The sympathy you show for the people in the city and how emotional you got when the attack was going on is why we watch. Most people were just amazed at the special effects and how cool it looked. You see horror and the human cost in those scenes. Never change. To answer your question. Yes, Area 51 is a real place. It is also known as Groom Lake or Homey Airport. It is a highly classified military base. You won't get anywhere near it unless you work there. It is one of the places where the military tests new plane designs and weapons.

This movie is sponsored by Norton Antivirus. Main take away: never plan an invasion without having a good antivirus installed. XD In Spain the marketing campaign for this movie was awesome. They gave the news of huge spaceships showing up in New York and other american cities on TV during the news bulletins as if they were real. There was a small disclaimer on one corner saying "advertisement", but many people believed it anyway and called the authorities, simillar to what happened with the War of the Worlds during the 1930´s.

Area 51 is a thing, and it's definitely something secretive, but whether it has anything to do with aliens is, um, open to question. Area 51 is where the US tests the aircraft it doesn't want anyone to know it has. It is where they tested the U-2, SR-71, and F-117. To break it down more, Terrestrial basically means of Earth, Terra being the roman goddess of the Earth, like Gaia was the Greek version. Extra means without, outward, as in the opposite of within, inward. So Extra Terrestrial means beyond/outside the earth... ie Alien (even though the word alien doesn't actually mean alien as we use it, but just the strange or unfamiliar which is why a person from another country can be called an illegal alien).

Extraterrestrial is combination of two words. In this case, the "extra" means "outside of" and "terrestrial" means "of or pertaining to earth or its inhabitants" . That word comes from Terra, which is the Latin word for Earth. So the word basically means "something from outside of earth" or alien in this case. SETI is a real organization too. 22:30 This was filmed on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. "That smell" he was so bothered by was probably the 28 billion dead brine shrimp (sea monkeys) in the Great Salt Lake. Area 51 has a lot of myths and rumors about it. The truth is probably closer to it being a testing base for technology, like stealth fighters, or a base where they take captured aircraft from other nations to test them and see what they are capable of. So, in the 70's if the US got hold of a Russian MiG-25, it would probably end up there. IF (big if) there was a captured alien craft, it would be reasonable to take it there.

I can’t go back in time and watch this movie for the first time again (and it was so very long ago), but watching you experience it for the first time is the next best thing. I’ve since watched this movie about a million times. It’s one of my all time faves. But I know the film inside out through repetition. The jump scares no longer make me jump. The sad parts no longer have the same impact. Seeing your reactions brings back memories of how I reacted the first time I saw this. So, thank you for helping me relive those experiences. Awesome reaction to an awesome film.

The idea behind any Independence Day is to become independent as opposed to serve another. The proper term for this movie would be Survival Day -as the Aliens clearly did not want to rule us. They said that all they wanted from us is "To die." But it is a kick-ass movie! :)

@38:45, I heard that during the filming of the alien mother ship scenes, Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum had to have several retakes. The reason why is that they couldn’t stop laughing. To them the thought that they Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum would play the guys sent on a mission to save the world was hysterical.

Great reaction to one of my favorite movies! I went to see it in a theater way back when it was new and was blown away by the awesomeness! It was around the same time we got the F/A-18 Hornets (the US Fighter planes) here in Finland as well and remember a news article saying that we're prepared for aliens to arrive now.. The sequel could be better, but it has some cool stuff in it, too.. Anyway, have a great 2022! And, I hope you'll get into The Expanse this year! In my opinion it's amongst the, if not the best sci-fi shows out there!

That speech that President Whitmore gives at the airfield is one of the most inspiring I've ever heard. The massive fire waves preceding the ships entering the atmosphere is literally the sky on fire, as you said. Due to their propulsion technology, energy shields, and advanced hull materials, they don't HAVE to calculate perfect re-entry (or in this case, just 'entry') angles to reduce friction and heating, they can just go straight in without worrying about all that. I feel like you'd also like Battle: Los Angeles, and Battleship, similar alien invasion films.

Priviet Dasha you look fantastic today. Great cast in this. I highly suggest your patrons vote on having you watch "The Jackal" with Bruce Willis, Jack Black, Sidney Poitier, and Richard Gere. The man with the raspy voice was the makeup artist in Mrs. Doubtfire. Will Smith's girlfriend in this is Vivica A. Fox from Kill Bill as one of the squad members. Will's buddy in the locker room is country singer Harry Connick, Jr. There are plenty of documentaries and shows about Area 51. I personally like a segment from Unsolved Mysteries with Robert Stack about the origins of it. Btw, the nerdy long silver haired scientist is Data from Star Trek. The general is Robert Loggia from the films Big with Tom Hanks as Mr. MacMillan and the stepfather in Over The Top with Sylvester Stallone. President's wife is Mary McDonnell from Dances With Wolves with Kevin Costner.

The ships in this movie positioned themselves directly over the Empire State Building in Manhattan, the White House in Washington, DC(District of Columbia, in case you're curious), and what is now the US Bank tower in Los Angeles. Judging from this, they likely positioned themselves over the major important buildings or known landmarks of each city. Parliament in London, and the Kremlin in Moscow, as likely examples. More general examples of cities first hit by these ships would be Paris(France), Berlin(Germany), Prague(Czechia/Czech Republic), Toronto(Canada), Tokyo(Japan), Sydney(Australia), and Beijing(China). Major population centers and the capitals of each country. Which is exactly what I would do if I were an extraterrestrial who came to invade and conquer the planet.

True we can achieve more if we work together but realistically, we wouldn't stand a chance defeating that alien race with their level of tech and defeating them with a computer virus seems laughable for anyone that understands tech being as the alien computer system is likely so different than ours that we wouldn't even know where to start, also, do they not have advanced virus protection? lol. The movie is a feel good movie about humans and what we can achieve but that's about it and if the same was to happen in real life, we would be screwed unless we managed to get in contact with another alien race that's a enemy to that one.

@@paul1979uk2000 I believe in a deleted scene they explain why they are able to interface with the alien computers so easily, is because modern operating systems and such were reverse-engineered from the alien ship at A51. I feel like that explanation shouldn't have been cut, but whatever :P

@@lordmortarius538 That would make sense, they had decades to work on it and really, they should have left that scene in to explain that, but still, I find it far-fetched that the alien race couldn't work around that quickly that it wouldn't be a threat, tech advancement usually advances in all areas but clearer that wasn't the case in movie as it's highly unlikely we would brake into their computers using decades old hardware that we didn't create against newer computers on the alien ships that they know how to use. You would think they would have an antivirus checker or something lol, but it's just a movie to make humans feel better than we actually are and not based on reality of how things would go which is something like this, humans get wiped out, the earth gets mined, the end, that's how the movie would really end in real life.
