I agree that the Australian forces, or more accurately the ANZACs, were and are legends, but not just because of this battle, they were legends since their exploits in WWI and from then onwards and still are legends today, and they never get the recognition they deserve.

Dear Dark , You may be slightly Redeemed! But the poor quality Click bait you were posting recently was Garbage. It’s with pleasure that I say Welcome back!!!😊 And as an Old NCO, I counsel, let’s not Ever Do Anything like that again! You run a lot of channels, Dark Sky’s, Dark Seas, Dark Doc’s etc… but never forget how much importance must be placed on facts and figures, descriptions and real life stories. Keep it simple, straightforward and fun to watch. Don’t overthink things or just make Fluff, that’s Garbage 2 high quality videos mean more than 5 junk content ones. And be sure to check the Video reflects your content. And slow down the time sprints of the pictures. Personal experience with Briefings in power point (long ago) makes me believe that slow transition is organized and that makes it fast! Chaos is unpredictable and unexpected and does nothing for the viewer. Except for them to back up and replay parts that should have been done better! Happy New Year!

Some of the Artillery from New Zealand, but more importantly, the New Zealand forward Arti observers offered to go with the Australians who didn’t trust the US forward observers or artillery, the observers used the US artillery to hit further out from the front line where the VC would likely be forming up for their attacks and directed the NZ and Aust artillery to target in close - some times within 50m , it was the observers that were vital as well as very well drilled artillery units using 105’s for close work and US 155’s for further away

Australians were correct in their approach, this is why Britain and Australia beat the Communists in Malaya, then there was the US fiasco.

According to what I have read the Australian Radar control system was operational for the entire battle, that is according to one of the signals intelligence regiment officers who was involved in the operation of the artillery and specifically the artillery radar system.

The Australians did not have to fight the big battles because the Americans and South Vietnamese were doing that part of the war. The Australians were tough and extremely good soldiers and they would have done well anywhere they were sent. If they had been where the Americans fought big battles against well trained, well equipped North Vietnamese Army with long range artillery they would have done like the Americans or be wiped out. To compare the Malay Emergency to Vietnam is just about as ignorant as you can be. Malaysia is a long Ismas and easily sealed off from supplies if any one wanted to help them which they didn't because they were already bogged down in Korea. There were so few enemy to fight they did not even call them a Army. They called them bandits. Vietnam had a massive long border with a highway system alongside it where huge convoys of trucks brought in millions of tons of supplies from China, Russia, and many other Soviet block countries. Our fiasco was letting politicians and the news media run the war. The people of South Vietnam suffered terribly while the people of the North who caused it all were not Llowed to be inconvenienced.

100% correct on the politicians and the news media. On several occasions the war was all but won and could have been over with a free Vietnam.
@timsparks1858
@timsparks1858 5 сағат бұрын
The Approach Brought on the Generals by politicians of Attrition instead of Taking North Vietnam itself was the decisive factor to close the war to Victory. War is taking their territory and holding it destroying their Army so it can't fight any more. Holding South Vietnam playing defense when the Enemy is on Offense is Nonsense.
@rtyrsson

@@timsparks1858 Twice it could have been won if the politicians had any will: after Tet and during/after Operation Rolling Thunder. But instead of following through, Kissinger sold South Vietnam out to make nice with the Chinese; and sold out Taiwan in the process.

The Brits were consulted and then mocked if I remember correctly. It's pretty common, the Brits didn't listen to the French at the beginning of WW1, the Americans didn't listen to the Brits beginning of WW2. The Brits refused to get involved in Vietnam, the Americans weren't going to listen to them.
