I totally feel Dave here. Almost everything I play and listen to nowadays has double bass. I've been playing drums for 20+ years since I was like 12 but have yet to attempt playing a double bass pedal. It trained me to be able to pull off some crazy stuff with a single pedal but I really want to try it out. Having 18 screws in my left foot is really whats kept me away from it honestly but I still want to give it a shot.

I’m in a similar spot to you, although I’m mainly a “guitarist that plays drums”, but I’ve played very little double kick over my life. Every time I try it, it just feels off for me, and I honestly don’t play much music that I would use it in. However, I have really wanted to try that “Duallist” pedal, which is a single double kick pedal. It has a little switch on it that allows you to use both beaters with one single pedal. Basically it triggers the second better when you lift up your foot. So you can actually play double bass parts with a single pedal. It might be something you should look into if you’ve got trouble with your left leg because of all the work you’ve had done. I know it sounds a little gimmicky, but it could totally be worth checking out.
