It wasn't just that Leandros reported him to the Inquisition. The thing is, the Chapters have internal processes for dealing with potential corruption. It's one of the main tasks of the Chaplains. What makes Leandros's actions so infuriating is that he spent the whole time talking about the Codex Astartes and how it should be followed and then he completely ignored it when the time came. The "wrath" that Calgar spoke up was likely a dressing down of Leandros that was probably felt all the way to the Eye of Terror. @@Nyah420 I would wager that the process of becoming a chaplain is somewhat painful and involves a lot of drilling chapter doctrine into the initiate's head. Also, being a chaplain kind of removes you from the command structure and relegates you to a support role, though there are exceptions. So, Calgar essentially said, "You're an idiot, and now you pay for it. You will never achieve the glory your brothers will and you will learn the Codex Astartes PERFECTLY AND IN ITS ENTIRETY so that you don't mess up again."

Ironically being a Chaplain really suits Leandros. He's basically the Asmodai of the Ultramarines. Extremely loyal and inspiring with almost religious zeal and suspicious of corruption and Traitors. Oh Asmodai is the Chaplain of the Dark Angels, oh He's also an Interrogator Chaplain who specialises in torture.

I would argue that being a Chaplain doesn't suit him at all because he himself violated the Codex Astartes when he took his concerns about Titus to the Inquisition rather than to the Ultramarines' Chaplains. Though I wouldn't be shocked if he became a Chaplain because he has a guilty conscience - Titus' last words to him clearly stung and may have given him some doubt about if he did the right thing, and Calgar's fury at Titus being taken afterwards probably didn't help with the feeling that he betrayed his brothers. If that's the case, him continuing to suspect Titus throughout SM2 might be doubling down in the hopes of being vindicated, rather than accepting that he was wrong and dealing with the guilt.

I’ve not been able to confirm this but I’ve been told that this same Chaplain was in a Dawn of War game and kicked major ass and some people who mentioned it were throughly disappointed when the Ultramarine Chaplain was revealed to be Leandros in this game.

@@Broomer52 There's Varnus in Dawn of War: Winter Assault who *did* kick ass, and he was ostensibly 2nd Company, but we know nothing about what happened to him after that campaign. Maybe he died and was replaced. Maybe he transferred to a different company, or joined one of the Primaris successor chapters to provide guidance. Regardless, it's been a long time since then in both lore and the real world, plus Varnus wouldn't be so sus of Titus because he soloed a Bloodthirster in that game.

You would think that Titus being the the Captain of 2nd Company he would have a Chaplain with his company when on campaign. Plus this was before Guilliman’s return and Ultramarines were quite strict about the Codex around that time and considering Titus viewing the Codex as guide I'm surprised he never got in trouble by his Chaplain. Also I'm surprised people don't hate the Black Templars for helping the Inquisitor arrest Titus as well.

There are quite a few callbacks to the first game, for example. The Thunderhawk you're in at some parts of the game, the "Lance of Jove" is the same Thunderhawk you use in SM1. Meaning either the pilot has survived for 200 years and passed the Rubicon Primaris, or the gunship hasn't been completely destroyed in the 2 centuries between the games.

Astartes wargear and vehicles can endure for centuries or even millennia, given how incredibly tough and durable most of it is... but then, Thunderhawks in particular seem to have notoriously bad luck (a crash does make for a convenient and dramatic plot device, after all).

