David B. Haight's Near-Death Experience: Witnessing the Savior's Ministry

I was on my mission serving in Murray Ut a few months after the Utah SLC mission was formed in 1975 and living in the same ward as Elder Haight was in and on a Sunday sacrament meeting he was on the stand and invited us to come up and sit by him. He then asked me if the members were supporting the missionary effort and I told him they were but we could always use more support as most were not even aware a full time mission was happening in their midst. The Bishop asked Elder Haight if he wanted some time and he said of course…then had us stand up and implore folks to feed us and introduce us to their friends. It was Awesome!!!

As wonderful as this narration is, hearing it directly from Elder Haights own mouth is an amazing experience. The silence in the tabernacle is palpable. It’s available to hear in the gospel library app. October 1989 General Conference.

@TheWordsofChrist Understand, but NDEs are long out of the closet and certainly some need to be kept private because they are too sacred, private, etc. I believe the admonition to gain wisdom from the "best books" is applicable to digital content as the spoken word. Some of these ideas, generate valid insights, just as with pondering the written word. There are thousands of valid experiencers stories of face to face contact with Jesus. Many believe these accounts, while trolls mock. Nothing new in this regard, so possible mocking of NDEs is the same mockery of written word or general conference talks, yet we openly have these. I would also speculate these insights may also even be in lost scriptures of pages or books, because they exist in the ones we have.

It is truly amazing to realize that the Lord is near and that He loves us. If we remember Him, as we promise each week when we partake of the sacrament, and if we keep His commandments and honor our covenants, we have no need to fear.

His granddaughter was in my seminary class when I was a junior at Skyline High School in Salt Lake City. My teacher, Brother Bliss Roberts invited David B Haight to talk to us. He came and talked! I passed him in the hall when he was heading to our class room and didn’t recognize him because he was older than his picture I’d seen. When he got up to walk up front from the back of the room, I was in the front, I was shocked!
