Today, I made my last-ever debt payment. 1 year 3 months, 160k. Poof. no more. House, cars everything paid off at 44yo. I watched this show for a full week while laid up recovering from an injury. Forever changed how I view debt, and how I turned it all around. Me and wifey busted our buts, they've never been firmer. Dave, team. TY!

Here's the great part - my 30-ish sons some years back went to local college working 40+ hr weeks in retail, lived at home with mom, nearly died lol to have no college debt. Today they're both CPA's, great work, each with pd for cars and each with a house. **The point is they realize they're rich and free compared to their coworkers paying school loans. They help their widowed mom (me 😊), take trips, work like demons but enjoy life. You'll now be able to do more of the same. Congratulations!!!

I opened a high yield savings account through Betterment. It is linked to your bank but you don’t have automatic access to withdraw, which is what Ramsey Corp recommends. It pays about 4.75 back which is great. I recommend six months worth of expenses to my clients. It is hard but you feel a peace that feels like a warm blanket.

I agree! I think it’s psychologically harder. I found it more motivating to pay down debt and see my debt shrinking but for some reason I don’t get that same dopamine hit from saving for my emergency fund. I doesn’t help that I’m trying to save for 6 month emergency fund. Seems to be taking longer than I thought. I am impatient to start paying down my mortgage lol.

I learned from the first few callers that not only should I get out of debt to buy a home and start a family one day, but to be prepared for anything! I don’t know whether I’ll have triplets or a child with health issues, or anything else. Debt on top of those challenges sounds so stressful. I know people are resilient, but paying off my debt is something I can control! Loved this episode ❤

I looked into the SAVE plan that Dept of Ed offered me and I could have gotten payments as low as $130.00 a month which means I would have the loans until I die. I made the choice to pay my loans $500 a month immediately upon graduation in 2021 when loan payments were in forbearance and interest free. I went from 63K to 49K. Now that I have no other debt except the student debt and a mortgage I am going to go for over 1K payments a month. I am not waiting around for empty promises from the Government.

I say this with peace and love because I'm a fan of Dave and the gang. But will somebody tell Dave to stop telling wanna be pilots to just join the Air Force. In order for them to train you in flying you have to be a officer. To be an officer you have to have a college degree. If the dump truck driver wants to be a pilot. Thats fine. Get a degree in engineering from a good school. Then apply to the Air Force. Make sure they guarantee you a officer program. The Air Force doesn't train enlisted men. Enlisted men are fuel guys, drivers, and mechanics, and etc. Along with a degree from a good university you have to pass a numbers of tests. A F-35C cost close to 120 million dollars. Very few people actually fly in the Air Force. Your IQ has to be through the roof to become an Air Force pilot.

Idk if the producers read these comments but please tell the Ramsey team: medical doctors and nurses cannot defer admission, change admission dates or go part time. It just isn’t an option. Most of these programs are difficult to get into and start once a year..no exceptions. I am a CRNA and was fortunate to get into a program without being waitlisted. You have to start when the rest of the class starts and can’t go part time. In fact if something happens and you need to take time off, you have to wait until the next class starts the following year to resume the program. I’m referring to John’s suggestion that the RN start the anesthesia program in January instead of June. It’s just not a reality.

Dave is a little out of touch with the flight training stuff. 31 is the age cutoff for the Air/Army National Guard. It takes years to get through flight training even in the reserves. You don't just go to "a couple boot camps a year". I do agree that the military is the most cost-effective way to do it. But Dave is all wrong with his advice here.

Dave was too hard on the first caller with the triplets and 4 older kids. People with triplets often have to hire a nanny or get massive family/church support. They will not come up for air for 2+ years. Plus 4 older kids, absolutely unimaginable. That said, we all agree the 31K student loan should have been gone by now. But unfortunately none of us is perfect and they are in survival mode for a while. Triplet infants is a different situation than a family with 7 kids. And in Dave’s defense, after the break they did a better job revisiting to topic.

8:02 "You're stepping over hundred dollar bills to pick up pennies". Current situation: I'm Dave-ish. I'm debt free and pay for things in cash and live below my means. However, I still have credit cards for the points (i.e. cashback on gas, something that I can't overspend on because I drive to work nonetheless). I just learned that when we pay with plastic we spend more because it doesn't activate the pain centers of our brain like cash does. Is this the equivalent of me stepping over dollar bills to pick up pennies?
@Trustbutverify2651
@Trustbutverify2651 18 күн бұрын
They make a lot of blanket statements and generalizations on this show that are definitely not true for everyone. For example, I don't overspend just because I use CCs. I use my Sam's card for everything to do w/ my car - gas, tune-ups, repairs, etc. - and those are costs I would have regardless. Then I use the points from that card to get food for my church pantry. I put all the regular bills on my Visa which I pay off not at the end of the month, but as soon as a charge posts. I then turn those points into gift cards for family birthdays and Christmas. Again, those bills are not going to be any different if I used a debit card rather than a CC. But I'm very disciplined about money and would never pay more just because I'm using a CC.

First off, with the first comment of a family of seven who did you choose this life? Second off I disagree with the advice on living on beans and rice for your whole family. The solution is to raise your income and do things on the side to reserve money to fix your mistakes. Your whole family should not have to suffer for your mistakes.

57:07 at first glance, it sounded like Kyle in Des Moines got some bad advice from the Ramsey personalities two weeks ago to sell his car. But then he said he KBBd it AFTER calling in, so I doubt he or the personalities knew how far underwater he was with his car. If they had, I'd bet the personalities would have had the same advice as Dave (keep the car and pay it off). My advice to Kyle is birth control so he doesn't father any more children.

Matter of fact, just recently on his own show he saved a man’s life. You can watch that episode called No one knows I’m deeply depressed (April 2nd,2024) and watch Dr. John live in action. What is with all you people and the lack of will to post time stamps so that way anyone who wants to have any remote level of intelligent conversation with you can quickly reference the comparison conversations to which you're referring to and why you're stating the opinion you are stating? It's a 2-hour long show. It's not rocket science Post Time stamps. @@emalienoel7891 okay so extra details do help I do recall the first part of your comment and that story. Now on a more neutral standpoint, you don't truly know someone until you live with him or her. And have seen his or her daily good and bad habits to be informed enough to make a solid enough life-changing decision like whether or not you want to marry him or her and whether or not it makes sense. This is what Boomer day refuses to get that is so important this day and age. Besides the fact that there are some idiot Simpsons around and there are plenty of whores around too. It is for this reason alone that it is very important to live with a person period for a reasonable amount of time before jumping rashly into the decision of marrying them
