Loved by the players, and derided by the press, Days Gone never received the praise that it deserved. This game serves as a stark warning about industry gatekeeping the mainstream video game journalism racket.
Special thanks to Mario J. Martinez, Archangel, Jason T Barnes, Dean McGee, Steve, Alcoholistair, RageDMX47, Hector Salamanca, Corvo Fox-Gray, FatCat1, Anna Lovatt, Michael Pearce, ATR-42 and all of my Patreon supporters. Their stoic support humbles me.

Good stuff here. I'm not at all surprised the "major" "journalists" pretended like they covered the keylogging stuff. They typically use weasel words like "sources say", "the sentiment seems", "players reacted XYZ" so they don't have to actually do any work aside from briefly scrolling the comments section. Nothing new. Game looks good! Here's hoping it's up on Summer Sale. Thanks again.

Precisely. I didnt have time to go into this but that is precisely what they did here. "According to steam user ..." etc etc. Im guilty of using the same kind of vague phrases myself for legal "precision", but hopefully never to conceal a lack of evidence. This said, I did nearly fall for this trick this time and literally almost regurgitated the lies. My ass was saved by someone in the comments section. I hope you enjoy the game btw. Its not going to change the world, but hopefully it will change a few afternoons into pleasant ones!

If you want to tell if your game is data mining you just run this simple test: Does the game run better on inferior console hardware? If the answer is yes, then congratulations, your shiny new game is using you as a data mine (hint: consoles already have that data harvesting hardwired in, so they don't have to add that extra bloat to the code).

If I ever wind up working as a garbageman, I'll carry a length of pipe to smack each dumpster before picking it up. And yes, I'd like to think that I would get out of my heated truck cab every 2 minutes because I wouldn't be able to sleep again otherwise.

I first came across Witwer in The Force Unleashed, and it took me a while to begin to enjoy his talent. After a few hours, Days Gone has taken me from mild appreciation to sincere respect, and I'm going to be keeping closer tabs on the man. He's very talented, and I get the feeling he takes his work very seriously, and cares about story when most others just want a check and a trophy. I'm immensely pleased to be enjoying Days Gone with him at my side.

I remember "journalists" talking about how unrealistically extreme Copeland was, then watching an interview with the writer, where he talked about his mother was a co-founder of a survivalist group. Copeland is the most authentic character in the game, being based on the people he spent his childhood around. It was buried in a year of great games and is my 3rd favourite new IP, behind HZD & GoT. It had interesting characters, lore and ended on a cliffhanger. It desperately needs & deserves a sequel.

Another tip on top of your tip regarding petrol, and saving credits by fuelling up at a nearby station instead of camp: If the cost to replenish your ammo at the gun merchants exceeds 400 credits, fill up from your saddlebags (assuming you have them). One “unit” from your saddlebags will fill all ammo. One unit for your saddlebags costs 400 credits. Fill from your saddlebags and then just top up the saddlebags. The same is true in reverse. If you’ve only used 20 rounds (a few credits worth) don’t use a unit from your saddlebags because it’ll cost 400 to replace. I saved thousands.

Once again, thank you for the excellent advice. Oh, and in answer to one of your previous comments... I would probably go for something antiquated, simple and diesel. Like an old jeep or landrover. Ever since 21 recommended Kingdom Come Deliverance back in 2018 I knew I was in good hands. I still play that game and it's over three years old. Freaking phenomenal. Since that time there has not been a single gaming title that 21 has not been spot on about. If you get the games that he says are worthy of playing, you will end up with a great collection of titles on your shelf. And you'll avoid the AAA shit show in the process!

Agreed. I think its at great detriment to video games too. Most publishers these days are obsessed about pandering to the industry gatekeepers, and they see pleasing them as the priority, not pleasing the players. Its one of the reasons I have so much respect for Warhorse Studios. Daniel Vavre, the director, pretty much told them to fuck off.

