Physical updates are a holdover from the pre-internet days where rebalancing a game meant releasing a new edition. This practice is starting to come to an end now with SFV and MVCI being treated as expandable platforms. GGXrd Rev 2 was also released as an expansion for Revelator instead of as a standalone title. You're never going to get new characters without having to pay for them somehow. Speaking from personal industry experience, fighting game characters just cost too much money to develop, and fighting games themselves aren't huge revenue generators. The developers need the added revenue streams of DLC/expansions/versions just to justify those development costs. Especially for Arc System Works, whose games fall more into the niche category. Granted, this is also being published by Bandai Namco Games, so things will probably be a bit different this time.

using known tropes from MvC and KOF helps a lot. don't get me wrong this game is great but it's nothing special mechanics wise so far. Kind of feel there should be a lower cap on how much meter you can have for example.

I gonna guess a good percentage of the dlc revenue goes into paying licenses and rights to add or use certain characters in the case of MVCI, after all, deals and contracts arent valid forever, and had to be renewed periodically.

That comeback at the end was straight up insane. Really was on the edge of my seat rooting for the Vegeta win. All those epic Final Flash and Big Bang finish really got the hype going. Really fun watching people play this game at such a level. Almost want to get it myself but I suck hardcore at sidescrolling fighting games for some reason.

I always found it funny how Dragon Ball Is this martial arts anime but a lot of the people who I know are 1st generation fans suck at fighting games. And some of these kids today won't even know how to do a fireball motion. LOL. I've been playing fighting games since Street Fighter 2, I wasn't great back then because I was a child back in the early 90's, but I knew that fighting games were for me. And because I loved Dragon Ball and started watching it in 1994, I always wanted a great Dragon Ball fighting game, but unfortunately, many were pretty awful or they were fun but not traditional hardcore fighters. We've finally got what I've been needed since forever and it by my favorite fighting game developer, Arc System Works, I've been wanting them to make a DBZ game since high school, back when I played Guilty Gear X in 2001, I just knew they could do it. 16 years later, it became a reality. And it'll only get better from here on out.

In DBFZ the barrier absorbs normal Ki specials for free and will slightly increase your meter. When used against a ranged super it will nullify all chip damage, but will cost several bars of meter depending on the attack. It's a strong defensive utility tool that will be very useful against zoner-type characters. It will fail against physical attacks and close combat supers however, so it's not going to be a get out of jail free card.

I know that this is a beta, but why both players had vegeta with the same color?

In the beta you don't go to a traditional character select screen. Both players have to have the characters they want to use in sets with colors and order already predetermined. So when the match started they must have both picked the same color for Vegeta beforehand. Though I agree there should be something to make it easier to tell the difference.

I can see 18 pissing off a lot of players in the future, just because I can see a set play develop with her style, but watching this I noticed how slow her command grab is, seems easy enough to react to. But my god, this game looks stunning! I've been waiting to see a video where Cell does more than just die, and while he still did a lot of that here too (lol), he got in some rough offense, and I liked what I saw.
