So yeah, the estoc might be the best weapon in the game
If you're running a quality build and want to wreck people in pvp, give this a shot
More info on build:
- Quality Build (put 40 in strength and dexterity)
- Put the rest of your levels into health and stamina
- This was level 99
- Infuse the estoc with a refined gem
- Use the Leo Ring for extra counter damage
- locate your R1 button and spam that shit (barely costs any stamina)
- it weighs very little, so you can pick your armor style
- Apparently you can turtle behind a shield with this too, but I have not tried that out much myself
- The L2 weapon art attack pokes through shields

+k-inetic I don't know how well It would work against the estoc, but for most weapons if you block the first two hits you can parry the third every time. I do it with the buckler (unless enemy is using a heavy weapon) works really well against spammers.

The issue is not that the Estoc is OP. The real issue is the fact that From Software somehow left the Poise system disabled in the games script, making the Estoc OP when it shouldn't be. This makes the Estoc the ultimate stunlock weapon because of this. Poise is supposed to be the counter to this weapon, but its absence makes it far stronger than it has any right to be.

+RevolverPhantom Dark Souls 1's thrusting swords only did like 8 damage, because someone had the brilliant idea that thrusting swords should be about poking at an opportune moment and then avoiding damage as the opponent tries to get back at you. Back then thrusting swords were also THE way to chase down wizards and other defensive players. That person got fired before they made Dark Souls 2, where being poked with a super fast rapier attack was the end of many a person's life. And they kept it for Dark Souls 3... and it looks like it staggers people out of all but the largest attacks...

The only possible counter (besides parrying) I've found to thrusting swords like the Estoc is to use a weapon with poise during its swings and trade on the first hit. Weapons like the Hollowslayer Greatsword and Drakeblood Greatsword. That, or use weapon arts, since almost all of them grant poise. Come to think of it, weapons like the mace with the weapon art Perseverance may be a solid counter to thrusting swords.

Weapons have only ever had a stat that determines how much poise they reduce per hit in Dark souls 2, i dont think one and three have it

Its a good weapon, but those R1 spams are very punishable. If you ran into a players that is skillful at parrying, then you might want to change your strategy. I love this weapon, used it through my entire playthrough, and the thing that i love about it, is the stagger capability and anti-roll attacks, which in this case is just spamming R1 and also the range on it. But if you run into a player that has an ultra greatsword, then he won't be staggered so easily when he or she is doing a weapon art or a heavy attack. Just a heads up for those who don't know. And how did you not get stunned when you hit his shield? It usually bounces back, stunning you for a bit leaving you open for attacks.

+Mal Nexus My guess is you like the meta where only three weapon classes are consistently usable, all of them fast, so you don't have to learn all the weapons in the game. Because is DS1, every weapon was usable if you had the proper build, balancing offense, carry weight, and poise. In this game, all I have to do to win is... Step 1: equip longsword, katana or rapier Step 2: Win mostly by R1 spam, with the ever so occasional parry required. I miss DS1 varied meta so much.

I've lost like 3 out of 100 duelss. All it takes is R1 spam if they're retarded, Weapon art if they shield turtle and if they're over aggressive and spam running attacks parry. It's fucking boring. There is no point in using anything other than the refined longsword or estoc because their is no poise. If poise was in the game, users of light weapons would have to think before they rushed in and started spamming. I only have rose tinted glasses because poise was a great mechanic. I played hundreds of hours of duels in DS1, using every weapon in the game. I likely won't be doing that in this one. Longsword, Estoc, Chaos blade FUGS, BKGA. New meta. New boring meta.

Humanity Network shields aren't bad tbh, at least shield bashes don't ignore stamina completely anymore, if you have high stamina then you can't be shield bashed easily.
