In Episode 6 of the Lifespan podcast, Dr. David Sinclair and co-host Matthew LaPlante discuss cosmetic aging and how to improve skin, nails, and hair. They talk about why superficial aging occurs and how external signs of aging are often a reflection of biological age. The latest science behind various beautifying therapies is highlighted, including newer interventions like low-level laser therapy and platelet-rich plasma injections.

People often tell me that I don't look my "age" (in my 50's). I pay attention to eating (organic, mostly vegetables) , exercise regularly, don't drink alcohol, don't smoke, take supplements and use organic skincare products. David Sinclair speaks volumes of truth for anti-aging in this video and appreciate his scientific logic.

It's all just randomly down to the individual (mostly). I do some of the things you do except I eat mostly meat and don't take any supplements and don't use organic skin products. Great show. I have been using 1-Skin for a year and have noticed a difference in my skin. At 77 years old, my Pinch Test is very quick. I started taking NMN 3 years ago and noticed my hair getting brown again. This is increasing. Now I take 2 gm of NMN most days (i figure I am older and need all the help I can get) and walk 5-10 miles almost every day, with some HIIT. I'd be very interested in an update on Dr. Sinclair's father's journey. These shows are excellent - much better than many interviews with often clueless interviewers.

Regarding PRP, this is a very lovely treatment that can be done to rejuvenate the face as well, specifically when mixed with bio-stimulators like Sculptra aka Plasmasculpt ( shoutout to Dr. Rajani-also here on KZbin). But PRF is even better for hair, skin, and bodily rejuvenation. It’s also used in Dental surgeries. The Platelet rich Fibrin has a lot more growth factors and the results are so much better. I’ve had them both done locally. To get the Fibrin you simply spin the blood slower and for a shorter amount of time at the right angle. You then inject the fluid before it fully clots. Once you have a clot you can spread it across the face/scalp and micro needle it in. These treatments are A-MAZING for rejuvenation.

@@bt9124 For me peri-menopause was a nightmare. I went in search of a solution, being initially wary of HRT. But reading medical papers and evidence that BHRT provides benefits with respect to immune function, tissue strength, and not to mention brain health sent me in search of a CYCLIC hormone provider. (IMHO, those giving women static dosages are doing them a disservice, if not weakening the hormones' abilities to function as the body intended.) But, that doesn't mean it hasn't been challenging to figure out what is correct FOR ME. I agree with Dr. Sinclair that women (in their 25th year, or so) should have their hormones tested daily for a month. This would provide a detailed view as to appropriate dosing after the age of 35. I am one of those with the opinion that many issues of aging in women may be managed with earlier progesterone treatment, especially with respect to sleep cycles, tissue repair, and (moods) brain function.

As a woman about the same age as David, this episode is of intense interest to me, but it covers a LOT of ground in a very short span and I’m hoping there are subsequent podcasts that go into a lot more detail. Not sure what is being recommended here in terms of hormone replacement for post menopausal women and confused as to other actionable takeaways. Hoping they slow all of this down and elaborate in subsequent podcasts that I just haven’t listened to yet! A Harvard professor is no guarantee for truth, as Harvard and other prominent universities proved to be very corrupted during the recent Covid pandemic. Sinclair continues the opinion of Ancel Keys about human nutrition, which is totally wrong. He is just an logoreic influencer.

Presently the available drugs for bone loss shut down/slow-down the osteo-clast function; cleaning up old/dead bone is just as important in the osteo-clast : osteo-blast cycle, is it not? Also, is NMN a possible usage? i.e. Dr. Sinclair's interview with Shawn Stevenson. Dr. Sinclair, thank you for what you do!

Thank you for including help for specifics on women's aging. So hard to find relevant info on it usually we are passed by as most studies in past did not include women because of our "difficult" hormones as we are usually told. Even if that's the problem women have more chronic illnesses and take most of the drugs made leaving us to play Russian roulette with whatever drugs we are given hoping they will work the same in us as a man. So bravo for including women's specific problems in you talks.

