The last DaS3 lore video I'll be making for a while; have I saved the best until last? Not exactly, but the Firekeeper lady seems to be the perfect way to send things off, for the time being.

For sone reason, I keep thinking that End of Fire ending is a romantic build up between the Ashen One and the Firekeeper and hearing the last words on what sehe said about hearing hear voice sounds like a combination between loyalty to the Ashen One and a more "closer connection" between the two. But who knows I might be wrong or right.

In the DS3 first trailer, we can see the Firekeeper crown have swirling darkness within it, looking quite like the “egg” of Filianore.

Exandil Woah, my limited knowledge on the matter says that makes a lot of sense! she's blind, her "flame" could be the egg, which upon destruction brings the literal end of times, and she's the youngest daughter of Gwyn, she may have been born with the purpose of tending to the flame to preserve his age of fire. Nice catch, definitely worth speculating.

Liliane appears in the Sable Church ending although it’s still possible the Firekeeper is her, as we do not see her and the Firekeeper in the same shot. As for the Fair Lady, the Firekeeper of DS3 has her exact hair and hair style, and we find the corpse of the spider half of the Fair Lady, without her human half.

Besides the whole painting a new world with the pigment stuff, I've always preferred to not light the fire. Rekindling the fire is just prolonging the inevitable, whereas not lighting means the world can finally end. Perhaps FromSoftware wants it that way, by beginning a new world, somewhere that cuts its ties with Dark Souls.

I always usurp the flame. For me it's a third path as opposed to the main two. Linking the flame just resets or prolongs the inevitable, letting it die doesnt do much since it could either be linked again or came back later on thus bringing the age of fire again. Usurping the first flame binds it to your ashen one finally making them kindled but also giving you the combined power of every lord since gwyn as well as the all the power the flame had since its beginning. "Beyond the reach of light, beyond the scope of dark" mixing the flame with the darkness of humanity the dark sigil preserves the flame from dieing but also allows it to become something else while at the same time keeping it out of the hands of those who would abuse it. Because once its bound to the ashen one it cannot be unbound. Kaithe and the sabel church may be untrustworthy or they may be genuinely on our side, whose to say but at least the flame is in our hands as lord of hollows instead of in theirs.

Eyes are the 'windows to the soul' were you to remove the windows you would cast your soul into the dark. Alternatively, maybe doing so keeps the light of a firekeeper's soul from escaping making them seem emotionless.

As with everything in Dark Souls, our Fire Keeper is never what she seems. She's aloud a sliver of light to remember her grand betrayal. We have our own. She remembers. And so does Ludleth. An unquenchable dark for a seemingly infinite cycle. Although this one has a beginning. What they believed was a gift, a sacrifice, was nothing more than a nail into the coffin. Give her the eyes. Rise.

I think the Secret ending of Dark Souls 3 (the one that is a demon's Souls reference) as the ending where Ashen one has a change of heart in the last moment, strikes her down to a desperate attempt at saving the first flame. But fails and the age of dark comes anyway. Firstly this is speculation. Secondly. The reason why I think the ending is this way is 1. well... It's more depressing. Because as you know in Dark Souls. For the most part. There are no happy endings. 2. Look at the way how Ashen one holds the first flame. It looks like the Ashen one is offering it to either the Darksign or the bonfire. The subtitles I think It's a way to mislead the players.

Snuffing out the flame is my favorite ending. You can choose what happens to the firekeeper...but I never have the heart to attack her. Maybe it is the wonder in her voice if you don't...like she did expect betrayal and you did a thing she did not forsee. Also the fact she says she sees other flames in this new darkness to come...I find hope in this. The cycle of flame, whether it be a flame of the gods or a flame of man is still just the age of fire. A path tread over ceaseless for time immemorial. A thing done so many times the very world is weary of it. What would have happened if the gods had not tried to force the world into their own image in a fit of pure hubris? This is a thing I want to know. Why is it seen as the end? Do we know the world will end if fire fades completely? All we know if the fears of the gods...whose rule was venal from the start.

