@robyn72872 ай бұрын
It’s a great idea but I wonder if it would make a big difference. People who have been abused are often so traumatised that they may not believe it. I’ve had friends who have experienced abuse and it seems like they just can’t accept anyone who speaks out against their partner. They believe that they can change and help him and even believe that they are the problem. I’ve seen that it often takes extreme abuse before they leave. 😢
@Dani.G19752 ай бұрын
@robyn7287 yes, that's the Trauma Bond which is very common in abusive relationships. The Survivors Programme (based on a book called One in Four Women) goes into great detail about trauma bonds and how to recover from them. Its once they have worked a programme and their eyes have been opened to how the abuser works, they go on to report it to Claires Law and help future victims. I personally concentrate on this area when talking to women and I help them see I the real person and all the controlling behaviours which allow victims to cover for them. I would recommend the book to your friends... it really does help. X

i always tell people the first time someone says or does something controlling in a relationship, make it the last time! no more dates, no need to “be nice” & break up in person or anything like that. recognize that person is dangerous & not worth the risk. take relationships slowly, give things like that a chance to rear their head before you get serious, move in, etc. you have to be careful & a bit suspicious these days. i know, it’s sad but true. be careful out there!!

TOO LATE 😢
@michelebella677Ай бұрын
Sometimes that's easier said than done, especially for people who are prone to unhealthy relationships to begin with. Usually domestic abusers have a sixth sense to know who is prey and who isn't. Denial and rationalization usually sets in because the abuser begins the process of gaslighting their victim. I wish it were that easy for warnings to be heeded, but if they need to have someone give a warning like that its already too late.

Once could take the view that the decision to "press charges" should not really be the choice of the victim. You could take the view that violence in society is a social concern for which the law-enforcement authorities are responsible. This will be different in different jurisdictions. I don't know about English law on this point -- would, say, a bank that has been robbed be able to ask the charges to be dropped?

What needs to happen is whole country awareness about Domestic Violence. Australia, who had a dreadful reputation of DV, put public awareness bulletins on TV for all to see. It's 2024, there's actually no excuse to make ignorant comments like this acting like the victim is at fault. If you are not able to Google something like, "why is it hard to leave an abuser", then there's no help for you mate. It is hard to leave an abusive relationship, no matter how much support you have. This wasn't Claire's fault. This man was a predator and an abuser. You also clearly failed to take in the parts of this doco discussing the lack of communication between police and frontline services. I hope that you never have to have any kind of firsthand experience of the difficulty of leaving an abusive relationship, but for people with your level of comprehension, the only way you learn to have empathy in situations like this is by having it affect you.
