People often tell me that I don't look my "age" (in my 50's). I pay attention to eating (organic, mostly vegetables) , exercise regularly, don't drink alcohol, don't smoke, take supplements and use organic skincare products. David Sinclair speaks volumes of truth for anti-aging in this video and appreciate his scientific logic.

It's all just randomly down to the individual (mostly). I do some of the things you do except I eat mostly meat and don't take any supplements and don't use organic skin products. Most people think I'm low 20's, even mistaken for a high schooler sometimes. I'm currently 40. They will never reverse aging, never. Great show. I have been using 1-Skin for a year and have noticed a difference in my skin. At 77 years old, my Pinch Test is very quick. I started taking NMN 3 years ago and noticed my hair getting brown again. This is increasing. Now I take 2 gm of NMN most days (i figure I am older and need all the help I can get) and walk 5-10 miles almost every day, with some HIIT. I'd be very interested in an update on Dr. Sinclair's father's journey. These shows are excellent - much better than many interviews with often clueless interviewers.

I have been on NMN and resveratrol for a little over two weeks now...and it is working. I track my blood pressure and blood sugar most days. Both have stayed stubbornly high over the last few years, probably mostly due to the fact that I have gained weight in the last few years. I am working on the weight but so far I haven't lost...but my blood pressure and sugar are both down. This morning my bp was 118/83 and blood sugar was 98. This is the lowest these markers have been...years. I am excited to see my progress as I lose weight and continue to improve my diet. Thank you Dr Sinclair!

Transient markers like these can't tell you if these compounds are "working". The only way we will ever know if they increase lifespan, which is what they are being used for, is if we can follow a large cohort of people both using and not using them, across many years, and compare the average life-span (or health biomarkers through end-of life years). If you are also altering your diet and exercise, you now have no idea which intervention is causing the drop in those numbers.
@barbarafairbanks45782 жыл бұрын
@@PinataOblongata Well, that said, e.g., 'following a large cohort of people' taking vs not taking NMN, for instance, thru their lifespan is an epidemiological pipedream... about as reliable as the 'transient markers' you are poo-pooing - even less so,more likely, bc one subject's evolving biomarkers vs a notoriously poorly tracked/controlled epidemiological 'study' of a large cohort (hundreds/thousands(?) couldn't really divulge all that much anyway (too many factors, including genetics), to obtain reliable data. I'd put my money on comparing my baseline biomarker data to a subsequent reading 6 wks later after making ONE change, i.e., adding in NMN OR resveratrol - or whatever - without making any other lifestyle/diet/supplement/environmental changes. Of course, if one is adding in a couple supplements and/or changing up their exercise routine or diet - their 'transient markers' are useless...that goes without saying, I agree. Though an improved biomarker profile cannot say much about lifespan, anyway. Possibly comparing a bio-age test before & after adding in something like NMN would give a better reading on how it's affecting our own life/healthspan?
@PinataOblongata2 жыл бұрын
@@barbarafairbanks4578 You are mixing up epidemiology with actual long-term controlled intervention studies. Epidemiology just looks at data from people who were living their lives as normal and tries to find a signal in that. There is no true intervention and control arm. Yes, it would be difficult to corral enough participants and have them follow their regime faithfully, but until that happens we simply can't make grand claims that can't be supported. I wouldn't discount a change in your average biomarkers over a longer period of time (which would iron out the contribution of other variables), but in a week or so and as we agreed, adding in other variables muddying the waters, not useful.
@barbarafairbanks45782 жыл бұрын
@Pinata Oblongata IIRC (w/o re- reading what I wrote previously), I never suggested adding in another factor in whatever timespan you've mentioned... a week?/a week or 2? (If this is what you're referring to as per what we 'agreed on',, i.e. a longer timespan, I'm unsure why you are mentioning again. Perhaps your re-agreeing, with this concept (of control). Can you please provide an example of the type of long-term 'controlled' study of a large demographic, traversing lifespan(s), (that I appear to have confused with epidemiological studies?)

Regarding PRP, this is a very lovely treatment that can be done to rejuvenate the face as well, specifically when mixed with bio-stimulators like Sculptra aka Plasmasculpt ( shoutout to Dr. Rajani-also here on KZbin). But PRF is even better for hair, skin, and bodily rejuvenation. It’s also used in Dental surgeries. The Platelet rich Fibrin has a lot more growth factors and the results are so much better. I’ve had them both done locally. To get the Fibrin you simply spin the blood slower and for a shorter amount of time at the right angle. You then inject the fluid before it fully clots. Once you have a clot you can spread it across the face/scalp and micro needle it in. These treatments are A-MAZING for rejuvenation.

To clarify, at 52:32, the quantity 9.8 to 15.8 nanomoles per liter is the optimal level for testosterone, and not dihydrotestosterone (DHT), correct? The study linked in the description says, "Testosterone (T) levels decline with age and lower T has been associated with increased mortality in aging men. However, the associations of its metabolites, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and estradiol (E2), with mortality are poorly defined." The only reference to "9.8 to 15.8" on the page says, "Instead, an optimal range of circulating total T corresponding to a range of 9.8 to 15.8 nmol/L (282-455 ng/dL) exists for older men, which predicts survival independent of other risk factors."

