the idea of a punk band for winterfold is such a genius idea, i hope they take that route especially because the zombie idea is very popular but the group can make it more personalized! i theorize that radiation might’ve caused the zombie outbreak since the poster gives off the energy in the imagery and colour choices. perhaps the band comes to town and does their concert in an abandoned area that’s been contaminated via radiation.

Here are some of my own personal theories for each game: Directive 8020: At first glance I believed it would be a mixture between The Thing and Alien, but upon closer inspection, I believe it will be going in a more cosmic horror direction, like The Color Out Of Space. The Craven Man: Most likely a cult, as the imagery seems to be based on The Wicker Man, though I have discovered craven means a cowardly person, so it is possible one of the playable characters is the titular person. Intercession: I see many theories about it being the mothman or a demon, and I do believe it will most likely be some sort of biblical being, as the act of intercession is praying towards a deity on another peron's behalf. Also, I believe more than likely one of the main characters is going to be a priest or some member of the Catholic Church. Winterfold: Many people believe it to be a zombie game, but I have a much different theory; The Crazies. The Crazies was a 1970's horror film created by George Romero, the same man who created the zombie flick. The film tells about a virus which drives people to murder, using all sorts of implements. The idea of a town going insane and slaughtering each other would be a unique sort of zombie apocalypse, but I might be wrong.

Interesting ideas Kenneth! I love the Winterfold one! Similar to how they didn't use vampires in HoA (even though the parasite and bat creatures were totally based on vampires), it wouldn't surprise me if they took a different angle for zombies too. ~ Jack

First off, I'm so glad that I came across a channel that loves these games as much as I do. Secondly, I try to stay away from spoilers and gameplay for upcoming DPA games (but I'm getting antsy waiting for season 2 hence my being here) so I hadn't heard or contemplated much of any of the theories presented in this video. I've been most excited for the Craven Man based on the season 2 titles alone, and I do love myself some Irisih folklore. My tier list for season 1 is also the same as you lot, with House of Ashes being one of my favorite games of all time. Looking forward to more videos from you guys!

Hay, here’s a crazy out of the box idea for Winterfold. What if it throws us a curve like the main story isn’t set in the past before HOA, it’s actually whatever happened making some sort of comeback 30 or so years later, but the prologue does show what happened before HOA and Brooks and Miller end the prologue saying something ironic like “this will never happen again” and maybe Brooks and Miller could be playable characters coming back to help contain whatever is threatening Winterfold again, but it’s stronger than before and has adapted. Highly doubt that’ll happen, but it’d be an interesting subversion of what we expect from Winterfold.

I think we definitely will see Brooks and Miller again, but if so, maybe it’ll be them as side characters, but it could be possible if Winterfold does end up not being in the past.

So, he’re what I would like to see in the next four games. 8020: As a sort of cross between Event Horizon and Alien, I’d like to see the trailer we’ve seen so far act as the prologue, with the scientists stationed on the vessel slowly being driven insane and murdering one another. The main game, in turn, could see a rescue team try to come in, only to be picked off one by one as the mold makes them hallucenate things (example: A player controlled character hears one of their friends say something, but later on the friend denies saying it. In the end it turns out the suspect party was right and the nobody, not even the player themselves, can believe what is being said on screen). Winterfold: I’d like to imagine that this is a story about a town that has gone dark due to a monster attack, with nobody able to escape. I’d like the plot to basically have a CIA/spooky organization agent to be part of the main party, and the “good” ending requires that person to die so the other can escape, with the “perfect” ending having all of them stuffed into a cell and never heard from again. The Craven Man: I think this is going to be a story centred around human sacrifice, probably by a cult, in a remote area in the north of England. I’d like a plot twist where one of the main party member is evil or possessed, and no good ending is possible if they aren’t dealt with early on ( i.e Clarice). Intercession: I think this story takes place in the past, and looking at the cross… it looks a lot like a sword, so I’m tempted to say it takes place during the Crusades, possibly an isolated city under siege by a unseen but hostile foe. I think the villain is going to be a regular human with evil in their hearts rather than a supernatural being.

