I COMPLETELY disagree when andrew said you don't need serious moments in a Deadpool movie. Deadpool is a tragic character, he has a twisted morality due to past in the special forces and is constanty being pulled apart and put back together with his powers healing his tumors over and over again. His entire 4th wall grotesque humor is an elaborate coping mechanism for the constant pain in his body and of his morality. He is a mercenary because his powers and skills are the only things he has left. He's self-loathing. He can't die, even though he often wishes he could. Deadpool may be the guy who never shuts up and never wastes an opportunity to throw out a pop culture reference when he's stabbing someone in the face, but the dark truth is that he's the sort of person who likes to keep busy so he doesn't have to dwell on everything wrong in his life. "I've been cursed with eternal life, yet I don't know the first thing about livin' a good one"
@TheEscapePodPodcast3 ай бұрын
Totally didn't mean to insinuate serious moments aren't needed. One of my major cons was the story being a mess and not exploring Deadpool's motivations enough in the movie. And one of my major pros was the depth that Wolverine's character experiences and some of those scenes were my favorite in the movie! Serious moments are always needed. Which is one of the reasons I also don't like Thor Raganrok as much. BUT I was saying three HUGE things they needed for this movie to be good or successful in my mind and in lots of other people's minds was the cameos, fights, and comedy. And they do a good job with all three of those. So I was just praising that. Apologies if I made it seem like I want the whole movie to be a pointless joke. I don't. I don't think any great movie should be that.
@alejandrocalderon98383 ай бұрын
@@TheEscapePodPodcast Okay, I completely understand your point. it's just Deadpool is one of my favorite characters and his tragic side not getting enough love in mainstream media upsets me a tad. The first two movies do touch on it enough, not as much as I would like, but it's definitely touched enough to get that point across, but a lot of people do see him as PURELY unserious. I haven't seen this movie yet but it seems like that will be an issue I will agree with u on once I do watch it.

@dylanblack77123 ай бұрын
(No Spoilers). I have to go against the common opinion here to say that I fully back Alex in his opinions on this movie. No shade if you enjoy the movie. Many of my friends did, and I am glad for that. However, I am going to state my opinion as well. Yes, the movie is funny, but that should be a given considering it is a Deadpool film. Other than that, the story is sub-par, convoluted, and inconsistent in terms of the past given multiverse/ time explanations in the MCU. I get that you are supposed to not care about the messy and confusing story because it is a Deadpool movie, but just because he breaks the 4th wall to acknowledge the goofiness, does not mean that you need to give it a pass as a viewer. If you say that I should view it independently from the MCU or forget about continuity, I would argue that the writers are the ones actively involving it into the MCU by bringing in the TVA. If you are going to do that, you have to put an effort in to tie it all together. Every project pertaining to the multiverse seems to have different rules, which is making it such a drag to watch. Like Alex said, a Deadpool movie can be done with a tight story like in Deadpool 1. I don't know where the idea has come from that a movie can't be funny and make sense at the same time. The villains are also near, if not at the bottom, of the list of MCU villains. Seriously, I watched about 75% of the movie waiting for the villain to show up before internally saying, "No way they are the main villain." Hugh is great, but I strongly disagree that this movie warranted the undoing of his sendoff in Logan. I mean, how is the character in a better spot now then he was at the end of that film? Although the fights are cool, especially the first scene, I also agree with Alex that a lot of the CGI looks terrible throughout the film. I may be a bit biased, admittedly, because I have been a huge critic of Phases 4 and 5 despite being a massive fan of the Infinity Saga. However, in an age of Marvel where films full of cameos and sub-par storytelling has become way to common, I really don't feel like this movie is going to help moving forward. If your argument is that it doesn't matter, and it should be able to stand alone, I would ask again why it was brought into the MCU in the first place? This would have been a much better film on its own. Let me know your thoughts.

I had a far different reaction than most, my score being around 6.5-7/10. For me the gratuitous cameos and the lack of clever or even clear exposition or motivation really destroys this film for me. Firstly Deadpool’s whole motivation and background before the movie is horrible in my opinion, it feels so hollow and like just callbacks to the older movies without taking the lessons from those movies. It feels like this deep rooted fixation on mattering came out of nowhere and was just an excuse for Deadpool to have some character arc. Secondly, Wolverine. Bringing him back isn’t the problem it’s just the fact that they leave so much untapped potential on the floor. I truly believe this movie could be so much more promising if it focused on the characters and their journeys more than anything else. Like imagine if Deadpool impacted by the second movie, with a feeling of friendship and community he’s gained over the movies and his deeply hidden heroic nature on display. Decides to save this version of wolverine. I understand he sorta does that in the movie, but like imagine he relates to Logan, for being alienated, doing more harm than good but still finding a way to be selfless in his own way for redemption. It felt like his switch to helping Deadpool was way too quick, I wish they saved that for the end. Like wolverine comes in to save Deadpool or someone else at the very end. Mask finally donned, showing that he finally accepts what has happened and chooses to move forward. Lastly, my biggest point of contention with this film is what the film is all about. Deadpool and Wolverine. Why does it have to be wolverine? Why does he choose to dig up the grave? He needs help obviously but I wish they gave like a specific reason for this. When he is fully aware of other hero’s even those in dc. Why, when he could choose anybody. Does he choose wolverine? Like he could have chosen Spider-Man and it would have honestly been a pretty great film, with their conflicting rules and ideology’s. The wolverine part doesn’t fully work for me because he feels attached on the movie, almost forced. The force his character back from the dead, slap on a bright yellow suit to make people excited, that’s just what it felt like.

After watching it last night. I’ve been on the Alex train for a while now but I feel like he was way too harsh on this movie. I think the picky issues hold too much weight for him to yen he can explain away entire plot holes in other movies (I know it’s because marvel/comics but still) I also personally fully disagree with the Vanessa point. I think they explained it well enough imo. He, got rejected by the X-men, X-force was a failure and then he wanted to join the avengers and that was a rejection too because he didn’t know who he was, like happy said “you want it because you need it but they want it because people need them” and then he got a lost from this and Vanessa was clearly trying to progress her life while Deadpool was stuck as a car salesman. I’m fine with that. I also disagree that it’s not understandable that he would want to say everyone in the picture. With what I said above, no matter how lost he’s been, they’re the ones that fight with him when he needs it, try to keep him in check, or just help/support him, like friends should. I think it makes sense that they mean a lot to him. I agree that the movie wasn’t as clear as it could’ve been but calling it a mess seems a bit unfair imo. My biggest issue is I was confused about the Logan thing at the end. So Logan was from Deadpool’s timeline, but from another universe? Because if Logan stayed wouldn’t they all know who he was? And then with X-23 is she the one from Logan? And why was she pruned then? I think the movie had problems but this felt like first time viewing harshness imo
