Oh man, I've been following Nisse for years now. I just learned the 8HP gained a better controller, but the DCT was going in my 97X at first (think I might go with 8HP, now) but it's so cool to see you've been working together for DCT betterment!

@@ZeroTo60Tube car is going great. All the usual bolt ons done and running MHD 2+ which quickly highlighted some of the ageing plastics in the cooling systems. But that’s all sorted now. Next up is a suspension and breaking refresh. A leaky shock and small lip on the disc seems like a good reason to get some BC’s. Just need to decide if I’ll go the dickase route ‘as preventative maintenance’ lol.

Not the same box but I had the exact same issue with a g6r box I just changed the clutches and got a now solenoid pack just while I was in there. Also changed the clutch basket for a Dodson billet as the standard was welded from the factory and I didn’t fancy spot welds holding over 600bhp.

Thank you for the helpful content! I'd wager there must be a similar diagnostic for 6HPs/8HPs. Man I'd like to find a good manual on using ISTA+. Hoping you're on the mend and feeling good as new soon Andrew!

Unfortunately theres not with the auto. the auto box electronics is much more simple. No pressures sensors, just 2 speed sensors and a temp sensor.

Ah the good ol Couf! LOL. Gotta love it in all it's oppressive forms. I had it three twice and I'm glad I'm on the other side of it. Thank you for making a video even when you're not well. It looks like you're on the other side of being sure about the cause of the slippage. I'm on the other side of "Beware of cheap tuners" now too. LOL. Although it's not very funny when you're going through it at least it was a cheap rip off. Well I shouldn't be too harsh as at least I got one map that is a base map for my 17t's. I was too impatient. It cost me $150 USD for the one map and nothing else but hey that was $150 American which in Canadian dollars is Either first born or two limbs. I hope you'll be back to full volume and sight soon! Thanks!

Interesting and informative video on the DCT clutch pack. Sorry to hear you have contracted Covid-19 Andrew. I hope you recover quickly. Half of the Australian adult population have had Covid now and with it spreading worse than ever more are likely to contract it. Look forward to the video when you replace your DCT clutch packs.

Thanks Ken appreciate the kind thoughts. It wasnt too bad. Mind you i am a epitome of health at the moment, energy and drinks and fast food, must be what helped. Yeah, looking forward to sorting the trans and the motor out. Looking in to clutch upgrade options as well with Ken from Wedge. Might just do it right and do it once for a chance.

@@ZeroTo60Tube I am sure you can get the DCT strong enough to withstand the output of your car. There are a number of S55 M3's pulling 9s runs with the DCT handling it ok.

My money is on piston slap from undersize pistons. You don't necessarily have to have a micrometer to check just a dial gauge. Undersize pistons/oversize bore can be checked by north/south on the piston with the dial gauge to see how much lift there is. Bad rod you check East/west with dial gauge, piston/bore problem north/south. My guess is undersize pistons.

Nisses e30 is one crazy weapon, have been watching it go way before DCT sawp, racing against supercars etc, here in finland is one car close to that, e30 325Ix, but with 1000hp M20 engine.

HTG GCU check this out offers complete control over your DCT. You can control clutch pressure and all other functions. On Audi we run syvecs controller.

Looking at your values I think it’s pretty safe to say that you need a new clutchpack, considering the pressures were very similar 😬

Because this gearbox has some mileage on it, maybe it's better to change the selenoids and the clutch material at the same time. Dutch regards, Nico. Btw you will also test positive having the normal flu. It's part of the corona family🤷‍♂️

N54! But they are a lot of work. I have no doubt N55 will be the same as they age mind you. But right now, bang for buck n54 wins hands down.

@@ZeroTo60Tube the piston as you know is what applies the clutch, fluid at high pressure moves it. There are springs under it that release the piston. I’ve seen the seals for the pistons get hard and leak over time and that is a direct loss of pressure to the clutch. That snap ring you saw in your other video was the snap ring for one of the pistons, usually you have to put the clutch in a vise to compress the springs to allow the removal of the snap ring. Obviously you now have a low mileage clutch to replace yours with so those piston seals should be good but once yours is out you can take it all apart and check them out. I work on a lot of GR6 transmissions and they all operate on the same principle so any help I’m more than willing. I don’t think it’s why yours failed but it’s worth checking and learning at the same time how it operates.

Also, you can check the clutches with air, you would need to pull the mechatronics unit off and use compressed air with the clutch on and test its operation.

That e30 m50 turbo is a Monster. But still I think the dct always suffers over time...in those applications, youll always want an tc gearbox like the 8hp... And hope you are all healthy soon again, press my thumbs 😉😊

While i tend to agree, the 8hp is the superior trans for moving the car forwards, i do like the way the DCT hits on the shifts.

So I did mention a while back in one of your videos that JB4 and DCT are not a good match. I tried it in my car and for the first time in my life I felt clutch slip on my DCT Z4 35i. I got gearbox overheating errors even. Take JB4 out and the problem is gone altogether. The problem is very simple, JB4 is a piggyback system, it controls boost but your ECU has no idea wtf is going on so the DCT line pressure stays the same as if the car was boosting 9psi. People have put upgraded clutch packs to no avail. A few people I know have burnt their DCT clutches running JB4 here in SA. XHP helps to a degree but not like it would if you were running MHD or a custom tune that someone like Ken made who knows how to tune for DCT. JB4 breaks DCT clutches, and you did mention in the previous vid that you were running JB4 with this DCT setup. I think I mentioned that this would happen on the vid when you were doing the DCT swap. I know there will be a bunch of nay Sayers to this, but its pretty well documented and as far as I remember the guy that deigned JB4 (I forget his name) in one of his threads actually brings this point up and says there is no solid fix for this due to the way the JB4 works however the backend flashes do try to remedy the problem somewhat.

While you are right to be concerned the right back end flash fixes the issues, however not many tuners can tune them properly for JB4. I was running more power with the 17ts than most n54s on the planet and the box had 200,000k's to start with. I think its just a warn out part. Dont feel the need to blame anything on such a high milage clutch pack.
