While I was in an abusive relationship, I called the domestic violence hotline, and found total incompetence, and zero help. It was shocking to me that was reality, absolute ineptitude from a person who had NO clue how to help. Supervisors, and program managers and people on the board of directors should be testing the effectiveness of their own system all the time, and the calls should be recorded and reviewed. Having volunteers is NO excuse for a horribly run emergency system for people who desperately need competent staff to talk to.

My mother abused my father. Every night,my sister and I would hear her put him down over and over again....saying awful things to him. We tried to stop it but she ended up abusing us also. He ended up committing suicide when I was 12 and my sister was 6. He left a suicide note saying I hope you are happy now. It was very hard for us. We loved our dad. He was a good man. He did start drinking to deal with the abuse but he was still a good man. After he committed suicide, she started abusing us more. We ended up in foster care which I was thankful for. I still feel like there is some way I could have saved my father....to tell him "please just leave and take us with you." My sister and I still can't talk to our mom.

Growing up with a father who verbally abused my mother, I cried reading your story. Luckily, father left us, and only then did we have peace. As adults, we forgave our father and looked for him. He died with us.

@@rolandoesteban9514 I'm so sorry.😔 I know how hard it is to grow up in that atmosphere as a child. I'm so glad that you were able to find peace and to also reconnect with your father. My sister and I have tried a few times to reconnect with our mother but she still has a lot of those abusive tendencies which makes it hard for us and brings up the trauma again. I have forgiven her but it is really hard to have her in my life because I feel like I turn into that scared little girl again.

I think Tony is more of a manly hero because he never hurt physically hurt her. Men are physically stronger than us so he could've hurt Tracy if he really wanted to but he never hurt her mentally or physically. That took a lot of physical strength on Tony's part.

In Mexico City, in the 60's, we had a neighbor that was abused by his wife. He was a small man and she was a huge lady, and in public she would hit him and insult him. We felt very sorry for him. They used to have a small shop and he was always polite and gave me discounts when I went to buy something for my mom on mother's day. We knew him as don Celestino. Here I remember him with my heart.

People do not understand how horrific a malignant and/or covert narcissistic personality can be.. They isolate, triangulate, blame, accuse and play the victim . In their minds it is everyone else who is at fault. Narcissistic personalities find the rescuers /co dependents and intitially love bomb them , after securing the person in their clutches the manipulation , demoralization and games begin. EXACTLY. They’re at the start of seeing what you’ll tolerate. I’ve got what I refer to as my first husband my “practice” husband. lol practice referred to the lesson for what NOT to do. Oh he had a temper, and had a mouth on him BEFORE I married him. That said, NEVER was that directed at me. Never was it about me. That started immediately after I married him. I married in Church, in front of a few hundred people. There’s no divorce in my family. He thought I’d never divorce him. I left within a year. Nope. No BS sorries, no amount of excuses or “apology” gifts. I left. I filed for divorce and annulment. The first thing he said was “You said you’d never leave”. My answer? “You are a fraud”. He went on to marry a girl a decade younger than him, uneducated and from an abusive home. He got what he wanted. Someone to control. Sad.

I'm still dealing with it😢 I was married for 32 years to my abuser. We lived in my childhood home so it was hard for me to leave. We had 3 children, he passed away in 2009 but I still have issues that even moving away from there hasn't helped. I have trust issues and have a very difficult time making friends. @@GrandmaMouse1960 I was married to a malignant narcissist for 23 years and it nearly destroyed me. He’s a highly respected 7 figure a year professional. People who meet him think he’s a great guy. People admire him and aspire to be like him. He’s very skilled at keeping his true nature hidden. But he was best at gaslighting and manipulation. I know there have been movies about an abusive husband who convinces everyone that his wife is crazy while he plays the role of the caring husband. He gaslights everyone to the point he’s able to have her committed involuntarily and she has to fight to prove that he’s actually the crazy one, etc. That guy is my husband. Not literally, as in having me committed, but he’s that type of guy who is cunning and calculated and feels no guilt or shame when he blatantly lies and manipulates. By the time I left him, I felt abjectly worthless. Really, truly worthless. It’s the such a lonely and hopeless feeling and before I left I no longer cared if I woke up each morning or if I died in my sleep. I just couldn’t gaf about it. He’d successfully whittled down any confidence or independence I ever had to almost nothing. Then when I finally got the strength to leave, he did everything in his power to turn everyone against me and to leave me destitute. He didn’t succeed but not for lack of trying. I fought hard. Every day away from him was another step towards learning to be me again. Before I even left I found a therapist. I’d never had any kind of therapy but my primary concern was my kids and I went initially because I thought it might help me better navigate the divorce to cause them as little damage as possible. My feelings of worthlessness and uselessness were of concern too. I didn’t know if it would help any but figured it couldn’t hurt. I’m so glad that I did. Just having an educated neutral person to speak to about everything my ex had been doing to me was a massive weight off my shoulders. I had friends I vented to, of course, but having a professional validate that the things I described were definitely emotional abuse was like the sunny coming out on a rainy day. Sorry for the long post. I really just wanted to suggest that if your son isn’t in therapy or hasn’t considered it, I very much recommend it. People like our exes do damage to us in ways that we don’t even see sometimes. That damage doesn’t always heal with time and distance. I’ve been divorced for 6 years and I just married my current husband a few months ago. I know without a doubt that if I hadn’t dealt with what happened to me, I would’ve brought some of that baggage to my new marriage. I sincerely wish your son continued healing! Those of us have experienced this type of abuse know how deeply the scars go. It’s not easy but he got away from her, that’s the most important part.

