Hello Laura! I'm a new subscriber. You have motivated me to finish my decluttering task once & for all. I like the baskets/boxes labeled and placing things in them. Then immediately putting things away as they get full. That feels like so much progress is being made in a short time!

When planning to donate, find out what things they DO NOT want. Otherwise, the items get thrown away and everybody LOSES.

Found out from personal experience they vehemently DO NOT want any type of medical stuff such as hospital beds, walkers, crutches, bedside commodes etc. They said its because they get overloaded with such donations and they dont sell since most people get those items thru their insurance, then donate the items when they are thru with them.

Great information. As someone who has a lot of Hoarders around. I think you need to set up some criteria. I was trying to help my mother declutter,. I just wanted to shoot myself. Like old Christmas cards. To me trash, to her the school needs them for an art project. She has been saving them for years. Don't get me started about the donation site. I really don't care if they are for profit. They provider jobs, they recycle by selling goods. And several provide electricity disposal. I would also say. If you have electricity or small appliances to donate and you have the remote or instructions. Include them. It makes it easier for them to resell.

Better Homes & Gardens (BHG) brand is the one i bought a few years ago. It has 5 cubicals across & down, making 25 all together. I paid around $125 back then. Tip .. these things are beasts weighing a ton. Mine didnt come with a back panel for support, only a "earthquake strap" to connect it to the wall. If i ever take off that strap and try to move the shelves they are going to collapse like a stack of cards. Only way it can be moved will be to screw a plywood board or two to the front of it, which unfortunately will add more weight to it, then at new location remove the boards and possibly attach to the back of it. Luann plywood is thin but strong enough to support the shelves. Assembling it drove me crazy because none of the cubes would stay together & kept falling apart. I finally had to hire two men to assemble it, who also had a hard time with it. After several years of having this beast in my room i've learned it would be better to buy 2 or 3 smaller units, or what i'm going to do is remove mine and replace it with the silvery metal shelves with 5 shelves .. they are a breeze to assemble, sturdy, affordable, and very lightweight so they are easy to move around. My BHG shelves being so darn heavy cannot be moved when i need to re-organize my room. Just giving you the pro's & con's. Hope it helps.