I feel like as an idea for the ending of directive 8020 it would be cool if they added the same endings as the house of ashes (the house scene) and the devil in me (the boat scene) where all playable characters can still die, maybe in an escape pod or in a spaceship where the monster is on board the shuttle and is trying to kill all characters remaining. They probably won’t but idk

It has become a staple ending for DPA games now so you could be right! Would be awesome if you had fights and QTE sequences that determine whether characters get to the spacepod or not, otherwise they get stranded with the creature. ~ Jack

My theory for 8020 is that Simms is the ships AI and that it’s gone rouge in vein of 2001: Space Odyssey, with the prologue set in the current day with the development of the AI.

I would love for there to be a shapeshifter killer for 8020, you could do so much with it! Like with the glass trap in The Devil in Me; the person your playing as and another crew member are in some sort of contraction where only one of you can make it out alive, and the person your stuck with could possibly be a shapeshifter, and you can choose whether to sacrifice yourself, or save the other crewmate. It would be pretty cool too if maybe you could be able to play as the shapeshifter and unknowingly help them kill all the crewmates of the spaceship; perhaps that could be a way to get the dark ending.🤔

Like you think you've escaped and you're home free with your partner then they transform and kill you. Would be very fitting with Alien. There's so much you could do but I would also want it to be handled right meaning I'd want time and care to be given to it. - Liam

Heyyy I recognise that commenter hmmm… I’m very confident that Winterfold will take place in the actual forest and if not it will at least take place in a forest. Man of Medan translates to the Ourang Medan which is the ship the crew are trapped on. Little Hope takes place in a town with the same name. House of Ashes takes place underground which is where the souls of the dead were said to go. And The Devil in Me takes place in a replica of H.H Holmes Hotel and of course the title were part of his final words. So why call it Winterfold if it has no actual relevance to the forest AND have the location be circled on Zain’s map? Great vid lads!

Really not sure! Tbh I'd be surprised if SM tackled a theme of mass suicide. Dunno why but I just can't see it. But I can totally see them going the usual route of a sadistic cult, using people as sacrifices. And the Mothman is it's own being I think? So I don't think people transform into him. Hmm... I am trying not to develop any theories on Season 2 games until we get an official trailer for Directive 8020, at the least. In the meantime, I will posit some things I would like to see for each game, or else plot elements I believe are likely to appear. Directive 8020: No help from Earth, or Tau Ceti f; five playable characters on lockdown with threat that must be contained. The slime decorating the walls likely isn't related to the vampires from House of Ashes, but maybe that is down to lighting in the teaser. I would love to see experimentation with "head vs. heart" questions to find imposters among the cast, as opposed to just asking the player(s). (P.S. Forbidden Planet, another sci-fi take on The Tempest, is a great movie. I'd recommend it.) The Craven Man: A "bad deeds of the past catching up with survivors in the present" story done right. Unlike Little Hope, there will be actual supernatural powers involved, or at least the illusion of them with cult activities. I am thinking something similar to a Fatal Frame game (Seriously, the rituals for each game are so messed up, especially for 2 and 3.) or combining influences from films like The Wicker Man and Midsummer. Intercession: HOG said something about Robert the Bruce of Scotland relating to this game. If this is the game that takes us to the UK, focusing on folklore and legends (interacting with budding Christianity, which sought to absorb and supersede earlier faiths), I would like to see Zain Othman here. Perhaps he'll be a professor at the university whose acceptance letter we saw in House of Ashes. Winterfold: I don't have many thoughts about this game. Although, that poster revealed in The Devil in Me makes me wonder if we will see the fashion and music of the late 80s/early 90s in this game. This game will be the one that is closest to Supermassive Games' real life headquarters, so I expect faithful renderings of the scenery. Who knows? Maybe we can get a playable character modeled on one of the chief game developers. That would be cool.

I don't think Winterfold is going to be set in the literal forest because it seems a bit on the nose. If we look at The Devil in Me, the murder hotel was in Chicago and that was a popular theory of where the game would be set. If they wanted to do an original location for TDIM, then they might do the same for Winterfold. But maybe that's where the prologue will be set.

My prediction on the enemies for D8020 are based solely on me just watching the teaser and looking at previous in-game easter eggs. For me, I think that we might be getting two enemies to deal with. An alien organism, and people who have ulterior motives, like a cult or an organization specifically, but that just my wild theory. Not a fan of space horror but I love the game Dead Space, so you can see where I'm coming from. There was a mention of a Charybdis marker, reminds me of Dead Spaces marker. For when the game is setting. I theorize it's going to be a mix of old and future timelines. There's an easter egg in Little Hope that mentions the Apollo missions. Maybe the prologue might be one of those. If this game takes place near or within the Cetus constellation and the crew are planning on reaching the planet Tau- Ceti F, that must mean that technology has advanced and its going to be set in the far future. However, I'm predicting two types of futures. If this is a crew ship carrying passengers to the planet, this game might be set post apocalyptic. The teaser did mention finding humanities future home. On the other hand, if the ship is just carrying millitary and researchers, and their only purpose is to investigate the planet, I would say like a thousand year gap.