The interesting thing about Leandros being a Chaplain: It’s speculated (if not outright confirmed) that him going through Chaplain training was his punishment for the ending events of SM1. Leandros was NOT supposed to go straight to the Inquisition to report suspicions of corruption from Titus, and part of Calgar’s “fierce wrath” might’ve included making Leandros go through the absolutely *grueling* training to become Chaplain. It’s a bit of a backhanded promotion in a few ways. 1) Leandros being Chaplain does give him more power, so on the surface to everyone else it looks like he got a promotion and nothing weird is happening. 2) That power comes with WAY more oversight from the Chapter Master, who likely was PISSED at him for getting Titus in trouble for really no valid reason. And that means Calgar can keep a much closer eye on Leandros to make sure he doesn’t step out of line again. 3) It punishes Leandros by putting him through the worst training he’ll likely ever experience just to get what he wants. The development runs parallel to Titus’ time in the Deathwatch in theme when you think about it that way. While Titus is sent off to die fighting as a black shield, coming out the end proving himself as a loyal and capable Ultramarine and regaining his chapter’s trust, Leandros gets put through hell for perpetrating the ACTUAL insubordination from the first game. Titus comes out of it a better man. Leandros comes out of it being taught a hard lesson.

I'd like to think that wasn't out of necessity, as why would a Firstborn Chaplain _need_ to be Primaris? If it was enough of a deal that Calgar ordered it done to Titus hoping it would save him... What if it was just part of Calgar's great wrath? I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure it was still super risky for Firstborns in the time between the two games. What if... That's the second time now he has held concentrated Warp energy in his hands and emerged unscathed by it. Perhaps the Emperor wasn't ready for Titus to join him at that moment? Perhaps Titus literally had the touch of the Emperor, explaining how he is literally incorruptable like the Grey Knights. Sure, it could be that his spirit and faith in the Emperor is so strong, that it's impossible for Chaos to weave its way into his soul, but Titus seems to have some sort of "touch" that other marines don't have, hence why his "ability" is "righteous fury" (maybe thats just for the game but its still a point to make), is there any other regular space marine who has been spoken to directly by the Emperor? I know Dante basically spoke with Sanguinius, but not the Emperor. I think Titus yet has a bigger role to play, perhaps in closing the rift alongside Cawl and Guilliman with the aid of the Necron and Eldar.

The voice line at the end is the Emperor. There are afew characters in 40k lore that have been helped by the Emperor from the warp. Guilliman is one of them. It also makes sense because it might be how Titus can withstand soo much warp energy without being turned. So yeah, i think the Big E has some plans for Titus yet.

Haven't watched this video yet, but heads up on December 10th on Amazon Prime is an animated continuation of the game. It's a mini series called Secret Level, that will have 2 episodes a day, for 15 video games in total... 1 episode per game from my understanding. The Space Marine 2 episode is confirmed to star Lt Titus and is the mission talked about at the games conclusion. There is a trailer for Secret Level that has a few clips for Space Marine 2's "Secret Level". It does have Titus with the helmet he gets at the end of the game.

I would mention the genres. Dawn of War I and II are RTS (and II has some RPG elements), Darktide is a horde shooter a la Left 4 Dead, Boltgun is a "boomer shooter" a la oldschool Doom, Shootas Blood & Teef is a side-scrolling shooter (like Contra), and Rogue Trader is a good old-fashioned turnbased RPG. On top of that, there's also Mechanicus (an XCOM-style squad strategy game). Chaos Gate: Daemonhunter is also supposed to be a 40k game in that genre but I haven't played it, personally, so I can't attest to its quality. Also, avoid Dawn of War III. It exists, but it shouldn't. The first two games (especially the expansions for I and basically everything II) are really good but III is so absurdly bad in comparison that I got it for free and I still felt ripped off.

Only in Death Does Duty End! (famous WH40K saying) - (Calgar: "Rise, Titus. Your duty is not yet done.") The ending is brilliant. Calgar's words to Titus were priceless. His dedication to the cause will not be broken by any evil. I'm glad you decided to play SP1 before finishing SP2. The experience was 40K x better because of that decision. Your service in Space Marine 2 is complete, brother! But your duty is not yet done. For the Emperor! P.S. Chaplains are known for their strictness, so I didn't suspect that Chaplain was Leandros. I don't know what the source is but from what I've heard Titus was continuously tortured by the Inquisitor that arrested him at the end of SM1 because he wouldn't admit he was a traitor (which he wasn't). He managed to get out and join the Deathwatch after that because ironically the Inquisitor was executed for falling to Chaos by a daemon.

