What I've always liked about that movie, is that main characters' struggles are actually relatable or pretty serious- which isn't so common in nowadays Disney Channel movies. Charlie: pressure from his parents, who seem oblivious to his passion and want him to be the copy of his older brother Wen: struggles with the acceptance of his future stepmother, probably his dad never really talked with him about this whole relationship Mo: strict parents, especially her father (no wonder she's dating a troublemaker-ish guy, who encourages her to skip classes or lie to her dad) Olivia: her mum's died and dad is a prisoner- quite dark for Disney, probably aware that she may lose her grandma one day, which (assuming from the movie) is the only family member left Stella: feels like she's not enough for her parents (makes sense with the rebel thing, like asking for attention)

Ive literally always adored this movie so much bc it deals with serious and RELATABLE issues that aren’t so common in Disney movies or shows. Stella struggled with feeling like she didn’t belong with the rest of her family because of the difference in interests or smarts, Wen was struggling with accepting Sydney as part of the family and couldn’t accept that his parents past relationship had ended and his father was moving on, Mo struggled to find her identity as an Indian-American girl while experiencing the pressures of her fathers wishes for her to be “the perfect Indian daughter” along with the pressures of highschool and trying to fit in while dating one of the popular guys and being in a newfound band, Charlie was struggling with his parents constantly comparing him to his older brother and not seeing him as his own person causing him to be trapped in his older brothers shadow, and most of all Olivia, who’s struggling with the passing of her mother and the absence of her father whos in jail and having to be raised by her grandmother. This movie has always been my favorite, it’s just full of the “found family” trope and them all realizing that all they really have is each other. The song “we’ll always be more than a band” is just evidence of that whole dynamic and is the cutest ever. OKAY ALSO THE SONG “SHE’S SO GONE” IS MY FAV WHY DID NAOMI SCOTT EATTTTTTTT.

Fun fact: This movie was based on a book by the same name, there’s a few differences between the movie and the book. In the book, Charlie’s twin brother died at birth, but in the movie Charlie just had an older brother who his parents constantly wanted him to be like.(His older brother was very good at soccer) Mo is an immigrant from India in the book but I’m pretty sure Mo’s parents were from India but Mo was born in the U.S in the movie. Olivia is pretty interesting. In the book, her mom got pregnant with her in highschool and left the father to raise Olivia on his own (In the movie she’s dead). Not to mention that the movie just says her dad is in jail for “bad choices” but the book specifically says he’s in jail for armed robbery and manslaughter. Wen and Stella are mostly the same in the book except Stella has a learning disability. Charlie and Mo also get together at the end of the book which they don’t in the movie. @elsie87574 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's a shame, they're trying to depict rebellion and fighting against the establishment, but like... it's a Disney Channel movie, so they ironically can't go "too far" with it. "We want kids to fight for their individuality and stand up against tyranny!! But like... in a pre-approved, socially-acceptable way". Like at the beginning when Stella gets dress coded. In real life her shirt would probably have something obscene on it, but it's a Disney Channel movie so instead it just has the comparatively unoffensive slogan "question authority" and they _treat_ it like it was obscene. And instead of her and the rest of the band riling the students up to protest about something genuinely important, the hill she's chosen to die on is saving a lemonade vending machine.

This is such a weird fever dream of mature topics handled weirdly + cheesy high school musical moments. I particularly like the part where the band is struggling at band practice and the solution is that they just stop struggling, and then improvise an entire song. Also when the singer and drummer are eating pizza during the cup fight. Anyway I can see how this movie would have slapped as a kid.

That music teacher is seriously great. She's like, "I have to punish you, so today we're going to fix up the music room together while I talk about how much fun having a music room will be," and then when she finds out they all got distracted by music, she's just super excited and encouraging. Also, why would removing a vending machine help the school make money? Why not just relocate it to a spot with higher foot traffic so it brings in more revenue? Did they find out it was a super rare vending machine that's worth a ton of cash? How were they even stocking it, then?
@grodcoyote66352 жыл бұрын
If its a public school I would understand it since public schools tend to fucking hate their arts and music programs, literally do anything to uplift their sports team since that's what gets them more funding. So removing a vending machine that would only benefit the music program out of spite is right in that alley
@ellawanless6412 жыл бұрын
if you watch the whole thing it’s because the school gets a sponsorship from a soda company to fund the sports programs, and so they’re removing any competing machines. which is still a little weird, but slightly more plausible than just “fuck you, music people. we will take your lemonade”

This movie's sorta like if The Breakfast Club had a baby with School of Rock, and then that baby was raised by an alcoholic B movie director, and named Lemonade Mouth ..

lemonade mouth was my favourite movie when i was a child i would literally physically imprison all remotes even when it was time for advertisements to watch lemonade mouth from the beginning to the end at disney channel even tho i had seen it for a lot of times. and it still to this day slaps so hard literally the best disney movie