I am so sorry Tony . My husband was abused by his ex wife. She was always threatening suicide. She called him bad name every word for homosexuality you can think of. She pushed and pushed. He broke every dish in the house. She met someone online. Married him that lasted 5 years. I have been married to him since 2017. I have built him up again. Given him freedom to be himself. He was such an introvert. I coaxed him out of his shell. I am a happy extrovert. We laugh a lot. It’s joy to have a good person. I wish him the best.

This really hits me hard. I'm going through abuse right now. I'm not as old as this guy and am getting out before it escalates any further. It started not so bad, a little name calling, some shoving here and there but it consistently escalated to the point my life has been threatened twice and I have had an sorts of things thrown at me and held above me menacingly. My experience has been it's very hard to accept that I am a victim,I don't really like that label but the more I see and hear the account of others the more I have come to understand that I am indeed in an abusive marriage and it is not my fault. I will not accept the guilt and manipulation anymore and if you are in a similar situation neither should you.

Yes my brother was arrested. She had a bruise that she probably got hitting the edge of the counter. In the photo they had to draw a line around it point with a pen. My brother was 6’3” she was less than 5 ft. If he’d ever hit her she’d have been in a hospital. He ask her for a divorce there youngest child was 16. Her friends told her if she went to the battered women’s shelter they’d get her a lawyer. He never hit her she hit him.

I endured that same sort of abuse for the first 18 years of my life - but as a child there was no one to call. I’d been singled out as the one child who was hated by everyone from parents to siblings to extended family. Looking back now I understand that I became the family scapegoat and the place where everyone else could take out their violence, hatred and sexual fantasies. I’m deeply relieved to hear this fellow has a friend and that he managed to break free from his tormentor.

Happened to me. I put up with it for 20 years, then I came home to see her physically abusing our 7 year old son. That made me leave. 6 years later she attacked her live in boyfriend who strangled her. My boy was 13. He barely remembers his mom. I'm thankful that the last time we saw her she was clean and living in a group home. That's where she met her murderer. I am still so conflicted as I know that she instigated the fight. . . I just don't know, I feel different on days.. I've been in therapy for severe PTSD ever since, going on 30 years now. My religion did not allow for divorce. I still feel shame though I know I shouldn't. I keep it a well guarded secret. Why did it take 20 years to leave ? Even after she shot at me I stayed. Since then I've become a very dominate person. I won't allow being intimidated. When it happens , and it does, I'm instantly triggered, ready and eager to take it all the way on the spot . . .all the way. Done some bad things to assholes. Very bad space to be in every day. Terrible survivors guilt, I was not there to save her that time. I had to choose, I chose to save my son.

In Michigan (USA) my husband was abusing me. My daughter called the police & they told me they would have to arrest BOTH of us if anyone was getting arrested. Even though I NEVER hit him or abused him, they said both parties would go to jail so the judge could sort it out later. I did NOT want to go to jail! I had kids at home! So I told them to leave.