Huge congrats! o7 Oh, not sure if this was mentioned before, but another 40k game you might be interested in that takes place between SM1 and 2 is called Boltgun. It's basically an oldschool DOOM game in 40k, and you play as an Ultramarine (yet again) called Malum Caedo (which also more or less happens to mean 'I kill evil') and he performs feats on the level of a Primarch during your time playing as him, like killing multiple Greater Daemons. Edit: Ah, I see Boltgun was already mentioned before!

earlyer this year in the run-up to the game's release games workshop in their white dwarf magazine had a short lore article about titus coving events before the 1st game and everything upto the start of SM2. in reguards to the inquistor that took him at the end of the first game he was a inquisitor that allready disliked space marines and looked for any reason to take them for his experements. he long found titus not corrupted but kept torchering him (and other marines) while ignoreing communications from anyone investigateing the missing marines (who are kept in stasis when not being experemented on). the inquisitor would later be killed by the grey knights (a special group of anti-deamon marines) after getting demonicly possesed. a inquisitor sent to clean up after that one found the stasts stored marines and started the process of finding their homes if records could be found, titus however had no logs and he himself was feeling like he still had done something wrong chose to join the deathwatch (special marine force made up of members from allmost every chapter on rotation) as a black shield (a memeber who removes their original chapter colours cos of believed discrase) and was just looking for a place to die with honour and hope he got redemption in death.

Straight away, I have to confess I made a mistake. I also thought that they were demons but. Those bird things with swords and shields aren't demons. These *Tzangorz* are Warp mutated Abhuman, "Beastmen" or also known as the "Beastmen of Tzeentch". To chaos Lords I could imagine that these Tzangorz are very useful because as beings that naturally evolved in the material they should continue to exist without the warp. I'm probably not doing this lore justice without explaining the term *Abhuman* first.

I wish we had gotten to see Roboute Guilleman instead of Calgar but w/e lol xD It also gives a reason for the many MORE people who have played Space Marine 2 and not Space Marine 1 ( a LOT ) can go and revisit it. Another detail that i like is the dates/times - all the events in this game happened in just over a week (that last cutscene was Day 8, 3am). This is what space marines do 24x7. For hundreds of years. It's just a typical week for them, saving a system from both a tyranid and chaos incursion.

Yes, and it's a nice touch that it's staring you dead in the face the entire time and you just won't notice it because you're either too focused on the subtitles or the Chaplains helmet to see the big 'OS' on his pauldron, and yet everyone and their grandmother saw the twist coming a mile away when they heard his voice and mannerisms, even through the voice modulation of the helmet, and the realization that they wouldn't have this Chaplain be an ongoing character in the game without a name, especially when even those poor schmucks from the Deathwatch not only got names and custom armor, but even some hints of character and backstory.

Still, it does look like 'R O S' until he shifts to the left and shows off the pauldron in its entirety, so the devs might have chosen that word and font specifically for a sight gag. Hey - if you are looking for more good 40k games: Darktide: Is pretty much the exact game play as space marine 2- except you play as normal humans, and it got not really a story, its all pve coop kill nurgle Zombies, but it got a couple Trailers you could check out! Rogue Trader: Its a CRPG from Owlcat, you play as a "Rogue Trader" - the one type of person even an Inquisitor cannot really order around - so its an RPG where you play as a super rich noble- exploring space to make money. You wanna sell Planets to Eldar? Start a Chaos Cult? Commit Tech Heresy by installing a Chaos Corrupted Dark Age AI on a C'than Shard? Or maybe you are a totally normal Imperial Citizen that does not commit before mentioned heresy?! Completly up to you!

