@faxel2195 if it's digital the drawing will finally look good if I put enough time into it. Just not worth it unless I start a project that matters I have to force the drawings to look better atleast. You should sketch for now and go to a nother concept quickly ❤
@emptyaccount9647 Жыл бұрын
I think another important thing is to never settle for where you already are. I see so many people go like "Well, I suck at lineart. I'll just do sketches only for the rest of time." It's an ok mindset if you're only drawing for fun, but you should always be striving for more if you're doing it for self-improvement. If I notice I'm lacking in a particular thing (perspective, backgrounds, unique designs): I make it the focus of my next few study sessions and pieces.
@yuomovaeh3028 Жыл бұрын
One thing to add is that you can draw/paint "lineart" in many ways. If you don't like the traditional method you can get similar results in another way. For example you can block colors and paint the edges of the surface with a darker color for lineart effect. Different methods work for different people.

I've been drawing for about a year now, and I did develop this idea of improvent through continuous and consistent drawing. And so I did, I drew more consistently and began seeing an actual improvement in my ability. And then today, everything just fell. I wasn't drawing anything good. It wasn't even "something looked off", I was drawing actual dogwater. And now I don't know what to do. I've gone to several videos but all its done is given me the same question, including this one; "Am I actually cut out for this?" I don't want to give up art. That's the last thing I want to do. But I'm in a hole and can't get out. I don't want to give up and be free from learning art, but at the same time I feel like everything is futile... Especially seeing the progression of artists such as yourself showing how far they've improved in their first year, and yet my art sucks way more than everyone else. Those I'm in art discords with are hundreds of times more talented, and I just feel like I'm an ant trying to be in a herd of tigers... It can try, but an ant will always be an ant.
@space.133117 ай бұрын
but are you really an ant? no, you are a human, a human who makes mistakes, and has a mind to learn from mistakes, and to never give up. You might have been succesful for a year but then fell down, dont give up, keep trying again. Art is really precious, dont let that skill fade aaway completely

I've been drawing most my life and even now I'm not good. It takes a lot of time and patience to build up an important skill and lots of learning. I still struggle with this and I don't know if this is good advice but when you're in art block, just draw whatever you feel like and it might just motivate you back into drawing more and doing more studies. Hope this helps!

Thank you; I really needed to hear this. Been depressed & frustrated with my art journey as of late & have been discouraged to draw due to having the mindset that I'm wasting my time or end up scrapping my drawings because it doesn't look good. Lately been getting back into doing sketches & studies thanks to mindful advice from other artists that I watch. Hope to continue to make steady progress & not beat myself up if I don't like it; it'll get better with time ☺️

Big thanks for you for saying copying is an important skill. It gets talked down on and discouraged by a lot of artists, even some of my favourite art teachers on youtube, because they're afraid people will misunderstand and misapply what they mean by copying. It's currently the only skill I have confidence in, so by you saying it's important helped me have the courage to practice again today.

Have you guys heard the video of Pewdiepie learning how to draw? Watch closely, pay attention to around day 24 There was a sudden change of pace, he suddenly got better as if something clicked inside of his brain. This is basically breaking the ice, overcoming the hurdle of becoming an artist. I bet every artist treaded this path as well. The most important thing with becoming an artist is to never let that dreadful first phase of "Why cant I draw good?" overwhelm you and make you give up. Because eventually, after enough perseverance, it will click. I would know because the same happened to me.

I feel this. It happened to me when I first started learning programming. After keeping at it, somehow all the pieces I was confused on fell into place and it clicked. The same thing happened albeit on a smaller scale on my own art journey. I still struggle drawing hair, body, and well a lot of things lol. But after a few months I do feel that I’ve slowly learned bits and pieces here and there.

Honestly that depends on the person. Pewdiepie had a specific education, so he already knew about stuff like proportions and perspective. Even his early drawings look much better than something a person with absolutely 0 knowledge can draw at that point. I agree that a key to progress is to not give up, but if you try to learn shapes for 1-2 months and still can't draw a circle correctly, that's just devastating.

I personally have that exact issue. Traditional vs Digital, I think there can be a balance(I'm trying to work on that) between the two. Sketching/lineart/draftsmanship I think can transfer easily between the two. A simple sketchpad and even just an HB pencil (or mechanical) is good enough. Just doodle, sketch, take notes in that pad. You can then go back and redraw it digitally(furthering the muscle memory) or scan a good sketch. Alternatively get a pen or multiliner and a pencil with a good pad(like those hard cover ones) and do the work and linework almost like a field journal. And again go over to digital. Of course with Ipads(with procreate) you can negate that. But there's still something about that sketchpad that it's smaller, cheaper and just good enough to get something down fast.