Fellow survivor here, i stayed with my abusive ex boyfriend for 8 years. It took me that long to get enough strength to get out. The most hurtful thing you can hear is 'you stayed 8 years, couldn't of been that bad', when you're in that cycle, like this man was, you start to fall down a deep abyss. On December 26, at 3:am, i made sure he was asleep and slipped out of bed as quietly as i could. My heart was beating so hard in my chest that i thought for sure he could hear it, i slipped on my jacket as quickly and quietly as i could. When i looked up, he was standing at the bedroom door down the hall with the lights out, my adrenaline kicked into high gear and i ran for the door down the stairs to get to my car. When i got to my parent's house, the next day my dad told me he had no idea how i made it. When i asked why, he told me that one of my tires was almost flat and driving on a deserted highway in a bad snowstorm, it was a miracle i didn't get into an accident or worse. It's been almost 6 months now, and i'm still working on my confidence, but i'm getting there. It shatters me that men go through this and are afraid to say something because they think either no one will believe them, or think that they're weak. I got news for all those abused men out there, you are NOT weak, you are the strongest person out there because you made it, we are survivors and together, we are strong. I had to watch my brother suffer mental and physical from his first wife. He finally got away. I have a friend who put up with verbal and mental abuse which eventually became physical. It took him over 30 years to get out. I don’t think people realize how incredibly cruel women can be. I watched my own mother push, push, push my dad until he would snap. She would wake him up at 3am with a perceived injustice. Ended up with a fist fight and she was always the “victim”. She was also extremely abusive to my brother and me. She had total control over all of us. These women need locked up. For life. There is no cure.

This is a real deal! I was in an abusive marriage for 20 years. Very similar to this one, but she never threatened me with a weapon except for throwing things at me. There were several things that went against me in the start. For one, people simply didn't believe me. She was very good at manipulating the story to make her look like the victim. Another thing, even though she would hit me with a closed fist in the face, she seldom left marks. It was just really hard to get people to believe me of what was really going on, which added to my frustration. One time, she hit me and broke my glasses, so I tried to call the police but she would grab the phone away from me. The problem here was that if I forced myself to get the phone then it would have appeared that I was the abuser. Also, I tried leaving but she would stand in front of the door. If I would have moved her out of the way, then again, I would have been the abuser. I finally got out and drove to a nearby police substation. Working at the front desk was a female officer. After I told her the story while crying, and showed her my broken glasses and red face, she asked me what I did to cause her from doing that! I couldn't win from losing. This is just one of many stories. Eventually, pastors and councilors started seeing what was really going on, but she never fully took responsibility for it. I finally just gave up. It wasn't always bad because the abuse would come in waves. However, after several years, something inside of me died. I don't know what that was but it was an emotional numbness. I came to the point where I realized it was never going to end, so I made up my mind that I was never going to be treated like that again no matter what, which led to our divorce. Now, I am happily married again and have been living a joyful peaceful life with my best friend and soul mate for 7 years. It has taken me a long time to heal from it and I am not quite sure I am completely recovered. Anyway, if you are ever in a relationship like this, whether male or female, get out of it! It will destroy you and chances are, it won't get any better. I wouldn't be blessed with the wife I have now if I didn't divorce my abusive wife.

As a woman who went through 10 years of psychological violence, it is extremely difficult for outsiders to understand what it means to be in such a situation. I also often think "why didn't I just go?" but in the beginning you still have periods when you are so happy and you think "it probably won't happen again". But it happens again… and again and again and again… After my divorce, many years passed before I felt whole again. I went through severe depression and often thought about ending my life. I am now recovering and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but you become fragile and find it difficult to trust people again. TONY… You're amazing and I'm so glad you made it out alive. I hope you find yourself a fantastic girlfriend and live the rest of your life happily and full of love. You deserve it!

Abusers love bomb the victim, then when they know they're hooked the real personality comes out. The partner being abused hangs onto the good times and is fed a fantasy to keep them around, unless it's the other extreme of the abuser taking away the victims' freedom of movement and free will, then it becomes next level of evil. I've experienced the cycles from my parents' marriage, and you have my sympathy and admiration :) it might have taken longer, but you did get out. Your ex-partner doesn't control your future anymore, and that took a LOT of strength on your part to leave and stay gone. "But when its good its really good" this has become a major red flag for me. I've never lived in domestic violence and I can't say in my relationship we have these times where things are just so good and so happy. We have fun together and we have disagreements but the status of the relationship and our feelings remains neutral and doesnt fluctuate like that.

Thank goodness for Maxine being there for Tony and having such support from her. Tracy was a ticking boom waiting to go off and lucky for Tony he got out in time otherwise I feel he could have been another statistic. Male domestic abuse is more common than we realise and I hope more men reach out after seeing this video. I'm so glad he didn't have to go through Covid lock-down with her, what a blessing. I dont think we should feel sorry for him. He is a real man who now faces what he went through without pushing it down. There is nothing stronger than letting this all out. He deserves respect, not pity.

Live with the man for a year and come back and read your comment. Its easy to pass judgement from afar , and i dont agree with the woman and what she did, she could have left but she chose to stay, he could have left also before things got so bad. None of us know exactly what set this woman off but he also has had 2 previous marriages that didnt work out, talk to the exwives and let them tell their stories. He has to be part of the problem but we only see on camera what they want us to see. Reality could be a little different.
