversations about complex topics. They do both take various medications to treat typical health conditions at their age, but seem happy and find enjoyment in each day. BTW, they’ve been divorced from one another for over 55 years :)

You look amazing and healthy and hopefully you'll get more and more women to follow suit. xo

It’s like you are talking about me! Donuts & hypoglycemia, getting fat as I aged, I do grass-fed protein, mostly carnivore diet, it’s been amazing for me! I’m allergic to oxylates and didn’t know what they were until a year ago… thought it was some chemical additive 🤦♀️ Removing greens from my diet stopped the bloating the diarrhea, fatigue… and I love salads, but they don’t like me 😂

Diet is everything! I worked with a nutritionist too. It’s been a year now and I know when I fall off the healthy eating wagon. The same symptoms you described. I used to cook fabulous meals and bake every weekend. No more. I read labels and eat clean food cooked simply.

I know people who follow an Ayurvedic lifestyle and have controlled their autoimmune disease. It is a very holistic practice.

I totally agree - very useful video so many people do not realize how food affects not only your weight but everything else! I’m working on changing my food in my life so that I can be healthier and stronger!!! Nothing worse than getting up in the morning and feel like you went through 8 rounds of boxing!!!! You are absolutely beautiful inside and out!❤

Hi Kimberly, I’ve been watching your videos for many years but never comment. I found this video very informative and it really does make sense. I live in Sydney, Australia, am 69 years young. I have been slowly changing my diet to eat natural foods, I skip all the sauces, dressings, sugar, etc. as much as possible and just stick to olive oil and vinegar dressings. I probably need to increase my protein. I eat a lot of fish. I loved your roasted okra recipe and enjoy it often. I think sugar is one of the biggest health hazards!!

Whatever lifestyle suits an individual's body & well being, be it plant based or carnivore, it doesn't matter as long as one is healthy. IMO

Hi Kimberly, I've just watched about 10 of your latest videos, had been a subscriber for awhile, but suddenly your videos appeared in my feed, and you are just so adorable, relatable and all of your advice so helpful and useful. I live in South Florida and dream about moving back out to Southern CA!! I'm so glad you love it in the Villages, but don't you miss CA and Lake Tahoe? I actually went from NYC, to Lake Tahoe, to San Diego, to Palm Beach......I miss all the mountains in CA all the hiking and the Pacific Ocean. Have lived in S. FL 20 yrs too long and dream about getting back out to the West Coast of the country. Loved this video, your Elf Makeup review and your Jones Road Review! I signed up for your newsletter, even though I get way too much email. Thank you for all your great tips, your enthusiasm and postivity is so appreciated 💝

What a great video!! Everything explained in a caring, easy to understand manner. Thank you, Kimberley - even if during the video I felt like you had been in my kitchen peering over my shoulder 😀

Agree with you totally....when my clean eating has been upset with a cheat day, it is HORRIBLE....not worth it anymore. I have been noticing that when some sugar is in the diet it really plays with the mouth microbome and then I have to fast for a day or two . We are human and all have a day or moth of nonsense eating, look at the Superbowl tonight and all the junk that will be consumed. It is not worth the MSG, food color and fake ingredients. Keep it simple and clean. Thanks for sharing. You look great

I am 68 and went ketovore in August of 2023. The only regret I have is not doing this years ago. If I get a craving for something not on plan I encourage you to follow Maria Emmerich, she has a recipie for any thing you are craving. Another good carnivore chef is Chris Cooking Nashville. I had no weight to loose but have treated depression and anxiety with eating this way.

Enjoy watching your video thanks. I dont eat red meat I just dont like it. Eating out for me is once in a blue moon. Otherwise, i like my own food. It doesnt matter where you eat fancy or not. Restaurants uses the cheapest olive oils. Many add sugar to their vegetables.!!! coleslaw is pure sugar Gmo still in use... additives are in everything. I like my cooking, and love leftovers. . sugar is the worse enemy... saddest me the way many little kids eat... that is a different subject. You are a pleasure to watch.

Fasting is amazing for the body! I do at least 18 hours most days of the week. I have not done a 36 hour one, but it could happen.

Thank you Kimberly❤️. Maybe you could do a video on what you eat in a day sometime if you feel up to it!! I whole heartedly agree about this! I have a husband who loves junk food and is all about eating cheaply(aka junk and quick easy ultra processed food) To be honest I refuse to eat that utter junk and have started to buy my own food seperately... Before we met I was widowed and have always eaten healthy prior ever since my 20's.. For him to expect me to change my ways when it comes to healthy eating has been need I say a bone of contention... Trying to break him of those bad habits is next to impossible.... So seperate food bills it is..👍🏻❤️ You look fantastic and Im loving your hair!!❤️

Im a believer in this, Kimberly. Stalled out on reversing T2 diabetes because i think due to hormones, but I lile hearing how you eat clean as I think the one day open might help me be more strict on yhe other days. Im going to try that. Look forward to hearing more on your fitness progress!

Sorry, last comment honest. How much of your weight loss and inches off do you attribute to exercise and how much to diet. I often hear people say that diet is 90% and exercise is 10% of the equation.

I follow more the buddhist principle, also when it comes to eating. The middle way. With extreme diets it can be tricky on the long term. I was a macrobiotic for a couple of years. Did change my diet because I lacked some stuff. Its inportant not to eat processed food and too much sugar and refined carbs. We live in Portugal and can get or grow all the good stuff. We always use our own Olive oil and do not fry our food. We eat fish (not aqua culture farmed) and grassfed meat, but in moderation. The vegatables and fruits are from our own garden and its all organic. We only eat in a Restaurant once a month and feel ok. So far my Partner (78) and I 64) are in good shape. We are both are daily active, walking ,swimming and working on our land.

I love how fast I can lose weight on KETO but I hate how it has really made my hair thin. I'm SHOCKED at how thin my hair has become and that has frightened me off KETO.

I hear you, sister! Now at 72, I know I have to pay more attention to what I put in my body. I'm lucky enough to have good genes from my mom, but I want to be active as long as possible. My husband died at 65. We were the same age. I could never get him to eat healthier, unfortunately. My boyfriend and I are very conscious of what we eat. We eat a more Mediterranean diet. Lots of EVOO, veggies and protein. I always liked fruits and veggies over sweets so it's not difficult for me to eat like this. We do the same thing that you do once a week by treating ourselves. Although I can't give up my wine! ;-) I have noticed I haven't gotten sick or had days of not feeling my best in years with this diet. Also, I exercise every day and walk. Like you I see others, some of them friends of mine, not taking care of their bodies and I wonder if they realize what they are doing. Kudos to you for making the change!
