Love how Andrew says he loves breaking down movies but with Lost in Translation he just didn't try at all. Just straight generalized the movie into just being wow japan weird, not how it about the character's isolation and finding out about themselves through each other being fishes out of water. It not a setting piece its a character piece. just sounds like you didn't even want to try to break it down at all

Dude had to have had fatigue as it was the 4th and last movie in a marathon with other people so they were probably talking over it a lot. The movie didn’t age bad because everyone knows what Japan is like now like Andrew says, and it’s rather now aged to be a time capsule of what it was like to experience something you’ve never seen before. Each time I’ve watched this movie it gives me such strong nostalgia of a bygone era. He also completely exaggerated the “Japan weird” scenes. They were mostly completely normal reactions that absolutely would still happen today even though people have experienced it through a screen already. I love this movie so I was vehemently hating his takes on it and went to find this comment lol

Lost in Translation is a really good film wdym? "Poorly aged" how? The whole point of the film isn't "boy, Japan sure is weird" it's about disconnection and isolation, in a country where you simply don't feel like you belong there. Hell, it doesn't need to be just a country, it can be just any ol' place you feel like you're isolated and disconnected in. Also super closed-minded on the travel take with it, you do realize a lot of people still can't travel right? I know a lot of people who never left their own state.

@ yeah also it’s a fine repression of Japan as a setting, nothing of which he speaks of is the actual film. No crazy weird Japan stuff, and he talks about it stupid like “nothing surprised or shocked me about Japan” there’s like 6 levels of dumb in it. Why would it surprise you if you know Japan, and it is realistic so then you’re not surprised because you’re aware. Then he contradicts himself every other sentence and rambles. I don’t even like the move that much lol it’s kinda gay but not for any of the reasons he mentions.

12 Angry Men really was that good. I watched it in school years ago and it was one of my favorites. I don't know if anybody is gonna read this but another classic that really should not be slept on is Once Upon A Time In The West. If I recall correctly, Henry Fonda, who played the lead role in 12 Angry Men, played the lead antagonist in Once Upon A Time In The West which was unheard of and quite controversial since Fonda was known to always be cast as the hero or good guy in anything he did. Once Upon A Time will probably stick with you. The soundtrack is one of the most original and well made that I can think of, on top of that.

11:02 wait are you saying Japan isnt weird? Lmao its cool but its obviously weird. The strange t.v. shows alone is proof enough. Saying i have been to Japan its not weird doesnt prove anything lmao. And depending on where you are from and where you go, it would be very weird to you. Idk the movie, but i dont like your argument lol. Claiming Japan isnt weird to an American and the fact you have been there is very disingenuous and a blatant disregard of yourself. All the vending machines arent weird? The cat Island isnt weird? Shit things in America are weird, and i live in America. I can go over to another town or city and it will be drastically different. People behave differently and do "weird" things. Weird is things that aren't normal to you. They just raised the age of consent in Japan to 16 i do believe, how is that not weird?

Dude, get a hobby, you're commenting on every video hating on Andrew. Imagine letting a single guy take up this much space rent-free in your head, pretty pathetic

My movie rec is: V/H/S Beyond. I won't spoil anything, but I'll tell you it starts with cops mag dumping on a house full of zombies like Resident Evil or that scene in Paranormal Activity 5 when the vatos show up and start blasting the witches with shotguns and stuff. If you have AMC+ or want to watch it free, just do a 7 day AMC trial like I did.
