being a sucker for Death Game anime, I watched it, expecting something super edgy and paper thing but i'd watch anyways. Darwin's Game beat my expectation by actually caring about its main cast and making the protagonist likeable which is something i couldn't say for a lot of anime in the genre.

@@PORIO171 havent really watched the anime, but an avid reader of the manga imho i also got bored with the anime since it often used cut scenes to maximize the budget (which made each episode so, _so_ slow). the manga flows more naturally and the artstyle stays consistent. however, thats just a comment on the art one of my largest qualms in the anime is that they focused on the romantic subplot (glaringly obvious in ep 1) instead of the edgy supernatural worldbuilding it had at heart (seriously, what the hell was that action scene. atleast make their weapons clash or sth) initial viewing of jshk manga gave me servamp vibes (wacky shounen adventures but supernatural and magic) and i honestly wasnt expecting a romance between yashiro and hanako at all, which made the progress all the more sweeter (huge *oh my god, OH MY GOOOOD THEY KISSED* moment). it's easy to dismiss the romantic tension in the manga, see, bcs hanako just looks a touch manipulative and yashiro is portrayed adamant that he's not her type. trust me, shes really good at friendzoning his clingy-ness however, the anime spoils it by using a romantic filter in the get-go, which lessened its impact i think plotwise i dont really have much to say about the manga. it's a self indulgent read. they make it pretty, but the development is something we've seen before. the characters feel weightless, to me as an audience atleast. theres a couple moments that squeezed my heart, but thats mainly because the author really soldiered on and strayed in the outskirts of the yandere category, which is wild because they really _did_ that maybe in time, the author can make it a little less predictable. but until then, the series is great for the insanely gorgeous color palette it has

I'm watching most of the anime in this season including ID Invaded, Eizouken, and Toilet Bound Hanako. All of those anime are amazing, especially the first 2. However, Darwin's Game is my favorite of the season just out of preference. I look forward to the next episode of Darwins Game every week more than the anime mentioned above, which is impressive, because Eizouken and ID Invaded are easily the best of the season. I agree Kaname character progression is so enjoyable. He doesn’t keep crying and complaining about the situation he overcomes it. And unlike a lot of other main guy anime characters he doesn’t stay annoyingly innocent and becomes a complete badass which is what we want the mc to do.

I love watching Bofuri and Dawrwins Game at the same time. It's funny to see them both level up so quickly and form clans, and watch how different they are. And then of course, Darwins Game reminded me of Black Lagoon, so I rewatched the original season through while waiting for a few more episodes to be released. I like the Revy/Rock dynamic.

Kaname is probably the first MC in one of these death anime that actually develops from his absolute no killing rule. Also, I can tolerate his rule as he doesn’t enforce it on others and he doesn’t just sit around and rely on others to do everything for him. It took me three tries but this anime won me over.

@@franciscorendon2783 I disagree. Yes, there are an awful lot of pop culture references, but that's not inherently a bad thing. That's just its shtick, to explore a world where all the fantasies we've enjoyed are brought to life. To me, that's like playing a licensed game, like one of the Arkham series of games, and complaining it has references throughout the game to the Batman lore not covered in the game. Or horror having horror tropes. And just saying something has fanfiction-levels of writing doesn't mean too much, since there's an extremely wide range in the skill of fanfic writers. I would disagree with the sentiment, though. Because while the writing style doesn't challenge the reader, it's not like it was ever so hackneyed as to be difficult to interpret. As for saying that it doesn't have any substance? You're going to have to substantiate that claim. I can think of a few areas of substance without even trying. But you made the claim first, so defend it.

Noone talks about this, but the fake mobile game in "Darwin's Game" ripped off the UI from the Shin Megami mobile game almost 1 to 1. It's funny since the fake game in the Shin Megami game is also a game that let's you partake in the hidden battles in the real world. Coincidence? I think not!

I know. The S.O.B. writer, like in attack on titan, actually somehow sticks the worldbuilding landing. Even from such a bonkers premise, the writer eventually gets around to making most everything make sense, and you get the feel that it was all planned out from the beginning. I suspect, this story was outlined and a road map was made before the story got started and penned.

reminds me of the dice that changed everything, where the MC is trying to save everyone, and stop the person behind the game and what later becomes a death game, but it starts with just upgrading stats, and eventually abilities.

The manga adds an extra layer of depth that the anime hasn't touched upon and I think it's worth it for those who wish to get a little bit more out of DGame. Is this a perfect anime or hell, even a top rated one? No of course not. But it's fun to watch and ultimately, as Reggie from Nintendo used to say, if it's not fun why bother? It's an enjoyable, simple anime to watch and enjoy, great character development at least for the first arc, and if you follow the manga well, it gets really weird let's just say.
