Bro... Let me tell you a story. 6 years ago it was my goal to go to med school to become an orthopedic surgeon. Despite having a 4.1 GPA, getting A's in all the science classes, volunteer work etc. I just couldn't get accepted anywhere. It didn't make sense because I exceeded all the acceptance standards. I spent 7 years pursuing this career , $90k in student loan debt, sacrificed time with friends and family, studied when all my friends were having fun. After getting rejected numerous times. I decided to quit. I had no backup plan. But I took a year to rediscover what interest me. After that 1 year off, I started my KZbin channel. I didn't know anything about cameras or creating videos. I just learned as I went. After 3.5 years of 60+ hour weeks, no days off, no vacations grinding on KZbin. As of 2021 I'm very grateful to be able to work 20 hours per week from home making videos about guns. Spend more time with my family and earn more per year than an orthopedic surgeon. I'm not telling you this to brag, but to inspire you. Sometimes life knocks you off your path, because there's a better and more fulfilling path for you. Most people don't recognize this new path because it looks like a path to failure. If you don't get to go to Florida, then so be it. That means there's a better path for you.

Btw, I am not a gun owner but believe strongly in the 2nd amendment. I live in a pretty affluent town with very low crime. LIving elsewhere, I would likely own a gun. You may find this interesting. Aside from being an automotive engineer, I am a cyclist and was out on a high performance e-bike I built the other day and caught the wheel of very strong local cyclist who was an Electrical Engineer and we got on the subject of the cost of college. I have a niece who is a doctor and she has $300K in student loans. He told me he knows several dentists with $500-700K in student loans. The cost of college today has risen exponentially relative to the cost of inflation. Your post was spot and shows great insight. Congrats on all your success. You worked your ass off and glad you finally reaped the reward. In life, we have to listen to our inner voice and follow what we love.

When I was in the Navy, you couldn’t get orders to your next duty station until reenlistment paperwork was completed. They won’t PCS you if you’re not re-enlisted and are coming up on your separation date.

Thank you for your service, I have a lot of respect for the men and women of our armed forcea. However having to deal with large scale bureaucracies is the reason I stopped working in the financial services sector for investment banks in NYC. I couldn't take feeling like all I'm doing is filling out TPS reports (see movie Office Space). I also couldn't stand the corporate politics, and all the headaches that come with that. The only good thing was the money, for a young kid (19-28), making starting high 5, to later 6 figures, with almost no tax liability was pretty insane (11%-18% total, sometimes even 0%). I can only imagine how much worse it is working for an even larger bureaucracy like the military, especially considering it's the government. I know this is an older video, and things worked out in the end, but they could just as easily haven't. Anyway, good luck to you.

When you and Vivian look back at this life event Cameron you will both have an Ah Ha! moment…trust me. I know it’s hard to wrap your heads around it while in the moment but God has a great way of putting you where you need to be. The reasoning may not be about how your own lives might be affected…but how you or Vivian might help another person’s course zig instead of zag. I know it’s not necessarily what you guys want to hear but sometimes these unexpected life changes turn out to be the best things to ever happen to you guys. Cameron, I truly am sorry to hear the painful news. I have seen similar events happen before (23yrs retired AF). I can say, it isn't the end all, if you do not get that one back. There will be other opportunities that will present themselves to you along in your AF journey, some good, & some bad. Hang in there. If you remember one thing, remember it all happens for a reason. When you're in a position to reflect on these and other events in your life you will be able to see the whys in your life somethings had to happen as they did. Hang in there and stay positive.

Now a little jaded on that kind of environment I have a position making 3 times as much working from home and as a musician it's given me so much more opportunity to work towards things I genuinely want. There’s no way they flagged your record for separation without authorization from the service member and there’s no way you would lose a quota without authorization. I’m in the Navy and we have different procedures for this stuff so maybe the Air Force is just behind on the times but we try to give Sailors the opportunity to reenlist or decide to get out till the last possible minute. It is an admin burden but at the same time we struggle to keep people in.

I extended my enlistment to deploy - gave up one of 30 slots to a medical school I was accepted to - a month before Im scheduled to leave - they cut manning and tell me Im off the mission because of manning/funding lost my GI bill slot for school Extension for nothing Few months later I popped smoke and left my unit. Tired of the BS games they play with our lives. Never looked back. Good luck man