I have been on NMN and resveratrol for a little over two weeks now...and it is working. I track my blood pressure and blood sugar most days. Both have stayed stubbornly high over the last few years, probably mostly due to the fact that I have gained weight in the last few years. I am working on the weight but so far I haven't lost...but my blood pressure and sugar are both down. This morning my bp was 118/83 and blood sugar was 98. This is the lowest these markers have been...years. I am excited to see my progress as I lose weight and continue to improve my diet. Thank you Dr Sinclair!

Transient markers like these can't tell you if these compounds are "working". The only way we will ever know if they increase lifespan, which is what they are being used for, is if we can follow a large cohort of people both using and not using them, across many years, and compare the average life-span (or health biomarkers through end-of life years). If you are also altering your diet and exercise, you now have no idea which intervention is causing the drop in those numbers.
@barbarafairbanks4578
@barbarafairbanks4578 2 жыл бұрын
@@PinataOblongata Well, that said, e.g., 'following a large cohort of people' taking vs not taking NMN, for instance, thru their lifespan is an epidemiological pipedream... about as reliable as the 'transient markers' you are poo-pooing - even less so,more likely, bc one subject's evolving biomarkers vs a notoriously poorly tracked/controlled epidemiological 'study' of a large cohort (hundreds/thousands(?) couldn't really divulge all that much anyway (too many factors, including genetics), to obtain reliable data. I'd put my money on comparing my baseline biomarker data to a subsequent reading 6 wks later after making ONE change, i.e., adding in NMN OR resveratrol - or whatever - without making any other lifestyle/diet/supplement/environmental changes. Of course, if one is adding in a couple supplements and/or changing up their exercise routine or diet - their 'transient markers' are useless...that goes without saying, I agree. Though an improved biomarker profile cannot say much about lifespan, anyway. Possibly comparing a bio-age test before & after adding in something like NMN would give a better reading on how it's affecting our own life/healthspan?
@PinataOblongata
@PinataOblongata 2 жыл бұрын
@@barbarafairbanks4578 You are mixing up epidemiology with actual long-term controlled intervention studies. Epidemiology just looks at data from people who were living their lives as normal and tries to find a signal in that. There is no true intervention and control arm. Yes, it would be difficult to corral enough participants and have them follow their regime faithfully, but until that happens we simply can't make grand claims that can't be supported. I wouldn't discount a change in your average biomarkers over a longer period of time (which would iron out the contribution of other variables), but in a week or so and as we agreed, adding in other variables muddying the waters, not useful.
@barbarafairbanks4578
@barbarafairbanks4578 2 жыл бұрын
@Pinata Oblongata IIRC (w/o re- reading what I wrote previously), I never suggested adding in another factor in whatever timespan you've mentioned... a week?/a week or 2? (If this is what you're referring to as per what we 'agreed on',, i.e. a longer timespan, I'm unsure why you are mentioning again. Perhaps your re-agreeing, with this concept (of control). Can you please provide an example of the type of long-term 'controlled' study of a large demographic, traversing lifespan(s), (that I appear to have confused with epidemiological studies?)

NMN demonstrated multiple benefits such as fighting muscle degeneration in elderly men and women, aerobic capability, and increasing endurance. The results may vary from person to person. Personally, it has been my 3rd month of taking NMN by vitruvin, that's 500mg, and I love how it worked impressively. I wish many people would give a shot in taking NMN and start living a happy, balanced, and healthy life as they age!

VIBRATION from what I read vibration is highly effective. The secret is I don't do cr*p to my body. no botox, none of that. Just grateful for what I got . As I am listening to this I had NO issues with menopause. My memory is sharp, I'm very active cuz I LIKE to be active. Perhaps because I'm IRISH I like to lift weights. That is a big tip. weight lifting. Bicycling works for me and going to the BEACH set me right. Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar with Cinnamon is beneficial. OXALATES DID do something to my body. a while ago I made spinach, carrots, onion, celery soup with pasta elbows and used the water the veggies were cooked in for the soup broth. that I suspect created kidney stones. Unbeknownst to me especially spinach is high in OXALATES. Who knew eating right could do damage to your kidneys. please research OXALATES in your lab. With everyone drinking ALMOND MILK more people are going to damage their kidneys from drinking it. Almonds are high in oxalates. My skin pinch test went down in 2 sec. But, I’ve had both my Primary doctor and my Gyno tell me at 60, that I was getting too thin, and to “be careful”.
