That’s the tragedy of it. Michael was just an ordainary man who wanted to make the world better, who wanted to save us from what he saw as the ultimate threat. Instead, his name was used to legitimize a religion based around the worship of the very thing he was against. I can only think that the Brethren were playing with him, letting him toy around until they had what they needed, before forcing him to serve them… _as all must one day serve._

Unitology is a commentary on the extremes of any religion. If that faith isn't in open arms against non-believers, it's the under table machinations of rich devotees that influence society. Even as a Christian, I still fear the the ability of man to twist good messages for their own gains.

Imagine Markers in the Borderlands universe.
@TheCorrodedMan10 ай бұрын
Scientology had been a dead religion for years by the time the Marker was found. It was mostly because of the general collapse of humanity’s collective faith, started during catastrophic events like the Trinity Hurricanes and the Lunar Wars. Everyone just sort of…stopped caring. Much of the universe was still unknown, but we were convinced that we knew enough to determine a single fact; God didn’t exist, there was no afterlife, and the world ain’t getting any better. Then the Marker. Suddenly, there’s something new to latch on to, something that not only provides answers to question we thought had been answered, but _plausible_ answers, with _tangible_ proof. So, naturally, we clung to it for dear life. While this new religion had the vitality to overtake most others, it didn’t actually do anything to them. Most rival faiths just…faded away. Leaving mankind as either Strictly Atheist or Unitologist.

I personally believe that Unitology, or at least the Circle, are much more of a sect than a religion. Otherwise, why would the Unitologists try to fight necromorphs in Dead Space 3 ? Wouldn't it make them closer to the Convergence?
@EnclaveSOC-102 Жыл бұрын
In Dead Space 3 the Unitologists that were encountered are part of an extremist faction called The Circle led by Danek, and the reason they fight Necromorphs during gameplay is explained in the game's dialogue as part of the natural human fight or flight instinct. So if you think about it Danek and the Circle are trying to kill Isaac and the Necromorphs are just getting in the way due to being hostile to everyone, meaning that it's basically a free-for-all fight between Isaac and the Eudora's crew, The Circle and the Necromorphs.

The beginning of this video is already wrong, on so many points. For a start he never moved there with his girlfriend. He took a position because she was already there studying the locals. He also never found the signal. He shared a lab with another geophysicist who worked for a different company. He discovered the signal, not altman. He also wasn't haveing headaches for weeks before they found the marker. They all started to feel its effects the moment it went off. Also altman going public happened after he was inducted into the program by dredger corp. He escaped the compound and returned to America to go public. He was pulled in originally by dredger corp because he was in contact with someone who set up their computers, and he wanted to discuss the signal with altman. It was him who told altman that dredger corp was setting up a company to study the marker. Your stuff is usually spot on, but i couldnt watch the rest because so much is wrong in the first four mins.

I know that there wont be a continuation of the Dead Space franchise nor an ending but...i always wonder if the Moon Brethen were once an alien race trying to cheat death in order to live forever but something went very wrong and accidentally created a death hivemind and end up causing the Plague of death on space.
@DalekSec022 ай бұрын
My theory is that an alien race built the original marker to end the resource shortage, to convert the dead into new material/like compost. But the marker was flawed, it started affecting the living (dead cells within the living) & subsequently started making necromorphs & to ensure its own survival, starting rewriting dna of any lifeforms nearby. So it sends a marker to a world, it causes the lifeforms to evolve to a level needed to sustain a brethren moon, then it begins changing them into necromorphs to then become a brethren moon & then send another marker to start the process again. Thus a new species comes when the last is gone & keeps the cycle going, with each moon being a previous race & when a moon is at its end, becomes a new marker to be made whole anew. I had an idea for what a final/4th story could be, involving Issac needing to alter the black marker & needing to planet crack/gravity tether the earth to get the marker.

Side note: the truth is that 50% if not more of the people playing Dead Space and commenting on this video have the same basis of morality that Unitologists do: that moral decisions should be weighted toward maximizing collective good rather than individual good. Unitologists' "extreme" version of this, albeit coupled with an unfalsifiable religion, is simply the logical conclusion of following this ethics.
