While natural light may be sufficient to show the object, using artificial light not only helps to show what would normally be missed but turns the shot into art and that is priceless. Love what you do, thanks for inspiration! ❤

see, to me the opposite holds. Sure artificial light can make it look cooler but it looks fake, because we know that's not how natural light behaves

You said it at the beginning…..’painting with light’….it doesn’t matter what light you use we as photographers use it to produce art. There is a place for both natural and ARTificial (There’s that word again….). As a once professional commercial photographer I light painted whole buildings, stacking up to 150 images for clients to have one, people ripped them out of magazines to take to that client at shows….only the client and I knew what I did…the client’s customers didn’t care (it most cases they didn’t notice the artificial light, they wanted what was in the photos).Photography/art is subjective, you will never please everyone, it doesn’t matter, as long as it pleases you Daniel, that is all that counts. For me personally I love your work, it’s has gotten me in to fungi art now I’m retired. Excellent video (I really want one of those lighting rigs, but I’ve just bought the M.Zuiko 90mm macro, so the wife won’t appreciate that 🤣) keep up the excellent work 🤙🤙

Your photography is exceptionally appealing in it’s beauty and simplicity, yet requires a complex understanding of light and how to use it on your part. But more importantly, it obviously pleases you, both in the results, but also in the decisions you make to create it. Purists are certainly welcome to their opinion, but that should have no impact on how others use their photography to convey a mood or message in their images. Personally, I find natural light often is too flat to convey what I think is important in a scene. It often requires a great deal of post-processing to be acceptable. Anyway, just keep doing what you’re doing. The presentation of your processes is spot on. Thank you.

First of all, thanks for the cool video!👍👍 I am sure that it will be interesting and useful not only for beginners, but also for many photographers! I think that most viewers will agree that photographs taken with artificial light seem more magical and mesmerizing. Even a tiny strip of light along the contour of your subject can work wonders✨ As for the choice between natural and artificial lighting, I think that everything depends on the photographer’s idea and task. The main thing is what he wants to convey and show with his work. Sometimes you can’t do without an artificial light source. For example, in a forest, in a poorly lit place, you can find beautiful flowers. What to do in this case?🤔 Due to the dense trees, there is almost no light to shoot the subject. In such cases, artificial light is simply necessary!✨ And thanks again for the great work and wonderful videos!💚💚💚

I am loving they way you use this lighting system as it is the most flexible set up I have seen. I am trying to figure out which light set up would be the most flexible and helpful to me as a macro photography beginner. I can definitely see how effectively artificial lighting enhances macro photography, just as it does with other types of photography. I have been considering the White LED Macro Lighting | Pod Mini Combo Pack with three white lights and a super bright light.Is this a good option to get me started? I might also consider buying three Mini Pods and three White LED Lights, and then add in a colored light or two. Which option would be more helpful for a beginner? Which colored light/light would be the most versatile if I go that route? I enjoy photographing images in the forest, at the beach, as well as of flowers? One last question: How do you feel about the colored diffusers? Are they effective? Thank you so much!
@DanielAucoinFineArt3 күн бұрын
These are good questions, but I think starting with a 3-pod mini with three white lights is a great way to begin. I would first suggest that and encourage you to experiment. Once you feel comfortable with the system, you’ll be able to answer the last part of your question yourself regarding which color light you need. At this point, the most important thing is to get some lighting so you can experiment. If you decide to make a purchase, don’t forget to use this link to get an extra 10% off your order. tr.ee/FlexibleLEDs I hope this answers a couple of your questions! 😉✌️

I love the photos. Actually in most of them, the artificial light worked wonders. Whereas in others where you went natural, it looked better. I think it depends greatly on what is available when you are taking the shot and what light is available to you. Photography and editing is your own art. You can't please everyone, but you please yourself and those that appreciate your particular style. Don't focus on others input ;) I love watching your content, it inspired me. Daniel, I think natural light is best, but when the subject needs a little extra light to reveal its natural beauty, artificial lighting is quite useful in producing the subject in its best possible way. It's art. The photographer is an artist. Really, there is no wrong answer. It is like comparing acrylic painting to oils and watercolors. Each is different a bit, but all have their strengths and value.

