Very nice conversion for a 57 Chevy. I'm sure its a blast to drive in the snow. Seen a 57 four door station wagon set on a 4x4 frame with a 8 inch lift kit, big tires and wheels. The owner had a snow plow on it. It was actually tastefully done and looked quite practical as a 4x4 and a family hauler.

This morning it was 44 degrees F, 6 Celsius and I was freezing my ass off. It's now 70 F, 21 Celsius on a nice December afternoon. But then 110 F, 43 Celsius is common here in July and August. Ooo I miss my Scottish snowplough, it was an ancient Mk1 short-wheelbase Land Rover. With a free (provided by the Aberdeenshire CC) hydraulic lift butterfly snowplow, and both road and petrol exempt. The deal was that I would keep five miles of local roads open when possible. It was a great way of doing things but to keep the rear wheels in contact with the tarmac I had to load 1/2 ton of granite rocks in the back. Having worn the Land Rover out I bought an ex-British Army Rolls Royce engined Austin Champ and the council transferred the hydraulics to that. What a crazy, dodgy vehicle the Champ was. It was unstable and soldiers had kept killing themselves driving them, so the army sold them off for about £125 each. You could put the whole gearbox into reverse! I suspected that was for retreating at 70 mph! Much worse it was a soft top and so unstable as to be ridiculously dangerous! Not the best snowplough. Your Chevy looks a much better bet!

I knew old timer that stuck a pipe thru the grill, firewall, and glovebox of his 57 chevy 2wd pu. He attached a steering wheel on the inside end of the pipe and a chain and sprocket setup to lift his homemade plow rig. The plow blade was a chainsaw cut rough plank, trouble was it would not stay down when plowing. It would float over the snow, so his solution to this problem was go get the old lady out to stand on the plow blade, it worked like a charm! If, the snowstorm coincided with him being half in the bag, well lets just say she could work on her acrobatic skills.

The plow should be angled so it pushes off to the side. Heavy plowing will twist your frame. If your going to just play ok. If not, you need to beef things up. My Willy's Cj5 was used strictly for plowing. The frame needed straighting.

If you really want to push snow you have to have some snow. 2 or 3" of powder doesn't even get messed with here in Mt Shasta Ca. It gets a lot colder where you are so the snow is a lot dryer which equals lighter. We have wet snow and it's really heavy. We'll get six to 12" inches over night most storms but we can get over two feet at once as well. I know it's fun to slide around while plowing but when you get serious put some chains on that rig.

need a plastic bar edge on the plow because of "driveway scratches"... as Tbird has a 700 pound AAM1150 axle and a hitch that holds another 600 pounds on it, 3000lb rear weight = plow dislodges bowling ball size rocks and can bend a 3''x3''x1/4'' L channel bar in half just pushing some 3 foot wet pile of drift in.