For what happened to Titus during his time with the Inquisition between games, he was essentially tortured by an inquisitor for many many years until it was eventually revealed that inquisitor was in fact a heretic. Then they put Titus into Deathwatch as a sort of re-evaluation/continued penance. As far as other games to play to immerse yourself in the world my favorite is Rogue Trader which is sorta like warhammer’s version of D&D. If you don’t mind reading then I think it’s a fantastic experience especially looking at the world from a non Space Marine centric view but if reading is a bit of a deal breaker then it’s probably not the best. I always say give it a chance cause it really is super good but I also understand if that’s a hurdle to get over/deal breaker

With Titus, the entire reason he wasn't back with the Ultramarines is that no one informed the Ultramarines that Titus was found, stashed in stasis inside of Thrax's torture chambers. Looking at other things, Titus and Calgar are from around the same time when they'd have become Ultramarines in the first place and would have known each other anyway

Before we get started, DeeBee, I've got a suggestion for you: if you ever decide to take the final step into this hobby and buy some minis, see if you can find an actual GW store or a third-party store that does modeling/painting tutorials and film your first modeling/painting experience for us. 10:15 - I was hoping you'd get to fight a Changer of Ways. 10:49 - ...or not... 25:13 - I FETHIN' KNEW IT!!!!!!!! 29:19 - What happened between 1 and 2: Inquisitor Thrax (who was deeply distrustful of ALL Space Marines) kept Titus in stasis for nearly 100 years, bringing him out every so often to test him for corruption (and failing to find any every single time). Calgar kept trying to get Titus back for all that time. Eventually, irony of ironies, Thrax fell when he ended up possessed by a demon. While the Ordo Malus was cleaning up Thrax's mess, they found the dozen or so Marines Thrax had been keeping on ice. They cleared them of any sign of taint and returned them to their chapters, but Titus, unaware of Calgar's efforts, believed he was still considered a stain on the chapter's honor, and so he decided to join the Deathwatch as a Blackshield so that he could still serve without dishonoring his chapter. After several decades of that was where we came in. If you ever decided to get Warhammer+, Loremaster has an episode dedicated to Titus' history.

This is why i don't understand people who say Titus never shows emotion. He's not overt about it but there is a slight change in him after hearing all that from Calgar. You can see that all the weight of unearned shame and guilt finally leaves the man as the guy he looks up to tells him not only is he innocent. Not only did he never lose faith in him. NOT ONLY is he a greater man than his captors/torturers. But that he is among the best of all of them and someone everyone should look up to.

I mean... In the context of the lore it makes perfect sense Leandros was always a strickler for the rules, how marines should be, and he did not hesitate to report his superiors of his suspicions. The Chaplains job in a chapter is to keep the marines in check, make sure they do what they are supposed to and dont fall into the greedy hands of chaos.

Only problem is how he reported it doesn't follow the codex. He is a bit hypocritical. Space marines are supposed to report suspicion to there Chaplin, he skipped that step and went straight to the inquisition. XD that's why it's suspected he's a Chaplin now more as a punishment then a reward.

What happen to Titus betwene games is, after painful reasearch Titus was found free of corruption but kept in stasis as Inquisitor Thrax was one of those who have hate bonner for Space Marines. Few years late Thrax was executed by Grey Knights for been possesed by a deamon (happens a lot to Radical Inquisitors), and every Astartes in stasis was released after their own check if they are not corrupted. Sadly Knights of Titan don't inform Titus about those angry latters from Calgar to Thrax to release him, so Titus thinking Ultrasmurfs turn on him as someone to be shamed about, our favorite blueberry join Deathwatch as Black Shield. Few years in preason for innosence ("Innosence Proves Nothing" - Motto of God-Emperor's moast Holy Inquisition), many more as Black Shield in Deathwatch, and then SM2.

Right off the bat, Titus like Primarch *Rogal Dorn* and Leadros is Primarch *Raboute Guilimen* near the end of the Horus Herasy. The Imperiam of Man survives despite it's own bureaucracy or Zeolotry.

