To all that either condemn or can't grasp why David died from an addiction, this comment is for you. Very few people can comprehend what it is like to be what he was in his prime. David's fan club was larger than the Beatles and Elvis combined. His prime years were spent working 16 hours a day, touring, recording and trying to hide. David's dad also had addiction issues, for those that are educated, they will understand what that means. When David's dad died in a house fire, this decimated David to the core of his being. I can go on and on. Try to implore critical thinking when wondering why the following died so young. Elvis, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, David Cassidy, Dennis Wilson, Jimmy Hendrix, and dozens of others. David actually lived longer than most other Musical legends as he was not into drugs and tried many times to beat his addiction. So, the critical question is: Why do so many musical legends that burn their way deep into our hearts die so young? The only way to know the answer to that is to be one of them. Imagine every member of the public wanting to jump on you when you step outside, or the absolute euphoria of tens of thousands of people screaming while you perform and you have to keep satisfying them at a pace so intense that your body cannot keep up with it. Imagine losing ALL privacy, then mix in a heaping portion of human frailty and the incredible temptations that come into play 24/7. Finally, imagine asking yourself whether or not someone can love you for WHO you are and not WHAT you are. That is just the tip of the iceberg. David's last words before he passed were, "So much wasted time." Now you have some food for thought. Many legends that gave up everything to make it to the pinnacle of their profession often learn that the true joys of life were right there in front of them when they were just like you and me.

I can't imagine. I tried to have a drink wit someone once, who was well known, and it got so bad, one hr. And I think we had maybe two sentences wit people wanting pictures, autographs, to just take a minute that took more. I can't imagine when they are that young starting. The pressure was unreal from all that I read on David Cassidy. No wonder he never had a permanent relationship.

David Cassidy was one of the most iconic figures in music and show business history. The man oozed with talent, much like his father. David sang, danced, performed on stage, acted on television. He basically did it all and then some. He should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and noted as one of the greatest talents in American history if not world history. He belongs with all the greats. I saw him in concert once. It's a shame his life and it's so tragically, but like most famed people of Hollywood, they are never managed properly even though they've made millions of dollars for people. That's a crying shame. I can feel your heartbeat, I'll meet you halfway and I think I love you our remarkably his greatest hits. Truly a remarkable individual. He was the biggest teen idol that ever existed and no one can match his talent.

All these comments from David Cassidy's adoring fans here really warm my heart. For as long as I can remember, David Cassidy was a hearthrob. All the girls loved him and I understood why. I was just 9 years old when The Partridge Family debuted on TV, and 13 years old when it ended. For myself, and a lot of other young boys, David Cassidy/Keith Partridge was a role model. David was an extremely talented performer, and obviously a very good looking young man. As Keith Partridge he was the funniest, coolest, most natural teenaged character on television. He was a triple threat talent. David toured the world, and some of you saw him in concert. I can't imagine what it was like to be the # 1 teen idol on the planet, but David Cassidy lived that life. A lot of rock stars may not admit it, but everyone wanted to have the exact same hairstyle that Keith Partridge had. That feathered hair was everywhere in the Los Angeles rock scene in the 1970's and 80's. When I heard David passed away I sent a Tweet of condolence to his half brother Shaun Cassidy, and Shaun actually wrote me back and thanked me. Ladies, some hard rock musician dudes and male rock fans may be too shy to say that this amazing teen idol David Cassidy was their hero. I'm not too shy to say it. We miss David Cassidy too girls. He was very very special and we're really sorry for your loss. God Bless Him.

What a guy!! David will be a legend, like Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Marilyn Monroe, Annette Funicello, Sandra Dee, Bill Bixby, Bert Reynolds, Robin Williams, and my list could go on and on. I had you picture on my wall, when I was young, David. You were special, we girls could sense it. You were so dreamy and seemed the perfect boyfriend. So sweet, sensitive and the perfect gentleman. Shirley would not have allowed you to be nothing less. Ah, the many fantacies I had about you. We girls did not want to even picture your problems with being overwhelmed with fame. Just know we really loved you back then, and still do. I feel sorry for you that you had to turn to drinking to fight your demons. May you be at peace now. See you in Heaven, David.