@@21Kiloton That's what my Husband and I were like with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series as well as a lot of the best games, actually.. (he's the sort of lad who's slow to trust new things, especially these days) We actually found out about Kingdom Come: Deliverance because of your channel, by the way -so thanks for that! If you like playing Days Gone and that feeling of constantly being surrounded by hazards and the *heavy* tension that comes with always being one misplaced footstep away from death, then you very likely would enjoy what the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games have to offer. Especially S.T.A.L.K.E.R Anomaly a (free to download) game / standalone mod-expansion that I've already seen other comments on this video mentioning a lot. It really pulls out all the stops to make you feel like a squishy human at every turn (in a good way) turning the threat-factor of it's franchise's already grippingly atmospheric and *hauntingly* immersive world up to 11, so that every small step of the struggle for survival that you successfully take feels like a real monumental leap and is all the more memorable and satisfying because of it. Would love to hear your thoughts on it! ^v^ Also looking forward to your glorious and poetic lambasting of the absolute woke wank-fest that called itself "E3 2021", that'll no doubt help give a voice to what the vast majority of us have been feeling as well as illicit a good therapeutic chortle.. Great videos on Days Gone, by the way! :)

When playing survival. I focused my Nero injectors on getting more focus in wished I had focused more points into health as the runners would pretty much one shot me when I rode my bike. First hit would take me off the bike and the second would quickly follow up as I tried to pick myself up off the ground. It made riding at night very engaging as I always made sure to keep my ears up for sounds of runners approaching.

Based on my previous experiences I have always followed the logic of "if in doubt, spec into health". I screw quite a few things up so it really helps. After that I went for a bit in stamina (because gassing out when running is nasty), and just a little into Focus. I find this works for me because it keeps me alive, lets me run enough, and I only use Focus for clutch head shots when Im in real trouble. Happy hunting guys.

Days Gone is guilty of being yet another open world box ticking exercise in a completely rote setting. It is however as well executed as such a concept could reasonably be, much like Ghost of Tsuchima. The one thing mechanically that impressed me about DG is the fact you can kill your bike engine to coast on momentum and save fuel or avoid making noise. STALKER: Anomaly is available for free for anyone who wants an open world game in a wasteland setting that's actually deep, highly challenging and richly atmospheric. The difficulty can be tweaked so that its as forgiving or brutal as you like. Go try that.

This game has been the best £6 I ever spent on a game and it's in my top favourite game list. A true hidden gem. Yeah a bit slow to start but then the hours just fly by. Then putting the difficulty settings up on a new game the slow start becomes pretty stressful as you basically have nothing. Well worth a go. Thanks for that Colin. I remember Sam Witwer mentioning something about that but I didnt realise it was IGN. Christ they cant have played it for long, because there is a horde at the Nero base just down from the first camp.

amazing, as always, but the idea of introducing a water-dinking survival mechanic is ludicrous and would break the loop. and you know it

Trying to get to level 3 trust with the camps you have access to before moving to a new area, especially with the later areas requires a lot of tedious busy work. Like many games, you shouldn't have to be almost finished to enjoy the best the game has to offer IMO. My only other 'complaint' would be the recorded volume settings for the protagonist. Especially when on the bike - his LOUD TALKING HAS A VERY ANNOYING QUALITY TO IT while others on the radio or riding with him speak normally. I forgive the Voice Actors for any script they are given to read, but I'd like to have a word with the games sound engineer and executive in charge of overseeing the voice recording.

Nice vid as ever. Intend to replay on survivor difficulty later in year when the game isn't so fresh in my warped mind. Anybody who likes a good apocalyptic book try "the rising by brian keene", read it (again) at the time i was playing this. Made the whole experience more immersive.

Fucking love days gone!! Didn't only five or six people work on this game? Maybe it was just the open world mechanics but still that's amazing how well they did when bigger already established developers and publishers fail with much bigger budgets and much more developers

I really enjoyed Days Gone and agree that 7/10 is a fair score. Urinalists are the reason I didn't buy The Last of Us 2 was because of all the gatekeeping, deception and politics and because they love the white knight Neil Cuckman. I would be surprised if most of these "journalists" even played the game. Journalistic integrity is how Gamergate started in the first place.

