Oh, Ms. Bauer! I, too, have flubbed a funeral… as the pastor… including calling the deceased by the wrong name throughout because I had the program from the previous funeral. I thought I was doing a smashing job. It felt familiar, until the widow stood up and said, “Pastor, Mrs. Wilson’s funeral last week was lovely. When are we going to start Roy’s?”

Really cheap, unpleasant attempt at scoring laughs. Memories of the relative being kind, witty, sweetly forgetful, etc - no - but literally laughing AT somebody because of their body. Ugly. And to do it in front of people who were distraught and loved him, unlike Helen... I wrecked the day, she says in surprise. Given her age and size, she may well rival her mother's cousin at death. I guess at that point, she would expect people to just point and laugh at her. That'll be her act.
