The freezer trick is used by librarians to prevent mold when there are too many items to dry them. You freeze what you can not dry straight away- then defrost and dry properly when you have the time and space. Its an emergency technique only and you still have to deal with drying it!
@nope12345
@nope12345 Жыл бұрын
i feel like the trick might work if left in the freezer for longer, that's basically how freeze-drying works: sublimation you can also dry clothes in the winter by hanging them out when it's freezing, it's just gonna take quite some time
@elaineelaine6418
@elaineelaine6418 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's used in countries with flood problems too (thailand, vietnam). If you come back to your flat flooded, you put your books in the freezer, and you take the time to dry them properly once the humidity problem is solved
@keelanrose5706
@keelanrose5706 Жыл бұрын
@@nope12345 Freeze drying uses a vacum though. my guess is it would take months with a normal freezer. Otherwise your food would dry out in the freezer if not in a plastic bag or such and I am sure mine never has! even after over a month.
@nope12345
@nope12345 Жыл бұрын
@@keelanrose5706 Well the food completely drying out is extremely unlikely, but freezer burns can still happen Freezer burns are nothing else than the surface of foods drying out in the freezer The vacuum part helps speed the process
@Rebecca_George
@Rebecca_George Ай бұрын
@@keelanrose5706 you NEED a vacuum for freeze drying. How it works is the vacuum lowers the pressure surrounding the item which in turn lowers the boiling point of the water letting the ice sublime. Water sublimation will not happen on any significant scale with regular atmospheric pressure.

In regards to the candle one, 5 min crafts took a grain of truth and twisted it. I learned from a restaurant that they freeze the candles so they have time to get the cake out to their customers without it dripping wax onto the cake. But it is just meant to last until they get the cake out and not for hours and hours.

Creating ice in a microwave is definitely possible and (almost) quite easy. Take your glass (or whatever) of water and put it in the microwave. Then, VERY carefully, put the microwave in your stand-up freezer. Wait for a couple of hours then open the freezer, open the microwave and there it is! Frozen water! This mainly happens when a building floods and they want to save valuable books by freezing them and repairing them one at a time.

I was just 12/13 years old.. now im a full 21 y/o adult and i can watch those old videos again and attempt to do it again as an adult who knows where to get the ingredients. Thank you mrs ann reardon.. to me, you were my childhood best friend, my childhood mama. Keep making amazing videos! ❤️❤️

My mother used to keep candles in the freezer but not to burn longer. If they were small/thin candles (like birthday candles) and in a box they could potentially melt together if stored at too hot of a temperature or just get stuck together which was annoying. That was the only reason I thought you would ever freeze a candle or rather a bunch candles.

I would've never guessed it was about fat content! I've tried to make peppermint patties once, so I poured a TON of powdered sugar into some condensed milk (+ peppermint extract) and got myself the dough I wanted. So I was watching the ice cream frosting thinking, "Surely, liquid + enough sugar = thick. Eventually". I'm a chemist, but baking is sorcery.
@nikkiofthevalley
@nikkiofthevalley 11 ай бұрын
I mean, it's less chemistry and more physics, given that thickness is a property based on the mechanics of the molecules rather than the molecules themselves. Nobody is actually thinking about that though, we just know that some ingredients have specific effects outside of flavor, such as thickening.

@@milky2046 Corporate YT has never been “fun”, but you can thank the WSJ for the way it is now. The Adpocolypse took a HUGE bite out of revenue that hasn’t been recovered (and the I agree having ads next to terrorist videos wasn’t cool, too few advertisers were willing to work WITH YT to fix the problem. Then Pewds-gate, then other issues and its honestly become...troublesome for advertisers on the platform. Especially when trees don’t keep their beefs ON the platform. I’ve been here since 2006, a few months after the site’s inception. I’ve watched it’s rise, it's growth and trends, every change and while this is a more watered-down version of what was, it is the best of what we could as for. There are issues, of course, no site this large wouldn’t have issues, but YT walks a VERY fine line between corporate responsibility and staying true to what and who they are. To make money, they need to have rules and regulations, to make money, they need viewers, so they balance what will advertisers accept with what people watch and that results in a middle of the road philosophy, go too far either direction and you hit a wall. If you want to post more extreme content, there are ways, but you still have to ”fit in” to YT’s cultural identity (which yes, we do have one, even as diverse as we are) and GOOGLE’s cultural identity, which is where a lot of people trip up.

