Even as a Kojima fanboy I was skeptical of this game, it just seemed like random insanity, but against all odds it coalesces into something meaningful and even enjoyable. You feel the struggle of climbing up this mountain in awful conditions with this woman on your back, you get the stakes and the emotional centre of the story, and the gameplay and mechanics all supports and inform it perfectly. It’s a masterpiece

Very fitting, since if you didn’t manage to find the Roboticist or Deadman’s home you’d keel over a few times. Jokes aside, love the pacing of the music cues. Low Roar, among the many other artists who collaborated on this project, is a new favorite.

The pacing is terrible if you apparently have the right mind to take alternate routes and/or vehicles. You have to intentionally gimp yourself to get these moments to play out.
