Wow... I'm a domestic abuse therapist and facilitator of the new Survivors Programme which is an up to date version of the freedom programme and I tell Survivors about Claires law all the time... never knew the full story of how it started. Her dad is now my new hero! X

It’s a great idea but I wonder if it would make a big difference. People who have been abused are often so traumatised that they may not believe it. I’ve had friends who have experienced abuse and it seems like they just can’t accept anyone who speaks out against their partner. They believe that they can change and help him and even believe that they are the problem. I’ve seen that it often takes extreme abuse before they leave. 😢
@Dani.G1975

@robyn7287 yes, that's the Trauma Bond which is very common in abusive relationships. The Survivors Programme (based on a book called One in Four Women) goes into great detail about trauma bonds and how to recover from them. Its once they have worked a programme and their eyes have been opened to how the abuser works, they go on to report it to Claires Law and help future victims. I personally concentrate on this area when talking to women and I help them see I the real person and all the controlling behaviours which allow victims to cover for them. I would recommend the book to your friends... it really does help. X

i always tell people the first time someone says or does something controlling in a relationship, make it the last time! no more dates, no need to “be nice” & break up in person or anything like that. recognize that person is dangerous & not worth the risk. take relationships slowly, give things like that a chance to rear their head before you get serious, move in, etc. you have to be careful & a bit suspicious these days. i know, it’s sad but true. be careful out there!!

@michelebella677
@michelebella677 Ай бұрын
Sometimes that's easier said than done, especially for people who are prone to unhealthy relationships to begin with. Usually domestic abusers have a sixth sense to know who is prey and who isn't. Denial and rationalization usually sets in because the abuser begins the process of gaslighting their victim. I wish it were that easy for warnings to be heeded, but if they need to have someone give a warning like that its already too late.

I remember watching this episode few years back because I rember the dad being so lovely. It was brutal what this animal did to his poor daughter. Witnessed dv all my life through friends, family and just growing up in poverty and it always broke my heart. I said has a woman , nope, never me and I’ve never had it I thought until I look back and realise I was emotionally abused a couple times but cut them freak off. My ex got out of court and came straight to my house after attempting to push me out a 2nd story window. Did he get a jail sentence with his terrible previous including having an emergency unit in the main hospital for a massive area closed because he kicked off, no. He got a community payback order. Once could take the view that the decision to "press charges" should not really be the choice of the victim. You could take the view that violence in society is a social concern for which the law-enforcement authorities are responsible. This will be different in different jurisdictions. I don't know about English law on this point -- would, say, a bank that has been robbed be able to ask the charges to be dropped?

Michael, don't blame yourself, abused victims keep it quiet because they are scared what might happen if they say something. However, in cases like these, it is a ticking time bomb. What needs to happen is whole country awareness about Domestic Violence. Australia, who had a dreadful reputation of DV, put public awareness bulletins on TV for all to see. It hasn't cured it but it has helped and will continue to do so.

You can't blame the police after she insisted they drop the charges. What are they supposed to do? Women need to stop changing their minds & taking them back. We need to start taking responsibility for bringing these men in our lives then expecting the law to come running on the days we don't want to deal with it then when we're lonely, turn around & let them back in. It's ridiculous.

It's 2024, there's actually no excuse to make ignorant comments like this acting like the victim is at fault. If you are not able to Google something like, "why is it hard to leave an abuser", then there's no help for you mate. It is hard to leave an abusive relationship, no matter how much support you have. This wasn't Claire's fault. This man was a predator and an abuser. You also clearly failed to take in the parts of this doco discussing the lack of communication between police and frontline services. I hope that you never have to have any kind of firsthand experience of the difficulty of leaving an abusive relationship, but for people with your level of comprehension, the only way you learn to have empathy in situations like this is by having it affect you.

There is you get your friends to have a word and give them the same treatment because the police do NOTHING and neither do the courts. My ex got a community payback order after holding me at knifepoint for days and when the police broke in he was trying to push me out a 2nd storey window and he was let oit the nxt day and came straight to my house. This was years ago and STILL nothing has changed when it comes to DV and stalking.

I think the police should go round and warn women if theyre seeing someone whos a danger like an Osman warning. The police and justice system are oathetic in this country when it comes to DV and stalking. Clares dad should be so proud of himself, hes such a lovely man and i hope he knows how much Clares law will help.

UK or US, when it comes to DV, women’s lives are expendable to law enforcement. Every country in the world, to be candid.

There should be more awareness from the very start in schools about the dangers of the internet. Young children are given mobile phones at a young age with no supervision. There's still no way of knowing what your partner is harbouring if you meet them in the old fashioned way, but at least you instantly know what they look like. R.I.P. Clare and God bless her dad and family 🙏🏼💝

She herself dropped criminal charges against him. She ignored her father’s gut feeling. She let this monster have access to her home and child without getting to know home. I am not blaming the victim, I am saying she had warnings, help, offers of support and security. Few but some did did support her.

Her father is a great man 💖🥰! The United Kingdom (UK) is a cute little country. I feel that is a great thing being new here while asylum seeking. It makes the interactions with people more close knit feel. As I have had 3 different women help me out on different occasions for my safety and health. And I have been here for about 2 months. These women take care of me almost like being in a relationship, but I only met them for the first time when they decide to help me. This is why I say that it feels more close knit together. 💖🥰😃. This is a great country. Thank you UK!