How did i miss this video? Well, it's very interesting altogether. What you said about letting the flame fade away and that to let "new flames rise from the ashes" really makes it intriguing and fun to believe that Bloodborne is the "world without flames" she speaks of. A new world, one that doesn't rely on a dying flame, and one that is heavily evolved. But of course, it is a _very_ dark world.

@@rockywood712 that's not exactly true. While some of the monster are technically undead they aren't as special as you. Ashen ones, are undead, but they aren't monsters, yet. When an Ashen is resurrected, it is because he has a duty to fulfill. For example onion bro, his duty was to kill yhorm if he were to reject his duty as Lord of cinder, which he does. That's why when you kill yhorm, if you did it with onion bro, he dies after the fight. Same goes with anri and Horace, just with a different purpose. The thing is, when an Ashen one fulfills his duty, he is hollowed. Yes, he is dead, void of feeling and also hostile, but he isn't compared to things like the maggot beasts, or if you wanna go even further, creatures like the demons.

As much as I dislike DS3, the ending where you let the firekeeper take the flame, where she says "hearest thou my voice still?" really stuck with me. I imagine the whole world turned dark at that point, but everyone is still alive. It's a strangely peaceful image and I can imagine the surprise of the ashen one and her when they find not much has changed.

Saw an interesting theory once... So in the demon ruins of ds3, there's quelana dead in front of the fair lady. Notice that only the demon like body of the fair lady is there and the top half is missing. I can't say that I have all the facts, and I certainly haven't ever played the game, but... the thing about the Age of Dark ending or whatever you want to call it - when she takes the First Flame, and thus extinguishes it, I don't imagine the whole 'romance in times of strife' thing a lot of people do. Not even a romance. It's more... 'sitting at the crest of a hill, even when all is dark, the Ashen One and the Firekeeper are side-by-side. One is exhausted from the hours of fighting, dying and fighting again. The other is directionless; she has lost her purpose and has no more flame to tend. She rests her head against the shoulder of the Ashen One, and they let her. The world is dark. The future is uncertain. Maybe they have condemned themselves and all they know to death. But here at the edge of the world, at least you can rely on the comfort of a friend.'

She's his eldest sister to be exact. She also the first-born daughter of Cronus and as well the first-born of the Olympian gods. The lore regarding her is a bit more involved, but in simplest terms her job is to maintain the fire of Mt. Olympus; hence why she is often referred to as the Goddess of the Hearth.

I think the Firekeeper is from the Boreal Valley. She has a similar elegant gate and body structure as the ghosts we see in Irithyl. Also, (and this is a shaky theory) there is a picture in the Distant Manor, if you’re facing the giant portrait of Gwynevere and manage to tear your eyes from her giant teats for a moment, to the left (opposite the alcove to hide from the silver knights) is a smaller portrait of a slender woman. That person could just as easily be the Dancer. But I think the face shape/bone structure is very similar to what the firekeeper would look like without the mask.

I feel like it’s worth making a connection between the “Lothric” Fire Keepers and the priestesses of Eleum Loyce. Just as there is only one Fire Keeper at a time (in Lothric- this obviously was not always the case) there was always one priestess of Eleum Loyce guarding the Old Chaos. The first priestess removed one of her eyes so that each of her successors could replace one of their own eyes with it, allowing them to see things others could not. Similarly, the first Fire Keeper’s eyes can be given to the last Fire Keeper, allowing her to see visions of betrayal. In DkS2 the Fire Keepers have all retired or died. All that’s left is the Emerald Herald, an artificial Fire Keeper created by Aldia and Vendrick. In DkS3 the Fire Keepers are back, but they’ve changed the way they do certain things (only one at a time, all blinded). I believe that the Fire Keepers of DkS3 may be a continuation of the priestesses of Eleum Loyce.