I saw David Cassidy in his Broadway debut in 1983 in the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical "Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat." I was 25, my girlfriend was 22, and it was only the second time we went into NYC together. We had great seats--somewhere in the first 10 rows--and as he sang one song in the show, David had to come down the aisle and shake hands. We had aisle seats, and he shook my hand and my girlfriend's hand. Her face lit up into a beautiful smile--we had grown up watching "The Partridge Family" and were both fans (I was 12 when it first aired, and 16 when it ended, and every guy I knew wanted to be David Cassidy). During 9th and 10th grade, the group of friends I belonged to would sit in someone's basement and we'd play the albums. We knew every song, and the girls sang with Shirley and the boys sang with David. This was always my favorite ballad, and for years I thought of the girl I brought that night to Broadway whenever I heard this song (or sang it to myself), thinking that there'd "come a day," when we could say, "we can finally see each other" (again), and we would meet halfway.

Wow! DC was 53 yoa in this 2003 video. You don't think of your faves growing old. He looked so comfy & so at home on stage. He radiates so much happiness he practically glows! His skin is so translucent. His little giggles & the way he sways & lovingly strokes his guitar & how he plays with the audience shows he knows he still got it. He's lost his boyish looks & he is no longer gorgeous, but he is still fine looking. His voice is perfection. Ditto his band & his backup singers. It makes me happy to see him like this, but also sad to know he is suffering. But DC as a true professional knows the show must go on. THANK YOU for many years of music - past, present & future. RIP David Bruce Cassidy [Apr 12,1950-Nov 21, 2017]. 😇🙏😿💔🌹

Addiction is something that one is walked by him or herself. It is not an easy path and it is a struggle. We all have our own path to deal with and for some it is easy and others while they struggle with the realities of life is very hard. David was a very good musician and song writer. He had a talent that was great. No one is perfect. We all have demons to work with and some more than others. Addictions is a real struggle in life and it is not an easy path. He was human being that gave us a gift some survived our own demons in life with his music. Which some saved my life just to hear it. Reality is a bitch at times. Just remember that he gave what he could and dealt with life along the way. Life is but a moment in time and may we all just remember the music and songs that he gave us and not dwell on the demons that he had to deal with. If he was trying to deal with the addiction and he admitted to them. This is a man that at least knew what he was dealing with, and tried. No one knows what addiction is like or depression is like if you judge him for his mistakes and not let it go. For both are real and at times can be very very hard to deal with. So let us Remember his Music and songs that he gave us. A great man. Thank you god for letting us know a little about him through his music. God bless you.

Genuine joy and happy expressions being exhibited there on that stage. Probably David's best performance in my opinion.

When David was no longer a teen idol he seemed happier when singing…performing. I would like to think that when he was older he appreciated his great gifts/talents and having the ability to bring joy to others.

I grew up watching David Cassidy on the partridge family in the very early 70s. I try to explain to my own grown up children just how unbelievably popular he was. The way I explained it was imagine every teenage girl that you went to school with having pictures of him in their locker in their bedrooms and even on the binders he was everywhere and the undisputed King of all the teen idols without the help of social media

This is when he started looking like his father, actor Jack Cassidy. Pop Jack was once acclaimed as "the best looking man in Hollywood."

@@57andstillkicking David was certainly more hip looking for his generation. Jack got a bit hip himself in the 60s and 70s, but still had to wear a toupee.

Love you David !!!! When your spirit was free like here , goodness did you soar ! Miss you much ......these beautiful songs crafted in the studio and branded "the Partridge Family" were the soundtrack to my early life. All tailored to Cassidy's beautiful voice and backed by some of the best session singers and musicians of that era. I am so grateful that I grew up when I did and treasure those memories to this day. We will all meet again ........if but "halfway" to Heaven !

When I was a kid ,on the school bus all the girls had the magazine Tiger Beat and all the way to school they all talked about David.... And all the boys secretly wanted to be him. Boy when he was good he was really good, like in this performance. I just cant believe the two biggest idols of my youth are gone Davey Jones and David Cassidy..and with little fanfare. What a Time It Was and I (we) Were luck to have witnessed it and to have been a part of it. I

David, the eternal rocker wannabe, coming to terms with his teeny-bopper sugary past. So much talent not fully recognized just because of the kind of music he played. If he just have sung adult rock, he would have been inducted into the RRHF already.
@nspector

Yes, he could have done many other kinds of music, and actually did at different times. But this is what made him money. I don't agree that they are "sugary," though, nor only "teeny-bopper" songs. May not be your taste, but they are very well written pop songs. Nothing wrong with that. Not sure what "adult rock" means.

It's hard to believe that when The Partridge Family show first started they dubbed in his parts on the songs. Then they found out he could sing and the rest was history. Nothing made my pre-teen heart beat faster than seeing a new Tiger Beat magazine on the shelf with his picture on the cover. I felt like I'd lost a friend when I heard that he'd died. Such a talented performer who was gone much too soon.