They use special cryo- freezers to remove water from documents and old books. It’s a highly controlled very dry environment being created that would not be duplicated by a home freezer. The temperature is reduced at a constant rate usually 1° per minute and then is raised at the same rate. As stated before the freezer environment must be extremely dry for this process to work. The freezer is also pressurized at a vacuum to the outside environment.

They put genuine talent and effort into their work, but they get zero add revenue if their animation is appropriate for all audiences and doesn't contain 20 swear words, because youtube thinks animation is only for kids Meanwhile they allow 5 Minute Crafts to get away with having a monetized channel that literally has the word "KIDS" in the title

Oops, my comment just disappeared so I will try to reconstruct it! Yes, that whole COPPA thing was a fiasco. There were all these confusing, conflicting new "rules" about what constituted "children's content". It was similar to the mess they created a couple of years earlier with "depicting minors" in videos. I knew a woman who had all the comments closed on her videos, past and present, because she collected realistic baby dolls and wanted to share her hobby with others. It basically ruined the pleasure of it because she got no feedback from anybody. According to the YT algorithm, dolls were interchangeable with live children, no matter how the video was labelled. The COPPA fiasco was even more vague, confusing and even threatening to creators. People were closing their accounts and trying to salvage or move their videos due to threats their channels would be terminated. YT made an informational video that basically said, if you have any problem with any of these new rules, consult a lawyer. It just terrorized everyone and created anxiety even for those of us who do this strictly for fun, and meantime it was applied in the usual scattershot way - and now we don't even HEAR about COPPA anymore. It just sort of gets forgotten. The whole thing happened to take the heat away from YT and burden the creators with the responsibility for keeping children "safe". As for these big channels, they seem to be 100% exempt from any and all restrictions, as they are in a different class of video from the rest of us and never have to worry, even though it is very obvious there is real potential danger in children playing with molten sugar to make magic lollipops.

I have been enjoying these debunking videos, followed by the "correct" way to accomplish the desired end-result. I try to think of the "correct" way to do these in my head before you explain your method, and often we come up with the same, or similar, ideas - so clearly you must be brilliant! I just discovered your channel a couple of days ago, and will order your book. I will continue to get caught up on the older videos, and learn to make some delicious nummies.

I love this channel because Ann actually puts effort into actually testing each and everyone of these ridiculous hacks. Far more effort than 5 minute crafts or any content farm channel ever will.

I think the most infuriating thing about these "hacks" is that, like you pointed out, they make (young) people think that reality is not governed by science or logic but by pure magic

Yes, and that is by design. That channel is at least indirectly, run by the Russian government. I'm sure they use the money to fund their massive disinformation campaigns online. Sites like 5 Minute Crafts mislead western kids on purpose. Anne did a video a while back in which she and her husband researched hese types of channels and go into some detail about the people behind them. They aren't our friends...I will put it that way. I never watch those channels anand I certainly wouldn't let a child watch them either. They really are dangerous, especially for impressionable minds.

It's really no wonder the state of the world is what it is, when millions of people are so easily duped into thinking - simply through a video with smiling faces and colorful music - that putting M&M's in a waffle iron will magically create waffle batter from thin air.

When I was a kid, my mother and I tried to make melted crayon art with hair dryers. I have a feeling we were following an early rendition of a fake crafting hack, because the hair dryers made a horrible splattery mess that looked nothing like what it was supposed to. So I've learned my lesson with hair dryer melt drip hacks :(

@@Milk_Bottom sadly, I would guess because it makes them money. As long as millions of people keep watching them the rules will be only suggestions for those channels.

It's single digits in the Midwest right now. No issues making ice-cream in a microwave outside.... (That's ten or more below zero for people that hate freedom units)
