Great job, Wags. For the kids at home, 11 alpha (top of the staple) is correct for approach with a transition to 12-13 in the roundout. 13 is "on speed" but a much higher risk of scraping the ventral fin or the speed brakes (by going from 13-15 degrees) or sinking in the overrun.

One problem with the plane are it's teeny tiny MFDs (and just two of them). You need VR zoom to see anything on them. Might not be much of a problem in the real jet, given the higher resolution of the Mk I eyeball. Also, the DED really likes to pick up glare when the sun is behind/besides you.

Great video....can’t wait... Wags did not mention flaps at all ....He probably felt it was taken for granted.... the crowd involved that we knew so for somebody who does not know the F-16 here’s an exclamation To be clear, you don’t manually set the flaps for normal takeoff or landing (unlike other aircraft). Like was mentioned, the gear position will tell the jet if you are in takeoff/landing or cruise FLCS gains, and it will schedule flaps accordingly. One other wrinkle in the flap logic is the Alternate Flap switch, used to deploy the flaps in case of gear extension failure. The flaps go down to 20 deg, just as in normal gear down deployment. To prevent flap overload and control difficulties the flap will gradually retract automatically at speeds above 300 kt,, which is the normal gear down limit

At close final, the 2.5 lines are placed on the overrun and AoA is flown 11 to 13 degrees. This places the FPM just above the bracket at 11 and even more so at 13. You would fly at 13 if you wanted a bit lower touch down speed. Once over the overrun, the FPM is slightly raised to be 2-3 degrees below the horizon line. It's not a huge flare, but a lot different than putting down the Hornet.

I'm still pretty new to DCS, but for my next aircraft I was completely torn between the Hornet and the Tomcat. I had finally decided the Tomcat was going to be the one. And then I found out about the Viper and the general plans for it. So I'm right back to square one, though heavily leaning towards the F-16. Grrrrrr.......

@@gvii get the Hornet now. Multi-Role modern jet, and you can use most of the systems unlike the F16 which might take a year to get to this state. And then get the Viper ;)

Good choice. I bought the Hornet twice and got it refunded, twice. Followed all the correct sequences for start and takeoff and still had pitch issues. Would literally barely climb. Thought the first time was just a glitch and maybe it had been addressed, so I tried again, with the same result. Contacted support both times, received NO responses both times.

What determines which way you break? Was expecting a left break & you went right instead
@pjstew5 жыл бұрын
Varies from airfield to airfield to airfield or as directed depending on runway assignment, traffic constraints etc

@@pjstew cheers makes sense. Been doing so many left hand carrier breaks i think it broke my brain watching him break right lol

Approach speed was quite fast in this video. It's much better to approach with the FPM between the top and middle of the AoA bracket, then flare with the FPM in the middle, then holding that AoA for aerobraking.

Hey Wags! Just wondering if you have found any good sensitivity setting on your FSSB with the viper, recently got mine with the angled adapter. Thought about asking you who's already flying it, and also spent time in the real simulator, thanks!

So its not automatic as soon as u deploy landing gear ?

@@geraltofvengerberg3049 It is. But he was quite high.. I did believe i saw the light chage briefly once, but he was constantly above the AoA bracket, hence the light showed the high arrow only.

No, I was where I should be. Please take a look at some of real world F-16C landing HUD videos. In the F-16, you do NOT land with the FPM centered in the bracket, it is just above at 11 degrees and even more so at 13.

The indexer lights are always on in the Viper, not just with gear down like in the Hornet.

i thought anything under 10,000 feet was 250 knots or does that not apply to military?

Not for the F-16C.

It does apply, with exceptions. 300kias for the Viper is correct.

The tilted camera at the start makes me nauseous. But otherwise, great video! Excited for the Viper.