I would present a weak theory. To answer the question of, "Who is the Firekeeper?" one must know who the Ashen One is. The story is about commencement, not endings. The last scene is not an ending, but a beginning. Considering the time tomfoolery, it's a slim possibility the Ashen One is not the last one to bear the flame, but the rather the first of all. After all, how do you create a flame without a match? You use a fire drill, and a fire drill makes a smoldering punk, otherwise known as a small bit of ash. The "miniature cycle" of firekeepers was this drill being driven by the only faithful Lord.

Doesn't 'first firekeeper' have some implication to the first sin? Since she might have seen what happened when the First Flame was linked. The burning of human as cinders. The possibility of the First Flame being so great it corrupts all the hearts of those who see it? Or a more speculative approach, maybe these eyes have seen the abyss / art of lifedrain from dark souls 1. Also more tales of betrayal by Manus / Four Kings / Seath? The real clue In my opinion is where in a timeline (if there is any) these Eyes have been taken from the first Firekeeper and what kind of betrayal they have seen.

Okay I am late to this, but I always thought that the eyes of the first firekeeper belonged to one of the firekeepers of DS1 (actually I think all of the references in DS3 go back to DS1). The firekeeper soul could belong to the firekeeper soul that we find in New Londo ruins, since the place succumbed to the abyss and since her soul is above the domain of the 4 kings and the darkwraiths (the flooded part) she escaped the abyss and died above it. And I believe that same firekeeper is the one that the estus ring refers to, since it was based on the ring of displacement. But the eyes I always thought belonged to Anastasia. She is the firekeeper of firelink shrine, the place that Gwyn and Frampt designed as a place for undead sacrifice as well as the place where Frampt would awaken to greet the "chosen undead(s)". It makes sense she was the 1st one to be appointed, even if her age doesn't seem to match, she is in the intro though so who knows how time affects the firekeepers (Quelaag was pretty young as well). She is the one who saw the chosen undead link the flame, she knows that her wish to die human is a lie, that Frampt lied and the curse of the undead isn't lifted by linking the flame. If anyone could see that the cycle has to continue through darkness, it's her. Don't know if that makes sense though.

11:33 This ending reminds me of the last 4 seconds of Vanilla Sky and since both of these endings are open to interpretation it means it can either be a hopeful and satisfying ending or a desolate and cynical one. I would go on but I don't think I should spoil the movie if you never watched it.

I think you're idea about types of fire keepers makes sense. If for no other reason then because of the bell's ringing. To elaborate: Without lords of cinder or unkindled ash, as it would be very early on in the cycle, why would you have a woman in a random temple to track down and tend to the flame?

could you Make a lore about the Player character because nothing happens randomly in Dark souls and i Think we belonged to One of the pillars on the Previous life. it could be that we we're the 3rd blackhand because gotthard help us on the abyss Watchers (should be hawkwood job but he refused to fight his fellows) and pontiff. the blackhand serves lothric but gotthard decided to change sides and kill the prince thats Why the Leon Warrior can be summoned but he returns to his World once you kill the Maiden, he Sees that you no longer serve lothric. After he, the Second blackhand kumai (i Think its his name and After he Kills gotthard in the library) and the Crystal Daughter will try to Stop you before you reach lorian. if my theory is right then the lore will be Deep as the abyss

Saying the cycle will continue is in my opinion lazy. Tiny flames, embers from lords past is referring to people, great figures as the lords of cinder leave embers and tiny flames. Which the firekeeper places on you. If anything the dark is seen as eternal. The painting formed from the dark souls is eternal with no rot.

Just curious on peoples thoughts for 2:29. The fire keeper in the cinematic trailer puts on the crown containing the dark sign, is this why you don't hollow? Is this crown related to the ones you collect in DS2 to stop you from hollowing? Finally is there a connection between the first fire keeper and the crown?

When they originally came out with that cinematic, I did think it was tied to the crowns from Dark Souls II in some way, but ultimately I don't think there's much connection as they kinda... never mentioned it in game. I think that swirling thing is what robs her of her sight though.
