Better yet, teach your sons to respect women as equals in value/worth. Male entitlement, lack of accountability, rigid beliefs about gender, and valoration of male violence is responsible for a huge portion of the violence in our world.

You can't know what it's like unless you've been there. Why don't we leave? Because he will find you and beat you again. These monsters are relentless. They will find you and beg you to come home. They promise to change, but they never do. They make you believe you won't be able to find a job or live without them. It's very hard for a woman to break free from an abusive husband. Don't judge the poor victim. Don't say, "If it happened to me, I would leave immediately." No, you would not. The battered wife is cowed and afraid to leave. Been there. By the way, I fought back.

My (now ex) husband told me no one would ever want me because I was damaged goods, used up, and I'd be a single mother but not for long because he would do whatever it took to get my son away from me. I learned to stand up to him and my toddler and I got away. I had to work 2 and sometimes 3 jobs to take care of us, but we made it. My ex never did get sober and has beaten every partner he's had since me. He's sick now from his alcoholism and in jail for beating his soon-to-be ex wife #4. I'm not sure how much longer he will survive. In a way, I feel sorry for him (along with the people he has hurt of course.) No way in h3ll I'd ever go back though. Now my 'baby' is 36 years old with a family of his own. He is kind, gentle, thoughtful, and protective of his family. He is the best dad. He helps the kids with homework, teaches the boys to do 'guy stuff' as a way of bonding with them, and is fair with discipline. I'm so proud of him!

He reminds me of my aunt's ex-husband. I was spending Christmas break with her and my cousin. This was the first time I was meeting her new husband "John". She made a nice dinner from scratch. We sat down, and out of the blue, he flipped the table and punched her in the face. He yelled at my cousin and I to get out of there. We had to listen to him yell, beat and berate her. Why? Because the piece of fried chicken he wanted was on the bottom of the tray! She eventually left him and he began stalking her. Her brother, my uncle, just graduated the police academy and "paid him a visit". We never heard from him again. 😊

@@dfletcher7803 I wonder what "grandma and her sister" did? I would love to know! LOL! Sadly, I went through the same hell. He once told me that if I was on fire, he wouldn't walk across the street to spit on me. Years later he was working on a vehicle out at his step-dad's quonset and a fire started out in the field. He jumped on a tractor attempting to make a fire break and the tractor got stuck. A crowd of people witnessed him jump out of the tractor attempting to run, but the fire surrounded him and consumed him. The flames were about 20 feet high. I bet he was praying for spit at that moment. This movie brings back so many parallel's even many people saying I look like Donna Mills. The abuse and stalking memories give me "goose bumps" watching the movie. ❤‍🩹

I really didn't know what was going to set him off. I had to learn to not be caught or cornered in certain areas, bathroom, the car, bedroom sitting on the bed. One time, he wanted a certain spice in the home-made meal/family recipe instantly mad. It's not always a cut and dry, especially when they are sick. It really is. I am floored by how Tim doesn't even care about his daughter. The guy has everything, what is wrong with him? Very scary to try to leave! I tried 5 times and he hunted me down! It took a year with officers helping me to get out safely, even then he hunted me down again! He finally died- now I am safe! Trust me, it is NOT easy to leave an abuser- they are like the Devil! Very terrifying!

I remember this one. Very different seeing Corbin Bernsen ('L.A. Law's 'Arnold Becker') as an abusive garbage husband and father. Abusers NEVER, EVER change. Little did I know that a few years later my brother would find himself in an abusive relationship, and I would experience my own abusive first marriage about 14 years after this was made. Men (and women) who abuse their spouses will change for nothing and no one. They have NO insight into their shit behavior and actually don't think they're doing anything wrong. Yes, it's often a learned behavior, but the abuser often chooses not to change because they can't stand losing control, which is often what their behavior is really about.

I am 46 today, soon 47, alone, no children and have searched for help to break this cycle since 1998...the psychiatry didnt help me. Almost died back in 2019 bc of the stress of the abuse causing heartfailiure. I remember when this film first debuted! I was floored by how someone like Tim, who seems to literally have it all, would treat his family this way. Its a shame Beth couldn't leave him sooner....as it clearly started with rage then verbal abuse long before he hit her. Maybe he wouldn't have pursued her, especially if she didn't have a child wth him....but Tim was a pretty good manipulator. But the topper is Kaye's husband.......wow. Now that is a psychopath! He stalks his family, seemingly with all the time & money in the world to do so....then acts STUNNED in court when Beth talks about how Kaye wore out. What did he think, she was running because she wanted to be with him?!!! WTH is wrong with these men?!!

Men like that are cowards in their nature, that’s why they abuse women. They don’t do it to a strong man, someone equal, they need a victim (a weak lady, a sheep) If women is weak and can’t stand up for herself then it’s very likely she will get a monster guy like that. I’d been in a marriage like that for 8 years until I got really mad at the whole situation. This horrible marriage made me very strong, so strong that I was able to defend myself and I had even attacked him one day. I was so mad so pissed like a furious tiger who is ready for revenge. I really scared him, I saw the fear in his eyes first time ever. He knew at that moment that I’ll do whatever it takes to get him out of my life. That was last time he abused me. After that we divorced and he never followed me, because he knew I can protect myself. I told him that day : “ from today, from now on YOU will be scared me!! Im not afraid you anymore! I’m not going to live in fear, But You will!! watch your back! And don’t f**ing even try to get close to me, because you will get in a big trouble!” I won!!! Guys like him are evil and you have to play with them by their rules in order to win. You can’t continue to be a nice sweet girl and expect them to leave you alone. You have to become a big time fighter, big time bitch, or even evil like them (temporarily of course) big time! You must be way stronger and tougher. Then they will leave you alone. They will start to look for a new victim. They need a victim not strong girl. They can’t get what they need from strong woman, only from a weak one.
