In this video we explore the Mirage 2000 and how it fights in a dogfight situation, this thing is absolutely lethal and we talk about how it likes to use vertical turning room to really get the best angles for the kills. The main trick in the Mirage Vs the F-18 Hornet is not rate fight the Hornet because if you do that you will lose every time. Tip: if you engage the spin switch, you can pull up until the plane reaches 80 kts or so. It basically removes the aoa limit. Great for terminal shots

That switch is pointless(except during some emergency) Just get Elastic G-limiter bound to your Stick paddle it does the same thing but keeps the computer on stand-by (sort of)

The vrille button allows you to pull either max g or maximum control surface deflection. I also removes the travel restriction of differential elevon commands, which means you can roll the plane apart if not careful

I should've read this before I posted. You can pull that 11G turn but it better be one-shot-one-kill otherwise that old Snecma M53 wont renergize the triangular plank fast enough.

@@GrowlingSidewinder No, I think if you did he would have had you. What saves the Mirage from deep stalling the elevons is its cg, which is good and bad. The F-18 has 4 wings if you include the tail and a safer cg for slow flying. I apologize just my point of view. Again, great video.

Mirage is so bloody beautiful. God love the French for making a fighter that has looks that can kill. I remember fighter pilots saying that the "Mustang just 'looked' like it was the best fighter in the world", basically because its lines were so classy and beautiful.

I've heard a lot of people like the Mirage's look. Personally, it looks kind of 'flat' to me. I prefer the aggressive look of something like the Su-27. The Rafale, though, I think is a beautiful plane.

Flawless. It's all about thrust to weight and when the Mirage is light watchout. Plus, if you find yourself with someone powerful doing scissors, switch off the flight-by-wire and snap roll it, that huge tail is like a 3rd wing. It's difficult and takes time to control the oscillations but "almost" nothing rolls like the M2000.

The preliminary moves and setups were kind of questions and if opponent found working answer, we would ask different one, until one couldn't answer fast enough =D

I am surprised you didn't stay with him in the stall. Looked like you were out climbing him. TAC View shows you had a 40 knot advantage, but you didn't know this at the time. You could visually see you were going up at a higher rate of climb. You then nosed over. When the Mirage was first released people could not believe the rate of climb. Now we see it is truly no joke. At that point of the engagement, it reminded me of Randy Cunningham in his F-4 fighting it out with that MIG-17. Three vertical engagements - canopy to canopy - with Cunningham out climbing the 17 each time. Both aircraft stalling out at almost the same time. Never seen such a ballsy move to remain in the vertical like at at 66 knots. Nice command of the airplane MasterJay! Salute!

AC7 really nails the performance of each aircraft. Sure it is a flight arcade game, but Project Aces did a solid job of making each plane feel like it moves in its unique way. Nothing wrong with that at all.

@@romanoutlaw6554 True on that, you can really feel that in this case with the Super Hornet as it excells on medium-low speed dogfights, while doing less so on higher speeds. The Mirage takes it on the medium-high and defenitly fun to fly, then again I'm sure that on DCS its inmatachable compared to AC7. Good job GS, I really love your videos, informative and intersting.

I first installed the Su-25 about 8 years ago. Found the learning curve to be quite high (all I wanted to do was shoot stuff so played Strike Fighters 2 instead). Finally re-installed DCS a year ago; bought so many planes when they were on sale and I don't know where to start! Trying to learn the Hornet at the moment. Will move to the MiG-21 next and then the Harrier. You're doing the right thing by working through tutorials of one plane at a time.

I'm glad I watched this. I clearly seen that winning is about fighting the fight your plane wants. It was clear the 2 of you knew your planes and what kind of fight they were built for. The difference I saw was your ability to make him fight the mirage fight. I could see him press his fight a few times but was not able to keep you locked in his fight. That so called reset move is brilliant. I wonder if that reset maneuver can be done with an su 35 after the first merge to deal with the loss of energy?

What I tend to do in situations like these is that once the fight gets to the ground I just ease up on the stick after a couple of turns, I build up enough energy and do a spiral climb. The hornet will try to follow me but wont have the energy to do so. I do a "hammerhead" and drop on him while he is stalled or very low on energy and thats about it. If he has enough energy to dodge me I just climb again and drop back on him until I kill him.

Very entertaining dogfighting. The gentleman's agreement was a nice touch. I wish we could program AI to do the same - I may have to look for a MOD or something. Just downloading the 28GB DCS Openbeta patch now and catching up on DCS KZbin content while I wait. Mirage 2000c is getting improved afterburner glow, I am sure that won't help it get better at dogfighting, but It may look more awesome at dusk/dawn! LOL MiG-21 got a crazy impressive amount of updates for such an old module. Perhaps you can do some dogfighting with it and see if you notice any differences good or bad?? Cheers.

I think that both planes are very capable, but the 30mm of the Mirage, even beign quite hard to aim at moving targets don't allow mistakes; on both sides. This said, you make it look easy. Stay well man

In the 1st fight, when he was stalled around 3:00 I was thinking that if you tried to do more of a downwards loop instead of a full horizontal circle to come around, you might have a better chance. Yes this is at the expense of more energy, but you would complete it faster and he might still not have recovered from the stall. I am not sure how it would work. Even though I have some nostalgia towards your old videos, I really like how your explanations have evolved :D Some more fox 3 action soon?

The 30mm sure are heavy, but for aerodynamics that's an advantage. The reason you need soo much lead is because they are slow, witch is partly due to the weight of the shells, but most importantly due to the short case of the ammunition and the relatively short barrel of the defa

The British Harriers had a showdown with the Mirage 3s and actually shot one down whilst the strike-fighter copies, the Daggers suffered heavily against the Harrier. Through a combination of being laden with bombs and the Harrier pilots using Viffing. What's the DCS exchange between these two planes like, is there a good comparison and does the harrier come up to scratch?

Im wondering how you hit so many bursts without having the radar pipper on the target at the moment of firing. Ive been having trouble hitting my targets at close range when Im right behind them in a basically static scenario, so I was just wondering if something is off about the gun pipper, or if its maybe just the delay from the radar. Is is in STT mode if you have a lock with your guns? I wouldnt be surprised if there was a bug, because the CCRP mode also overshoots every single time.

I don't understand jet designs enough, but always felt like from the look it wouldn't maneuver as well. Thought delta wings were for going fast or something. Nice video as always.

Thats because tailess Delta with high sweep has two caracteristics which can somehow be used to balance the other: -First and most often claimed is that it is VERY dragy at moderate to high AoA (positive: combined with great nose autority it allows for a tiny turn radius - turn inside the opponent / negative: when baited into a rate fight it bleeds just too much energy to hang on). -Second and less heard about is it has VERY LOW drag on level flight. Hence the great accelaration / rate of climb (typical interceptor design choice). That means whenever it stop turning it can just flee and over-accelerate even opponents with greater Thrust to Weight ratio. This is why our friend GS could "reset" the fight at will.

I guess this view is a little bit misleading due to increasing the sizes and the planes are actually something like a kilometer or more apart and hitting at that distance is almost impossible.
