Thanks for another great video! The Prospects sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read it when it comes out. And thank you for your comments on The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches: my brain completely missed those themes when I read the book but they all clicked together as soon you mentioned the comparison people use to the House on the Cerulean Sea

So glad to hear your review of very secret society of irregular witches. I missed several of those things, so I need to take a look back at that book and my thoughts on it.

I appreciate this thoughtful response! Like I said, a lot of it was "background details," so I'm not surprised if a lot of readers couldn't grasp the broader implications on a first read.

Since I've shared this review, I've heard a lot of people say this, actually! It's surprising to me since the response to the book has been /overwhelmingly/ positive in online review spaces. But I'm glad if anything I said in my review spoke to you 📚💕

Congrats on the new job! The Prospects sounds sooo good. I already had it on my wishlist, but I want to read it even more now! I'm reading We Could Be So Good right now and I'm loving it so, so much, so I definitely want to read that short story! I really enjoyed Sangu Mandanna's Kiki Kallira books, but, yikes, I think I'll skip her adult book. I hadn't seen anyone talk about the kidnapping aspect of the story before, so I appreciate your doing so, because I do not like that *at all*. I'm excited to read A Necessary Chaos. I first noticed it because of the pretty cover, but the story sounds great, too.

Thank you so much!! 💕And I'm SO HAPPY to hear that you're loving _We Could Be So Good_ 😍 Cat Sebastian's next tradpub book _You Should Be So Lucky_ is also coming out this spring, iirc. And it's a baseball-adjacent historical romance! So honestly it could be a cute double-header (😉) to read _The Prospects_ and _You Should Be So Lucky_ close together 👀 Also I've heard good things about Mandanna's MG books as well, so this is very good to know, because I still have them on my radar!

There are definitely a lot of other places you could be putting your time and energy IMO, so I'm glad if anything I said could help you make those decisions for yourself! And thank you so much for the good luck 🥰🥰🥰 (I'll need it! lol)

Congrats on the new job!! And thank you for your review of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches- I hadn't heard about any of the colonialist aspects before now so I'll be removing it from my tbr as I am not interested in reading a book that doesn't interrogate or even acknowledge those viewpoints at all. I always appreciate your thoughtfulness and honesty when it comes to reviews like that!

Thank you so much! And thank you for the thoughtful response re: Irregular Witches! Honestly, I think another part of why it bothered me so much was because I kept hoping it would be acknowledged, especially because so much of the story is already about reconnecting with community after forcefully being cut off from it. So it wouldn't have been a leap at all for the characters to grapple with how their personal history relates to all of that? But of course, that never came. Definitely a disappointment, but it definitely gave me a lot to think about!

Congrats on the new job! I'm currently reading Hell-Bent and have a lot of the same opinions. I love me a good group, I like Turner and Dawes and I just want more of them. I do think Alex feeling like such a stranger at Lethe because she grew up poor, with substance abuse, and so far from academia as she could have are the ways in which Leigh Bardugo tries to portray that everything going on at Lether (and Yale in general) is supremely fucked up. But I also agree with you, it does not go far enough.

Thank you so much! And I agree with you re: Ninth House, at least to a point. I think Alex's "troubled background" is definitely setting herself up to be the right character to critique Yale's magical societies. /However/, there's the additional context of her being at Yale University on a full ride herself, not based on academic merit but on her ability to see Greys. Plus all the access to magic and other advantages that come with that. So that's another layer of IMMENSE privilege on her part that is also very rarely, if ever, brought into the fold. So I think that's also a big part of why I feel like the story doesn't go far enough 🤔 But like I said, the pendulum could definitely swing the other way in later books, and I'm gonna keep hoping for it, despite everything 😂

Has anyone got any good resources about the house in the cerleuan sea controversy? It’s on my TBR, and I hadn’t even heard about it until recently. I’ve done a bit of research but would appreciate any more good resources to inform my perspective?