I thought I was going insane when I played this at launch. The performance was shaky at times, but I don't think I have been so immersed in a long time. Great game. Glad it is doing well on PC. I might start playing it again.

4:45 - Hiding in a dumpster was a thing in Resident Evil 4, not for your character but Ashley Graham, the president's daughter. So you can't say no one ever thought of hiding in a dumper in a video game before, but I suppose it may be the first game where the player's character can hide there.

5:16 Christ, i just realized that i want this feature in post apocalypse game. A random event where you meet a guy that lives in a dumpster. Gives you a quest for booze and never leaves its dumpster. He even out of the gratitude invites you in his home...the dumpster. You know classic crazy shit. Like in Fallout 2 where if you are an imbecile you can understand other imbeciles.

on the topic of faking reviews: shogun 2 did exactly that. 1 day before a big negative patch (they KNEW it would be bad) they started to get a TON of positive reviews with "great" "nice game" and other botlike shit. single word reviews. hundreds. then the bad patch dropped. extensive negative reviews about the shit they have done and the tons of bugs they didnt care about on one side and again, botlike single word reviews on the other.

You said it all just about right! Its a really fun and Great game(even better with a few mods and reshade) and that if BEND had another chance I think they could make damn near a masterpiece second go around. If they realized what they needed to improve that is lol. Either way im 75 Hours in basically done with game and will be starting a NG+ after a week or two break

I enjoyed the hell out of this game, very solid in every way. The biker thing, conjures up stereotypes in the game. Although the game does not actually contain any of them I believe that hurt the game a lot. As for a random tip, if you fast travel to somewhere that has a gas can nearby, leave your bike, run to get it then drop it by your bike. It will stay there for the next few fast travels making it really easy to fuel up.

Yeah the voice issues were jarring at times. I’d be all stealthy, sneaking around a NERO checkpoint and freakers were a few meters away. My radio would spark up and Deacon would be screaming down it, lol. Or as part of a story mission I’d be tasked with clearing a horde. After completing and being told to return to my bike. Well I like looting first and would start scavenging to replenish everything I’d just used before going back. Then when I’d eventually return Deacon would be all breathless and panicked, as though I’d literally just finished the last freaker off. Jarring but minor. I thoroughly enjoyed the game and it was one of the first games in a few years where I was actually compelled to drive the story forward. I was genuinely interested in where the story was going and how the characters would fare.h

I feel ya. When Deacon is stealthing in a bush and starts yelling his head off it always makes me smirk. I think production continuity is one of those vocations that everyone takes for granted until it goes wrong. And I agree with the story, especially as there are times when you think you "know" the game, and something will happen that pushes it into something new. (trying to be spoiler-free there)

@@21Kiloton Yeah it’s a solid game. Far better than the scores IGN and other games “journalists” gave it. He was a white male, man’s man biker dude. No way that was going to fly with identity politics addicted activists masquerading as journalists. If mind mind serves me correctly one of the outlets literally brought that up as a negative. They’re a joke. On another topic, I don’t know how much you like survival games but I’d love to see a review/tutorial of Green Hell if you’ve played it. It’s been on PC a while but has just released console. Have you played it?

I remember when DG launched. Kallie Plagge (the dumb woke chick that reviewed cyberpunk but didn't use crafting or half the other features in the game) worked for IGN back then, and she complained abt Deacon being a white male. She also complained about things that just aren't things after you actually play the game and upgrade skills/equipment. She got crucified in the comments and IGN promptly deleted the video. It kicked off the whole slam campaign for DG despite the few of us that actually played the game defending it in comment sections all over the internet.

Please do. I've looked everywhere for that review, and have never been able to find it. I mean it was just blatantly ridiculous for anyone that had played the game. She clearly didn't even play it, and the comments fkn exploded. You're welcome. I'm always happy to see praise for DG.
