I do not photograph mushrooms normally. Tried some natural light stuff here and there, but do not have the patience for it. But that artificial light really elevates it and has me tempted to try it again! Lovely images and video!

Welcome to the fascinating world of Fungi Jamie. Sunlight is your worst enemy and flash not far behind especially with smaller fungi. A small reflector is ideal and subtle use of low powered led also. A little gardening is good and you can always reposition twigs and small branches to achieve a better background. Enjoy

Wish I'd seen this before asking you the question regarding electronic vs. mechanical shutter... lol My understanding is that using electronic shutter with flash leads to banding.

Only if you go over the sync speed. On my camera, the maximum shutter speed I can use with electronic shutter and flash is 1/100. Anything faster than that, I'll get banding

You have tin foil so you always have a lens hood - just shape some around the end of the lens

One question Jamie, I know 60 mm Olympus breathes a lot, at least to the point that creating a stack is impossible, the same Sony 90 mm macro. But does 90 mm OM system breathes too? Be serious. It's a lot of money, and it's hardly to try it out, as I can't rent it in my country.

The 90mm also breathes, but only a bit less than the 60mm. I have done many stacks with both the 60 and 90 and the difference is only minor
