Second solo venture on Tempest's Fox-1 Server.
Not discussed in the video, but here are some thoughts I've gathered since filming this and the last video.
I'm quite enjoying the MiG-29 Vs. Mirage balance - The Mirage has the range and sensor advantage and it's definitely no slouch in the dogfight, but the MiG has the sneaky advantage using electro optical IR sensors rather than radar, and high off-boresight Fox-2s.
The Overlord textbot gives the Mirage the advantage in open areas, and the MiG the advantage in the mountains - I think the best change the server could make is having a much lower reliance on the overlord bot, an all seeing eye in a server where everyone has powerful sensor suites makes it too easy to track people down, and too hard to avoid detection - my RWR's clean but people are finding me, it's a bit broken. How am I supposed to counter that?
I think the EWR/AWACS system used by Buddyspike's servers works far better, and as I'll get into below, offers you more situational awareness, without being overpowered.
In the few days I've been on and off the server the frontline hasn't really moved, which is either indicative of very well defined asymmetric balance, or that everyone's just treating it like an air-quake server and not focusing on the objectives (I'm definitely guilty of this because I don't understand well enough how to find ground targets), it's too soon for me to be able to tell yet.
This will be discussed more in future videos, but with a mid-low population the server works pretty well, the overlord textbot does its job in getting you into fights and those fights are fun when they're infrequent and sporadic. Textbot informs you of one person, you assume they're also aware of you, and you're able to have quite intense one on one battles of wit and skill. Epic, love that.
The problems arise when the server is reaching capacity, and a clear Blue advantage emerges in the form of their RWR - The overlord bot is pretty useless for building up a picture/situational awareness, it only informs you of the single target or close-form group closest to you.
With Western RWR you can see the group pinging you, and because you can use the RWR to ID what's locking you, you're also able to see other threats and to some extent, order them by most threatening - because you know what they are, and their more precise bearing.
If there's a guy on your 12 called out by Overlord, you can see him on RWR and find him on radar, this is true for both sides.
If there's then a second group, slightly further away coming at you hot from another direction, Blue RWR can show you what that contact is, and enable you to avoid being pincered.
With Russian RWR, you don't know what the lock source is, it might even be friendly, and it's harder to order things by threat beyond the main (closest/strongest) lock, so if you're solely reliant on the Overlord bot to direct you to fights, it's quite easy for the Blue team to set up ambushes by simply spacing themselves apart enough to not appear on one Overlord call out.
First guy gets you busy, second domes you whilst you're situationally blind.
It's certainly possible that I'm not good enough to read what Russian RWR is telling me and react to it accordingly, but I think if that's true for me, it's probably true of most players in DCS as well, so we have a significant imbalance in terms of situational awareness which at least for me, makes Blue a clear team choice when the server's heavily populated.

A lot of people like to hide in the mountains, but at least in my experience it just makes it easier to kill those aircraft. Whether I'm in the Fulcrum or the Eagle I'm cruising way high and just scanning low. Once you're up there the mountains can't hide you anymore and your missiles just become ineffective compared to the higher, faster jets. So for me the mountain crawlers are easy pickings.

have you tried setting a tripwire? it will call out multiple bogies as they cross that threshold to you, which will allow for good site picture. You can still use the bogey dope functionality when you have a tripwire set

I have but it doesn’t always seem to work, I read on Tempest’s discord that they implemented a line of sight feature for it to stop it being “all seeing” but what it means is that if they’re not in view when they pass within your tripwire, you don’t get a notification.

Human GCI is the key, a good GCI isn't just a BRA repeater like the bot but manage the airspace setting proper shapes and he will take care of giving only relevant info to the units that need them. Soviet jets relied a lot on gci so if you want to fly them be sure to do so with a competent GCI. I dominated BF scoreboard with just the mig29 and a good ally as GCI
@Bullet4MyEnemy
@Bullet4MyEnemy Жыл бұрын
There have either been issues with SRS since 2.8 dropped, or no one acting as GCI unfortunately - seems that Reds are generally less involved on comms than Blues for some reason, at least in my experience.

Hey Bullet, Im sure you're all warthundered out, but once the sale comes around, Gaijin introduced a BR rotation to sim, so planes with less than perfect flight performance can actually have a decent chance at having fun, the F-4C and other early Gen 3 planes are a real joy to fly.

I do plan on taking a look at this eventually, probably when the next sale hits. Quite into the idea of making the MiG-19 and F-100 competitive again

@bullet: you should checkout DDCS server. Best full scale PvP campaign server in DCS where some campaigns go on for more than a month. You will enjoy it as the players have to manage both air and ground war (fully built by players by slinging in helos and controlled using combined arms)

This is going back a bit so I was probably running 1080p with a few things dialled back, on a 2070 Super Since then I upgraded to a 4070ti, the 2.9 update dropped with DLSS and I’ve maxed everything at 1440p I’m getting higher, more stable fps now than I was then.

Don't keep the radar in interleaved mode, mig29 is quite shitty by itself and you are limiting it even more not doing proper micro. If a bandit is hot use HPRF go interleaved only if the target is notching

Nice tip, thanks. I am aware of the benefits of changing PRF but it hadn’t occurred to me to change it. I’ll be sure to utilise it better on my next flight 👌🏼

@@Bullet4MyEnemy you gain around 40km extra detection range vs a hot target (fighter sized). I was able to track enemy F15 at around 80km compared to 40 km in interleaved, obviously in look down and with clutter don't expect such ranges
@otarokoono4632
@otarokoono4632 Жыл бұрын
Also look at adjusting expected range to target. The bot tells you how far away they are (and hot,cold,beam,flanking) and if you adjust it correctly you’ll get a bonus to your detection range.

@@otarokoono4632 You mean the number at the bottom? Isn’t that just for the sake of getting the elevation angle right?

@@Bullet4MyEnemy essentially it points the radar at the exact location of your BRA call. It’s super helpful when you have flanking and beaming bandits and you have to go to MEDPRF You’ll notice if you go 2 or 3 up in elevation on the radar, and you extend the expected range, the radar elevation box gets closer to the 2 outward facing tick marks related to the nose attitude. Essentially it’s more for pinpointing an area of the sky you want to look at
