Nice video. Step by step is awesome, BUT I have my personal observation. You are installing the gasket for the cylinder to case and there "appears" to be gasket material remaining on the case (at 29:15 into video). Although a small amount of RTV will help seal the joint I am questioning why you didn't remove all of the remaining gasket material? Polishing that surface would make for the best surface for sealing. Also when you installed the cylinder head you opted not to check and adjust the valves. The engine is out of the unit and you are right there. Simple process and takes no time at all. You are, for all intents and purposes, probably okay not adjusting them, but for me it's peace of mind. Keep up the good work!

Congratulations on a repair that required a lot of skill and patience. It is a sign of our disposable society when dealerships wave the white flag on so many repair jobs and just dish them out the back door. @rystdinАй бұрын
Has nothing to do with that. But if a certified dealer has to spend 3-4 full work days fixing this case, at a rate of lets say 40 dollars per hour (most dealers charge almost 100 per hour) for 32 hours. Thats 1280 dollars let alone + parts cost. Plus All the time it takes up the mechanics time for making more money on different and easier tasked machines. It has nothing to do with the fact that they CANT fix it. Its just not worth a certified mechanics time... Time is money today. Replacing/swapping the engine with a used one would even be cheaper.. And even if they tore it apart they couldnt be sure the case wasnt bad, as Joe also said, he got lucky. Risk assessment is also not worth it.
@jacobmay7594Ай бұрын
@@rystdinand think how long it sat taking up space waiting on parts and time to do the fix. Dealers know when to cut their losses and move in to faster income streams. Much like you mentioned

@gregforster5913Ай бұрын
Greg from northern Michigan. Great job ! I estimate you had 25 hous of labor here. Nearby atv shops charge between 100 to 125 bucks an hour, plus shop supplies plus parts. Using the lower rate, $2500 labor plus $1000 parts plus $3000 purchase equals $6500 bucks. Used it might sell for $8000. Not much margin left for profit combined with unknown engine / transmission / rear diff issues and repair costs. Joe does great work here and shows how end users can get the job done for much less. ❤

Where do you guys get this idea that the onlyy way you can be a mechanic or know anything or critique anybody is if you yourself have a youtube channel. You do know that's not a requirement to be a mechanic. It's not the argument or the gotcha you think it is. It might be good enough for the 14 yr old fans that know nothing and think this is the height of mechanics. But its the reason they know nothing. They think youtube is gospel.
