Darex Drill Doctor 750SP Review with Dr. Joe. We will review all of the features of this drill bit sharpener and sharpen a standard bit, a split point bit, and a masonry bit. Both 118 and 135 degree bits.
A clear review of setting up the bits properly so they can be sharpened accurately is performed. Also showing how the split point bit secondary bevel is sharpened.
This drill bit sharpener has proven to be very successful in my hands. I highly recommend this product or other drill bit sharpening systems by Darex.

I bought the drill doctor 750 10 years ago and I have to agree with you on the simplicity of sharpening a drill bit with this drill sharpener. In the beginning, there was a learning curve on how to use it. But once I felt comfortable with it, sharpening a drill bit had become second nature to me. I love this machine, it has saved me hundreds of dollars of not having to buy new drill bits every time one of mine wouldn't cut anymore. I can sharpen a bit now faster than you could get in your car and leave your driveway going to the store to buy a new bit. Your video was very accurate on the use of the sharpener. If anyone would be interested in a purchase of a drill bit sharpener, I would highly recommend a drill doctor.

Just bought a Drill Doctor 500SP used off EBay for $50. Your video helped a lot. The stator had a broken wire that intermittently caused it to stop rotating but I was able to repair it. I had a problem where the drill bit didn't have a 118 degree bevel after sharpened and was slightly tilted, so it over ground one side and underground the other side and appeared to be flat, not 118 degrees. It turned out to be a slightly bent drill bit. It had a slight wobble when rolled accross a level table. I have been sharpening up my collection of bits from the last 50+ years. A well built and designed tool is always a treat to use. Thanks for your video. Your video is well done. Denny

I really enjoyed your review. I was on the bench on deciding whether to purchase this unit and your detailed demo helped me make the decision to buy. So many You Tubers seem to ramble on, but you are to the point and very articulate in your explanation. Thank you.

Thank you for your kind comments. You’ll be amazed how new drill bits, typically from Asia, are not really sharp. When you use the drill doctor you’ll see the edges develop and realize that they weren’t ground quite right. You’ll be sharpening drillbits like crazy because it’s quite fun. Consider looking at my other videos if you wish take care Joe Hunstad

Thank you for reminding me how to use my machine. I recently damaged several 3/16" drill bits drilling deep holes in hardened steel (railroad rail) so I had to resharpen them. Interesting point: I found that one of the 6 or so bits had a non-standard flute twist rate which meant that the little fingers didn't locate it properly in the chick! I even hand ground it to a flat end and roughly hand sharpened it, but still "no cigar"! So I finally gave up on it and threw it away. I knew that I could have hand sharpened it, but I just decided to get it out of my shop, so I wouldn't have to deal with it again in a few years.

Thank you for this very informative video , I just bought this whole setup ...😁not even used...,. from a thrift store in Norwalk Connecticut for $30 and I look forward to using it .....I double checked everything in the store ,read the manual thoroughly in the store to see if anything was missing.. it was all wrapped up in plastic and sealed and everything was brand new never opened. it comes in a case and everything's included and everything was perfect ,nothing missing, nothing broken.... look forward to sharpening my dull drill bits(I have a pile of dull old bits acquired over 30 years ....I'm 50 now ) I've been wanting to do this for over 30 years.... to get one of these ...I finally broke down because it was Brand New.. never used !!! in a box sealed up !!!!for 30 bucks , if tools could talk I'd love to know the story behind this and what it's been doing knocking around for 25 years not being opened or what's the story.... thank you for your helpful and very informative video again thanks Peter

Hello PETER. Thank you for your excellent comment. I’m very excited for you to start using it and yes you did get a great deal. Even though it’s an old model it works wonderfully. You’ll have beautiful bits that whole pile of yours that need to be sharpened you’ll love it. Be sure to set it at the correct angle 118 or 135. Always the best take care joe

Can you show how to sharpen a small bit? When I put one in to align the twists the two metal "feelers" snap to the point of the bit instead of to the narrowest area of the bit.
@JosephHunstad
@JosephHunstad Жыл бұрын
Hello Ron J First of all the sharpener cannot sharpen anything smaller than 3/32 It’s best to start with something larger so you can see the point but for the smaller bits the tip needs to be held against the metal backing plate and then the bit slowly rotated so that the pawls engage with the flutes of the bit. Sometimes those smaller bits are quite short, and it makes it really difficult. In that case, a pack of 10 new bits of those smaller diameters are super cheap and basically can become disposable. Consider subscribing. Thanks Joe.

Dr Joe Really helpful video. I just inherited a model 750. I dont seem to be able to move the chuck laterally for split point sharpening. Am i missing something🤔
@JosephHunstad
@JosephHunstad 4 ай бұрын
So thank you for your comment and yes to move it to the split point you need to actually pull it out as you rotated. If it hasn’t been moved for quite a while, it may indeed be stuck, so just wiggle it and take your time, but pull it outward a little bit as you rotate it. Consider subscribing. Thanks. Joe.

Thank you for your comment I just posted a video or will do it today on how to change the wheel it’s pretty straightforward but mine was really tight and required a gear puller and I was six surprised to find a brass shim but I showed how to replace it

@@karendarling3124 yes I was really surprised that I couldn't just twist it off after I took the cover off. Even with the wrench in place it wouldn't come off I needed to use a gear puller which worked just fine. I was really surprised that it had a brass bushing I didn't expect that. Take care
