Never seen or even heard of Lex Fridman, but I do appreciate his interview style. Straight to the point questions, and ALLOWS the person to fully answer. So many times in these sort of interviews the host tries to control the convo or allows their ego to chime in too much. Instead he allowed a poker legend share more than he has in the past 20+ years. Wearing a "Kenny" from Southpark deep hoodest sweatshirt so it doesn't show any of his face. Glasses so dark that they openly admit that they can barely see the table? LOL!!! This was one of my favorite podcasts/interviews. I've been playing poker for over 20 years and used to play full time. I always thought Daniel did a great job of explaining the game and concepts in layman's terms for the sake of teaching or conveying ideas, much like he did here. Then you have Lex who knows little to nothing about the gam, but is a critical and analytical thinker and even without knowing the game is able to discern and ask astute questions. It ended up being a high level thinking component with regards to poker talk and theory/ideology, and I found that fascinating. At the same time, one can ascertain parallels from the critical thinking required for poker to general life and using those same thinking skills.

Hey Lex, as a Poker Player for the past 55 years, I am 67 and playing for cash since I'm 12 years old, having this young man on is great! I have watched Dan play since he came on the poker scene. When I would watch him a decade ago, he would call guys hands, J Q he'd say... And the fucking guy had J Q!! Or the next best either way... Always blew me away. He has a gift that not too many will ever figure out or get a piece of. The game of Poker is ever evolving in what strategies are available to a player. Remember, one night, you clean up, the next, you get cleaned out. LOL I prefer playing only tournaments these days. Pay the entry for a great payoff. Cash games anymore are too volitile and anyone can make stupid all in bets and hit on the river and take your straight to the cleaners when he hits the flush on the river. Good luck, Lex. Let's play. I'm in NYC!! Greenwich Village!

I've been watching poker for about 20 years. Negreanu has always stood out for me, not necessarily for his skills (although he's made some sick plays, like any high level player has), but for his ability to reinvent himself and keep up with the game. At 47, he's still there with the best of them, always learning and adjusting. It's refreshing to see.
@edforbes1563 Жыл бұрын
Yeah totally agree. Just in general, the levels of sports professionals has increased dramatically in the last 20 years. I'm english so when I say football, I mean actual football, but players used to have a smoke at half time, and drink loads, and still be at the top. Now it's all nutrician, lifestyle, anything to get an edge, and if you ain't doing all that, you're falling behind. And poker is a great example of this. Watching the plays they used to make in poker 20 years ago, they'd get crushed now. Ranges, blockers, fucking gto. It's unreal. Have to be a nerd to be a winning playing these days, especially online. But Daniel has evolved, he's recognised the situation and adapted to it. It's a credit to him, and I fully respect it. RIP Doyle.

56:27 This little "speech" negreaunu gives here is easily translatable into ANYTHING. Anything. You could do a whole podcast dissecting this one reply. I just love the way Daniel thinks, but more importantly, I think his practice with teaching others has helped him express his thoughts in a fantastic way. I don't even play poker but I've watched it on and off on youtube for years, and this guy has always been the guy I pay attention to the most in any heads-up situation. Watching Daniel and Phil Ivey play heads-up is a fucking work of art. Yin and Yang at the same table and no one else to dilute it. Imma go watch it again.

I'm seeing a lot of correlation between the poker mindset and Trading based on what is being outlined here.. amazing guest. All my interests on one podcast... thanks Lex

There’s definitely lots of overlap. I know several poker pros who have made the transition to trading. Ray Dalio famously hired Vanessa Selbst and Galen Hall as well

Around 30 mins in,you hit on exactly what I have the most fun with at a table...I get to be absolutely ruthless...with a smile on my face. As a bonus, if it's a great table, with great players, I'm welcomed by a group of those who think the same as me.

Idc what people think of Lex Fridman. This is one of the best interviews I have ever seen. Its not just Daniel Negreanus way of talking into the mic and listening/ waiting but great questions being asked.

@@wurdofwizdumb1928 smh... Why the hell do you think I'm saying that, genius? Because I'm a big fan of watching his endgame tournament play. It has very little to do with the money. You sound poor.

@@fmcdomer He's just running bad in so many spots. I watched all his vlogs the last two series. Last year all his aces were cracked. This year none of his draws would hit and he couldn't make a wheel to save his life. He snapped at one point and broke his selfie stick. He also got trampled during the shooter scare towards the end.

@@carpeimodiem nah.. something was wrong mentally. I think the draft fucked him up because he tried to play as many events as he could. and he tried to push every event to try and win and maybe his steam room gave him a false edge. cuz you would think it would be a huge one. other people without the advantage of a steam room won bracelets