Nice conversation! As for Finasteride, from what I understand, is that Dutasteride is even more effective. I quote: "The main difference between finasteride and dutasteride is that finasteride is selective for type II 5AR while dutasteride inhibits both type I and type II. Dutasteride not only blocks both types of receptors but also does so much more effectively. This may be a result of the much longer half-life of dutasteride compared to finasteride (~4 weeks vs. 6-8 hours respectively). Dutasteride has been shown to be 3 times more potent than finasteride at inhibiting type II 5AR and more than 100 times at inhibiting type I 5AR. Furthermore, oral dutasteride decreases serum DHT concentrations by up to 90% while finasteride only reduces DHT by 70%."

Couldn't find topical nicotinamide, but found nicotinic acid. The internet says nicotinic acid is niacin. Is it true? They do have topical nicotinamide? Which one is more effective? 4. I think the right timing for HRT is key. I am 45 but have been on HRT for about a year. The results I have experienced are lowered blood pressure , change in appetite and food cravings to where I dont crave sugary snacks and imnot hungry through the day if I eat healthy meals. ThT said I have changed the way I eat and excluded manufactured oils fast food , and cut as much added sugar as possible. I've increased intake of whole foods and I never was one to eat fast food so that was easy. I cut out sodas years ago. If the outside is a reflection of the inside then things are going in the right direction. I also use oneskin daily with sunscreen. 365 days a year I use sunscreen. My dad has had skin cancer removed 2 times. he grew up in a time where they just didn't wear sunscreen like we do now.

I’ve just discovered this channel and Dr. Sinclair- he is fantastic. As a woman about the same age as David, this episode is of intense interest to me, but it covers a LOT of ground in a very short span and I’m hoping there are subsequent podcasts that go into a lot more detail. Not sure what is being recommended here in terms of hormone replacement for post menopausal women and confused as to other actionable takeaways. Hoping they slow all of this down and elaborate in subsequent podcasts that I just haven’t listened to yet! From prior podcasts I’m really clear that NMM, Resveratrol, Quercetin are great to take in the morning with a bit of fat - I’m on it!

Just recently learned about NMN plus other things. Am now almost 2 weeks into using NMN, TMG, Resveratrol, DHEA plus a few other things. Am 58, almost 59. I smoked tobacco for 45 years. Am overweight and have diverticulitis. I've been vaping instead of smoking tobacco for the last 7 years. Now, 2 weeks into supplements am going to try 2 rounds of P90X. The TMG seems to have cleared brain fog but that might also be combined with NMN. Anxious to see what this body can do over the next 180 days. Am 5'10", 224lbs. Was in pretty good shape 7 years ago. I did P90X,5 times and P90X+ once. After that I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis and haven't been able to do routine normally since. So went from 180 to 225. Anxious to see what I can do with these supplements. Exciting. Thanks for sharing all this info. Look forward to a better tomorrow.

Great video. Thank you so much. The thing I find confusing is the idea that thin and smaller people live longer. But, I’ve had both my Primary doctor and my Gyno tell me at 60, that I was getting too thin, and to “be careful”. They said that if you get really sick, being too thin can be bad, because your body has no fat stores to draw from, and also the increase of osteoporosis in older thin women. Why is it always ‘suffering’ through menopause? As someone who’s ‘survived’ I would suggest that it can be seen as a natural transition and a part of graceful aging.
@crh2512 жыл бұрын
Lori, I think some women truly do suffer. 20% of women breeze right through it. Their periods just stop. My mom was one of them. 60% of women have moderate issues, and the other 20% have their worlds turned upside down. They suffer horribly with anxiety, etc. They can be suicidal. Fortunately, I was one of the 60% of women. I did suffer from broken sleep, hot flashes, night sweats, heart palpitations, weight gain, night sweats, etc. for nine years. I’m post menopausal now and am glad most of it is behind me.

It sounds as if you were lucky. I got chronic migraine that requires emergency treatment over and over. The headaches were so severe that I had to stop working. The hot flashes were incessant - my clothes and hair stuck to me all the time. I had to wash myself down and change my clothes several times a day. The night sweats were so intense that my husband thought I was wetting the bed. Brain fog and mood swings made my life even more unpleasant. I suffered - there was nothing graceful about this. After nearly two years, including eight months in a chronic pain clinic, I raised a ruckus and demanded a female gynaecologist. She prescribed bioidentical estradiol and within two months the migraine and hot flashes were under control. I went back to school, earned two degrees, and now work in a job I love. Don't patronize and belittle women who genuinely suffer through menopause.

@@bt9124 For me peri-menopause was a nightmare. I went in search of a solution, being initially wary of HRT. But reading medical papers and evidence that BHRT provides benefits with respect to immune function, tissue strength, and not to mention brain health sent me in search of a CYCLIC hormone provider. (IMHO, those giving women static dosages are doing them a disservice, if not weakening the hormones' abilities to function as the body intended.) But, that doesn't mean it hasn't been challenging to figure out what is correct FOR ME. I agree with Dr. Sinclair that women (in their 25th year, or so) should have their hormones tested daily for a month. This would provide a detailed view as to appropriate dosing after the age of 35. There is a lot of misinformation too, and not everyone is up to date on current research or wants to be. There can be strong opinions on this topic.