Sorry for being late but I'm worried that neither Bricky nor anybody else explained this: in 40k timeline there are no space marine legions. The Second Founding is the event that occurred right after the end of the Horus Heresy, in the early 31st Millennium. This Founding involved the division of the existing Loyalist Space Marine Legions into the far smaller, 1,000-man autonomous Chapters of the Space Marines as decreed by the new Codex Astartes, written by the Ultramarines' primarch, Roboute Guilliman. The remaining Loyalist Space Marine Legions were divided into smaller Successor Chapters -- one Chapter maintained their parent Legion's original name, badge and colours (like the Ultramarines chapter from Ultramarines legion), while the remaining Chapters took new names and heraldry (like Black Templars chapter from Imperial Fists legion). Some legions that were still numerous in numbers (like the Ultramarines legion) after the exhausting Horus Heresy campaign were split into dozens of new chapters , while others like Raven Guard birthed only a few. Since then all Space Marine chapters are autonomous in terms of their resources and recruitment. There were also later "foundings" of new chapters created by splitting from the existing ones or using the gene seeds stash on Terra to form completely new ones. Some chapters are not entirely codex compliant so they are not strictly following the directives from Codex Astartes in terms of tactics, and sometimes even in terms of numbers and structure as well (like Space Wolves and Black Templars) but the Inquisition tries to avert their eyes for those two to avoid another civil war.

all training should be borderline torture. hell even space marine training is borderline torture. you're taken as a Kid and organs are surgically stuffed into you over a period of years, while being indoctrinated into chapter and space marine culture. as much as people won't admit it, but Leandros basically got a promotion. he's doing what he does best. Chaplains are there to instill order and discipline among the space marines, and to make sure they keep their to their chapter morals and traditions, to ensure the Morale of the chapter stays well. Chaplains are the well respected in their chapters, because without them, the chapter could fall apart at any second. they're basically the HR, Therapist, mentor, and spiritual guide to all space marines in their company all in one.

Leandros being the Chaplain makes all the sense in the world. This is Warhammer 40K, forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim future there is only war. Leandros was *right* in this setting. His suspicion of Titus didn't come from him, it came from the Codex Astartes, it came from the systems that rule over the whole of Mankind in the most brutal and bloody regime imaginable. Leandros is the ideal Space Marine in the eyes of the Imperium. Where the great drama comes in is seeing that brutality conflict with the very human need for friendship and loyalty. Seeing it rewarded or punished, honored or betrayed.

All of your melee weapons have combos, just tap into the menu in-game and you can see what they are, youve had heavy attacks this entire time that you can weave between your light attacks.

Hope you enjoy the Operations! Its where the meat of the game is found. SADLY though, the Assault class (the class with the jump pack), is kiiiinda broken in a bad way, the jump pack is incredibly finicky to use because the levels werent properly designed around the use of a jump pack. Also, even on MINIMAL difficulty, the missions wont be like the single player where you can just flail around and not be at risk of death, the Operations are ALWAYS putting you at risk of death, you want to be aggressive, since you get health and armour back for dealing damage and executing enemies when you yourself have sustained damage, you can also parry ANY melee attack an enemy does to you, you dont need to wait for the blue flash to occur to do a parry, but you DO need to dodge for the other flash attacks. Make sure to make use of your pistol, its not just a sidearm to use when your primary is out of ammo, ONE shot to the head of a minoris with a pistol will end them, HAVE FUN!

Weel its not confirmed but by this point most people are prety sure the VOICE that said "Rise Son of Guilliman" is the Emperor ... and subsequently speculate that Titus may be an imperial saint or at least on his way to become one which would explain his resistance to the warp. That said this is 40K you can never be to sure where the voices in your head come from ... :D So there is always a possibility someone is playing with Titus and it was not the Emperor If you want to play more 40k with coop Rogue Trades is a good choice .. its a CRPG where you have the option for up to 6 player coop

As I said before, you should definitely try Boltgun since it takes place in the middle of SM 1 and SM 2, and explains how they got the artifact. It does have a very Doom-like boomer shooter feel to it, so I don't know if you might like it.