Classic DA post, well done. Side by side split screen showing set-up and resulting photo works very well. IMO, side by side comparison pics would be more effective for viewers to assess differences. (As is, viewers would have to rewind vid and play back a few times to do a fair comparison.) My choice of images is the added light version in each case - subject “sculpting” demonstrates your respect for the subject itself. Agree that we make images to please (or motivate, etc.) viewers. In this case augmentation w/added light or materials is fair, as long as we don’t misrepresent the photo as “literal, as-found, documentary/evidentiary”. So go ahead and add a pixie or gnome if that’s what you want to convey😊. Does that make sense? In photographing vegetation /spider webs, etc. how often do we see photos where the maker spray-misted the subject for effect? Not a violation. 40 or 50 images in a focus stack seems like a lot. What minimal numbers have you used successfully? Low cost butter knife and foil combined w/ high-end high tech “smart” lights - nice mix. Cheers!
@DanielAucoinFineArt3 ай бұрын
Again Paul, thanks for your thoughtful comment. I agree with what you said about using light or material as long as we don’t miss represent the photo as “as-found” Depending on the aperture used, I think I could’ve got away with 30 images at f/5.6 but I wanted to keep the background little softer so taking extra images wasn’t a concern for me to make sure I had no surprise and post processing. Thanks for your support Paul 🫶🙏✌️😉

I agree with and support your approach to lighting. Especially with macro shots, it’s very difficult to isolate the subject without some form of light modification be it a reflector, diffuser, flash or use of lights like the ones you are using. It's not the lighting that creates an artificially looking image, it's the added fake or false color. Artificial light enhances the beauty of a Mushroom for sure. Artificial color changes what's real to something untrue. Sure, the image is still art but would you add those false colors to a Landscape image? Maybe 'you' would as I look at your glasses (humor). Oh, since we are on the subject of lighting, the Adaptalux Lighting system isn't cheap but it is great. Much (not all) of what you've done can also be managed in Photoshop. Stacking Mushrooms along with exposure bracketing captures all the details and Luminosity masking can manage the lighting enhancements.

I have been interested in adding artificial light and a tripod to my kit, but I’m very resistant to the weight and bulk. I love just “taking my camera for a walk.” I actually have taken automatic focus stacking shots while hand holding. I do sometimes really appreciate the refined and dreamy look of the lighted shots. On the last mushroom I much preferred the natural lighting. Flowers? Moss? Lichen? Other flora? I’d be interested in what you do with those subjects. I have a feeling that the moss and lichen might require artificial lighting just to get enough depth.

This still belongs to Photography. But it gets blurry when you start editing the sky, texture, colors, or entire composition by photo bashing. Creating art with photography is fine, the result is then an Art piece, not pure photography. That's how I see it. Some still call it photography even tho they turned from green to red, from blue sky to red-pink, from imperfections to absolute perfection. I saw professionals adding additional animals, rocks, trees, sky, layers of landscape and still call it photography... By then I can stay inside and create better photographs inside photoshop without any camera and photos taken. Like I said, the line is blurry. BTW you're remarkable, enjoying the content so far!

Cool, my friend. My suggestion is starts off with one Pod Mini and one white arm if your budget doesn’t allow more of these. You can always buy a Lume Cube 2.0 but if I had to choose between the two, I would definitely take the Pod Mini since it is a lot more versatile and easy to hide behind your subject, and the light source is smaller, which is really important in Macro photography if you want to create micro contrast. Artificial light is just a tool, like a lens, a tripod, a softbox etc. As long as you get the job done in camera - there is no cheating. I prefer to photograph subjects as they are. I don't redecorate the scene. If I can't do the shot without disturbing anything I will probably leave the scene.

I like the photos with artificial lights. The object is your protagonist in a little story if you want to describe it like this. A story needs some dramaturgy, in this case it's the light. I don't think it is cheating to use artificial lighting as you do because you are only photographing what you see or have created. What I do think as cheating is the over use of post processing on a commuter at a later time but that is up to the individual photographer. Great videos though. Thank you

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I get what you’re saying about the overuse of post processing and I agree.✌️🙏😉

What ballhead is this in your Video and does it hold heavy weight gear?
@DanielAucoinFineArt2 ай бұрын
Here's the link to the ball head I'm currently using. I'm working with a Canon R5 paired with a 100mm macro lens-definitely not a lightweight setup-but I’ve had no issues at all with this ball head. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! amzn.to/48ehNve

Köszönöm 🙏🏻 ❤️🩷👍🌹🙏🏻💪😀🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🥇🥇🥇🏵️🏵️🏵️ Mindent szebbé varàzsolsz a szemnek . Ez is Isteni tehetség, àldjon meg érte . ‼️🌹