If Zain was made a playable character it would be a little tricky with these games not being like Telltale’s Walking Dead of Batman where choices carry over to the next season. How I would do it is have Salim be brought up once in a conversation where characters are talking and a Zain dialogue could be choosing between happy or sad. The happy one being Zain talking about Salim and that they’ve been doing great over the years and the sad one branching off into two different dialogue options where he can say Salim was arrested or died during the war.

That's true. I know some choice based games (take Life is Strange for example) offer a choice to the player before the game even begins. So maybe they could ask "what happened to Salim in HoA?" or something. Not sure I'd be a fan of it but at least it's a way around the problem. ~ Jack

@@ButterflyEffectPodcast I think the most _likely_ option is that they would probably just have Zain say that Salim "Vanished" which would leave it open to interpretation as to whether he either A. Died and Zain never found out or B. Survived but was detained and held captive for fear of him leaking the entire ordeal. sadly, both of these would render the "Eric didn't Request air support; Merwin Died" ending of Salim's story non-Canon, which is always a bad move for Anthology Dev's to make. (Saying that any given ending isn't canon, that is.) a Third and Possibly least likely option could be the development of some kind of "Supermassive Games Account" which one could sign into in any give game, and it would log the most recent story outcome and take from that, thus making (as anthologies should) both every ending and no ending truly canon.

I don't think so with the next 4 titles confirmed. Anthologies are meant to be left untouched. It's possible we will see Easter eggs and maybe essences of it in spin off or bonus games but I highly doubt TIDM 2 will be a thing. - Liam

So we obviously know 8020 is in space. We know that something has to make the one character crazy or something from the teaser. What i think is that we might see 2 sides join forces, like Salim with the marines in house of ashes or it's a group of people on one side like in devil in me. What I'm hoping for is we do Get a physical monster like THE THING cause that would be awesome. Not sure about Craven Man that wasn't already said but I'm still up for the game once we get it. For Intersecion, I wanna guess we'll start with some kind of cult at the start of it then lead into a monster cause of a ritual of some sort. The T is either an upside down cross or medieval marking from the look of it. For Winterfold I'm hoping it's not Zombies but maybe something like Frankenstein's monster. we see a bloody handprint that usually means zombies but what if it's misleading and saying something is dead and chasing the cast?

I’m really hoping the next game is basically The Thing is space. It would be great if the next game’s biggest challenge was social deduction and choices rather then action or QTEs. Rewatching the movie it’s really interesting to try and pinpoint when a person was turned into the thing. With a game you might not know when or what choice got someone infected. So potentially it could be the most fun to replay.

If i write a comment about everything about this video itll be hard to read. However you guy's know alot of thoughts of mine of the other games. The Craven Man however im dreaming it to be irish based. I will go mad in a good way. A banshee is possible or a mix or creature +banshee the whale of a banshee could be mixed in with a killer creature. Who knows. I wonder what county it will be set in. If it's in Kerry, Cork, Limerick or around that west side of Ireland then im only 3-4 counties away on the east side from the set location!!! I hope they do TCM correctly if it is Ireland based. It could be based in Donegal, north of Ireland but in the republic of Ireland. As there is a crown it looks like up there. Lets see where it goes! How dare you say Little Hope is the worst DPA game lol. House Of Ashes is the worst for me, My ranking would be, from worst to best: 4. (tie) House Of Ashes / Man Of Medan 2. The Devil In Me 1. Little Hope I was so hyped for Man Of Medan but it disappointed me, and I don't like the war-aspect of House Of Ashes or that the monsters were those alien/vampire/parasite creatures. The build to the reveal seemed kinda cool and then it just felt to me like some weird cop-out and just being like "eh, let's make them alien things". The Devil In Me was good, I enjoyed it, but my favorite was definitely Little Hope. Though the BEST Supermassive Games game without a doubt is their OG: Until Dawn.
