I was 260 for years. I stayed big from my college football days. At 39 I decided to just cut down. I am at 220 now and much leaner. Less muscle and strength for sure but I feel a lot better than I did at 260. I'm going to be 42 soon. I don't regret dropping the size, though I thought I might. It's difficult because it becomes part of who you are, but I have no regrets.

I'm fifty two, and lift for strength. I'm more muscular than I've ever been. I never lifted in my twenties and thirties. I started going to the gym in my forties. I am against drugs. There are a couple older guys at my gym who are doing great, can't speak to their natty status, I don't ask but they're not huge. I think all of us should just train as best we can as not training leads to aging faster. But yes, we need to be realistic. I'm not gonna win wsm under 80kg. Can't even compete but I'm strong enough. And I enjoy it.

It’s pretty much the same thing that you did. You got out of Dodge as soon as you got what you wanted and now you’re focusing on maintaining your health and wellness. I give you and Bautista a lot of credit for that. In terms of the negativity, you have every right to block those trolls from your page. You don’t have to put any of this information for any of us to look at. And I know that I definitely appreciate all the videos you make and informative content that you put out there for folks to understand. @WenningStrength You are supposed to get wiser as you age....not more naive. Mike is certainly an extreme outlier however, he deflects direct questions about PED usage. He could easily take tests showing his blood work but he doesn't. That speaks volumes. Yes, he will take it to the grave with him as it's been lucrative for him. I don't disagree with that decision because of the potential consequences otherwise if he were to come clean.

@LFSJR.Ай бұрын
First off I really like and appreciate the KZbin videos. Second, I’d like to see you address a similar topic regarding weight. Maintaining optimal weight has always been an issue for me. I can put on an extra 10 - 20 pounds if I commit to it, but that requires a lot of eating and I just don’t feel that good doing so. I’m almost 44, about 6’, and weigh between 178-183. That range helps my joints and I’ll sacrifice a small amount of strength for a good knee. My diet is clean, but I’m trying to find how to best maintain the mass and strength I have today to sustain a healthy lifestyle as I get older.

Matt, I've been following you since either 2018 or 19, and it amazes me that your channel hasn't blown up. Yes, sometimes you can come across as a bit arrogant, but your accomplishments both physically and educationally have EARNED YOU THE RIGHT TO BE! Frankly, for somebody with your pedigree, I wouldn't trust them if they didn't have a degree of cockyness to them. If I had 1 critique, it seemed until the last year or 2, you might not have realized your audience is as diverse as it is. It seemed like you mostly focused on super hard-core powerlifters (absolutely shocking considering your background...). That being said, even from day 1 all of your content has been super educational and has helped me and many friends be better (and moreso safer) lifters. I've bought your manuals and they're spectacular! Your channel should be the gold standard for the whole fitness industry and really highlights what's wrong with 99% of the others that post similar content. Keep being awesome!

@@WenningStrength I'm talking more of your older videos. The ones now are perfectly fine (in my humble opinion at least). Besides, even if you 100% focused on hard-core power lifters, there's still PLENTY the casual gym-goer can learn from you. Nothing wrong with that at all!
@daltonmason62Ай бұрын
@@WenningStrength besides, you ARE a hard-core powerlifter. Don't deviate from your Forte just to appease the masses. Too many people do that and while well intentioned, it can end up coming across as fake. If people can't see past that, they're the problem, not you.

Mobility, endurance, strength, grip are what I’m concerned with. Sandbags are a great tool for me. Lifting a 150lb bag off the floor to shoulder is phenomenal for me. The reps and gains come slowly, but do come. Bottom line, train for longevity, function, and peace of mind.

For everyday life, great strength is not required. Muscle and cardiovascular endurance are more important, especially after forty. Perhaps calisthenics is more suitable because it does not require a lot of body weight. Pull-ups, push-ups, long walks. My father is 77 years old and he does 40-50 push-ups every day in one set
